Claims
- 1. A filtration system for filtering body fluids comprising:
- a collecting chamber having a bottom portion and an outlet;
- a filter body, said filter body having a top part and bottom part, said top part being connected to said valve and said bottom part being adjacent to said bottom portion;
- a valve positioned in fluid flow communication with said outlet, said valve permitting reflux of fluid from said outlet back into said collection chamber,
- wherein said valve comprises a top side and a bottom side and further includes a screen attached to said top side, whereby portions of said screen lift up and permit fluid flow therethrough in response to said reflux action.
- 2. The filtration system according to claim 1, wherein said filter body includes a cap at said top part, said cap having said valve attached thereto.
- 3. The filtration system according to claim 1, wherein said collection chamber further includes a top portion, said outlet being located at said top portion.
- 4. The filtration system according to claim 3, wherein a drop tube is interposed between, and in fluid flow communication with, said outlet and said filter body, said drop tube having a proximal end and a distal end, said proximal end being attached to said outlet and said distal end having an opening and being disposed inside said filter body.
- 5. The filtration system according to claim 1, wherein tubing is connected to the outside portion of said outlet, said tubing having a port, said port being in fluid flow communication with said tubing.
- 6. The filtration system according to claim 5, wherein a fluid pathway comprises a conduit therethrough inside said tubing and said drop tube.
- 7. The filtration system according to claim 6, wherein said reflux action clears said fluid pathway of blood clots and air by flushing the blood clots and air back into said collection chamber.
- 8. The filtration system according to claim 7, wherein said valve is a one way valve.
- 9. The filtration system according to claim 5, wherein said port is a spike port, said port being adapted to receive a flushing means for initiating said reflux action by a user.
- 10. The filtration system according to claim 9, wherein said flushing means is a syringe.
- 11. The filtration system according to claim 4, wherein said top side of the valve comprises an opening therethrough for receiving said proximal end of said drop tube.
- 12. The filtration system according to claim 11, wherein said valve in a first position permits an influx of fluid from inside said collection chamber into said drop tube, while in a second position, said valve permits the reflux of said fluid from said drop tube into said collection chamber.
- 13. The valve mechanism in combination with a filter body for clearing a fluid pathway of a drainage device of fluids, the combination being disposed inside a collection chamber, the collection chamber having a top portion and bottom portion, said top portion including an outlet, said combination comprising:
- a filter body having a top member, bottom member and interior portion, said top member being attached to said bottom side of said valve, said bottom member being adjacent to said bottom portion of said collection chamber;
- a valve positioned in fluid flow communication with said outlet, said valve permitting reflux of fluid from the outlet into the collection chamber; and
- wherein said valve comprises a top side and a bottom side and further includes a screen attached to said top side, whereby portions of said screen lift up and permit fluid flow therethrough in response to said reflux action.
- 14. The combination according to claim 13, wherein said valve includes an opening therethrough.
- 15. The combination according to claim 14, wherein said valve further includes a drop tube having a proximal end and a distal end, said drop tube being interposed between, and in fluid flow communication with, said outlet and said valve, said distal end being connected to said outlet, said proximal end being inserted through said opening and disposed inside said interior portion of said filter body.
- 16. The combination according to claim 13, wherein an outside portion of the outlet has a tubing attached thereto, said tubing having a conduit therethrough.
- 17. The combination according to claim 16, wherein a port is attached to said tubing, said port being in fluid flow communication with said conduit,
- whereby a user initiates a reflux action using said port to flush fluid back into the collection chamber through said valve.
