Claims
- 1. A filter construction comprising:
- (a) a first, most upstream, region of depth media having a percent solidity of no greater than about 2% and being constructed and arranged to remove at least about 60% by weight of particulates within the size range of about 1 microns to about 10 microns, carried by an airstream which passes into said filter construction during use;
- (b) a second region of depth media positioned downstream from said first region of depth media; said second region of depth media being constructed and arranged to entrap at least 60%, by weight, of any particulates within a size range of about 1 micron to about 10 micron, which pass through the first region of depth media during use; and,
- (c) an oiled pleated paper filter positioned downstream of said second region of depth media.
- 2. A filter construction according to claim 11 including a third region of depth media; said third region of depth media being positioned downstream from said oiled pleated paper filter.
- 3. A filter construction according to claim 1 wherein said first region of depth media occupies less than 70% of a total volume of depth media within said construction which is located upstream from said oiled, pleated paper filter.
- 4. A filter construction according to claim 1 wherein said second region of depth media has a percent solidity greater than a percent solidity of said first region of depth media.
- 5. A filter construction according to claim 1 wherein:
- (a) said first region of depth media comprises material having an average fiber size within a range of about 16 to 22 microns; and,
- (b) said second region of depth media comprises material having an average fiber size of less than about 18 microns.
- 6. A filter construction according to claim 1 wherein said first region of depth media comprises fibers having an average fiber size of between about 16 and 22 microns.
- 7. A filter construction according to claim 1 wherein said second region of depth media comprises fibers having an average diameter of less than about 18 microns.
- 8. A filter construction according to claim 1 wherein said first region of depth media comprises fibers having an average fiber size of between about 18 and 20 microns.
- 9. A filter construction according to claim 1 wherein:
- (a) each of said first and second regions-of depth media ia cylindrically shaped; and
- (b) said oiled pleated paper filter is cylindrically shaped.
- 10. A filter construction according to claim 9 wherein said first region of depth media occupies less than 70% of a total volume of depth media within said construction which is located upstream from said oiled pleated paper filter.
- 11. A filter construction comprising:
- (a) a first region of depth media constructed and arranged to remove at least about 60%, by weight, of particulates within a size range of about 1 micrometer to about 10 micrometers which are carried by an airstream that passes into said filter construction, during use;
- (b) a second region of depth media positioned downstream from said first region of depth media; said second region of depth media being constructed and arranged to entrap at least 60%, by weight, of any particulates within a size range of about 1 micron to about 10 microns, which pass through the first region of depth media during use; and,
- (c) an oiled pleated paper filter positioned downstream of said second region of depth media.
- 12. A filter construction according to claim 11 wherein:
- (a) said first region of depth media occupies less than 70% of a total volume of depth media within said construction which is located upstream of said oiled pleated paper filter; and,
- (b) said second region of depth media has a percent solidity greater than a percent solidity of said first region of depth media.
- 13. A filter construction according to claim 12 wherein:
- (a) said first region of depth media comprises material having an average fiber size within a range of about 16 to 22 microns; and,
- (b) said second region of depth media comprises material having an average fiber size of less than about 18 microns.
- 14. A filter construction according to claim 13 including a third region of depth media; said third region of depth media being positioned downstream from said oiled pleated paper filter.
- 15. A filter construction according to claim 11 wherein:
- (a) said first region of depth media comprises material having an average fiber size within a range of about 16 to 22 microns; and,
- (b) said second region of depth media comprises material having an average fiber size of less than about 18 microns.
- 16. A filter construction according to claim 15 including a third region of depth media; said third region of depth media being positioned downstream from said oiled pleated paper filter.
