- 2. A rudder assembly according to claim 1 wherein said hydraulic actuating means comprise a pair of fin actuating hydraulic jacks each including a hydraulic cylinder and a piston operably movable therein, said pistons being connected to said fin member to effect pivotable motion thereof relative to said main rudder member, a pair of fin drive hydraulic jacks connected with said steering gear of said marine craft to be operable in response thereto, said fin drive hydraulic jacks each including a hydraulic cylinder hydraulically connected to one of said cylinders of said fin actuating hydraulic jacks to control hydraulic operation thereof, and a piston operatively movable with each of said cylinders, cantilever means joined with said main rudder member operably interconnecting said steering gear with said pistons of said fin drive hydraulic jacks, and equalizing valve means connected between said fin actuating hydraulic jacks and said fin drive hydraulic jacks, said return tanks and said bias pressure tanks of said fin retard arrangement being connected at a point between the cylinders of said fin actuating hydraulic jacks and the cylinders of said fin drive hydraulic jacks.
- 3. A rudder assembly according to claim 2 wherein said cylinders of said fin actuating hydraulic jacks and said cylinders of said fin drive hydraulic jacks are, respectively, interconnected by a first line and a second line, wherein said equalizing valve means is connected between said first and said second lines thereacross, wherein each of said return tanks and said bias pressure tanks of said fin retard arrangement are jointly connected, respectively, to said first and said second lines, and wherein said equalizing valve means is connected between said first and second lines at points located between the connection of said return tanks and said bias pressure tanks and the cylinders of said fin actuating hydraulic jacks.
- 4. A rudder assembly according to claim 3 wherein said equalizing valve means is arranged to be controlled by the position of said main rudder member in such a manner that said equalizing valve means will be opened with a small range of angles at each side of a zero position of said main rudder member but is otherwise closed thereby to effect automatic correction of the zero position of said fin member, with a feed line being provided for replacing spilled leakage oil.
- 5. An assembly according to claim 4 wherein said fin retard arrangement includes a pair of bias pressure tanks interconnected with each other with a bias pressure gas line being connected to a line which connects said two bias pressure tanks with each other, said fin retard arrangement also including a pair of return tanks interconnected with each other with a return pressure gas line being connected into the line which interconnects said return tanks.
- 6. A rudder assembly according to claim 3 further including an oil replacement line leading into the connecting line adjoining said equalizing valve means between said first and second lines.
- 7. A rudder assembly according to claim 2 wherein said cylinders of said fin drive hydraulic jacks are interconnected by a shut-off line including therein shut-off valve means which may be opened when flow communication between the cylinders of said fin actuating hydraulic jacks and the cylinders of said fin drive hydraulic jacks is closed, said shut-off valve means when opened with said fin member rigidly interlocked with said rudder member enabling automatic correction of the zero position of said fin member by operation of said equalizing valve means.
- 8. A rudder assembly for marine craft comprising: a main rudder member pivotally coupled to said marine craft for deflection relative thereto; a fin member pivotally coupled to said main rudder member for deflection relative thereto; and an actuating and control system comprising first control means operative to effect deflection of said main rudder member relative to said marine craft and second control means operative to effect deflection of said fin member relative to said main rudder member; said first control means being capable of effecting deflection of said main rudder member relative to said marine craft independently of said second control means; said second control means being effective to effect deflection of said fin member relative to said main rudder member independently of said first control means; said rudder assembly including an independent steering gear mechanism and cut-off valve means, said fin member being constructed in such a manner that by actuation of said cut-off valve means said fin member can be operatively positioned independently of said main rudder member by being separately operated by said independent steering gear mechanism.
- 9. A rudder assembly for marine craft comprising: a main rudder member pivotally coupled to said marine craft for deflection relative thereto; a fin member pivotally coupled to said main rudder member for deflection relative thereto; an actuating and control system comprising first control means operative to effect deflection of said main rudder member relative to said marine craft and second control means operative to effect deflection of said fin member relative to said main rudder member; said first control means being capable of effecting deflection of said main rudder member relative to said marine craft independently of said second control means; said second control means being effective to effect deflection of said fin member relative to said main rudder member independently of said first control means; and an independent steering gear mechanism and cut-off valve means, said fin member being constructed in such a manner that by actuation of said cut-off valve means said fin member can be operatively positioned independently of said main rudder member by being separately operated by said independent steering gear mechanism.
