Claims
- 1. A finisher to stack sheets exiting a printer comprising:
a tray having a top surface positioned to receive printed, sheets on said top surface, a frictional member movable away from said top surface to allow printed sheets to move on to said top surface and movable over said top surface to make frictional contact with a sheet on said top surface, a first reference barrier, a second reference barrier positioned generally perpendicular to said first reference barrier, said frictional member when in said frictional contact being movable toward at least one of said first reference barrier and said second reference barrier, said movable member when in said frictional contact being less than about two inches from said at least one reference barrier, and said frictional contact being in a degree to normally not buckle said received printed sheets.
- 2. The finisher as in claim 1 also comprising printed sheet exit apparatus to convey said print sheet over said tray, wherein said printed sheets drop on said top surface by gravity.
- 3. The finisher as in claim 1 also comprising a binding device and a curl control device located to reduce curl at said binding device.
- 4. The finisher as in claim 2 also comprising a binding device a curl control device located to reduce curl at said binding device.
- 5. The finisher as in claim 3 also comprising a positive clamp to clamp said sheet after said sheet has moved against said first reference barrier and said second reference barrier.
- 6. The finisher as in claim 4 also comprising a positive clamp to clamp said sheet after said sheet has moved against said first reference barrier and said second reference barrier.
- 7. The finisher as in claim 1 wherein said movable member when in contact in said frictional contact is less than two inches from said at least one reference barrier.
- 8. The finisher as in claim 2 wherein said movable member when in contact in said frictional contact is less than two inches from said at least one reference barrier.
- 9. The finisher as in claim 3 wherein said movable member when in contact in said frictional contact is less than two inches from said at least one reference barrier.
- 10. The finisher as in claim 4 wherein said movable member when in contact in said frictional contact is less than two inches from said at least one reference barrier.
- 11. The finisher as in claim 5 wherein said movable member when in contact in said frictional contact is less than two inches from said at least one reference barrier.
- 12. The finisher as in claim 6 wherein said movable member when in contact in said frictional contact is less than two inches from said at least one reference barrier.
- 13. The finisher as in claim 1 wherein said friction member comprises a first finger and a second finger, said first finger being movable toward said first reference barrier and said second finger being movable toward said second reference barrier, each said first finger being raised out of significant frictional contact with a sheet on said top surface when said second finger is moved toward said second reference barrier, and said second finger being raised out of significant frictional contact with a sheet on said top surface when said first finger is moved toward said first reference barrier.
- 14. The finisher as in claim 2 wherein said friction member comprises a first finger and a second finger, said first finger being movable toward said first reference barrier and said second finger being movable toward said second reference barrier, each said first finger being raised out of significant frictional contact with a sheet on said top surface when said second finger is moved toward said second reference barrier, and said second finger being raised out of significant frictional contact with a sheet on said top surface when said first finger is moved toward said first reference barrier.
- 15. The finisher as in claim 3 wherein said friction member comprises a first finger and a second finger, said first finger being movable toward said first reference barrier and said second finger being movable toward said second reference barrier, each said first finger being raised out of significant frictional contact with a sheet on said top surface when said second finger is moved toward said second reference barrier, and said second finger being raised out of significant frictional contact with a sheet on said top surface when said first finger is moved toward said first reference barrier.
- 16. The finisher as in claim 4 wherein said friction member comprises a first finger and a second finger, said first finger being movable toward said first reference barrier and said second finger being movable toward said second reference barrier, each said first finger being raised out of significant frictional contact with a sheet on said top surface when said second finger is moved toward said second reference barrier, and said second finger being raised out of significant frictional contact with a sheet on said top surface when said first finger is moved toward said first reference barrier.
- 17. The finisher as in claim 5 wherein said friction member comprises a first finger and a second finger, said first finger being movable toward said first reference barrier and said second finger being movable toward said second reference barrier, each said first finger being raised out of significant frictional contact with a sheet on said top surface when said second finger is moved toward said second reference barrier, and said second finger being raised out of significant frictional contact with a sheet on said top surface when said first finger is moved toward said first reference barrier.
- 18. The finisher as in claim 6 wherein said friction member comprises a first finger and a second finger, said first finger being movable toward said first reference barrier and said second finger being movable toward said second reference barrier, each said first finger being raised out of significant frictional contact with a sheet on said top surface when said second finger is moved toward said second reference barrier, and said second finger being raised out of significant frictional contact with a sheet on said top surface when said first finger is moved toward said first reference barrier.
- 19. The finisher as in claim 7 wherein said friction member comprises a first finger and a second finger, said first finger being movable toward said first reference barrier and said second finger being movable toward said second reference barrier, each said first finger being raised out of significant frictional contact with a sheet on said top surface when said second finger is moved toward said second reference barrier, and said second finger being raised out of significant frictional contact with a sheet on said top surface when said first finger is moved toward said first reference barrier.
- 20. The finisher as in claim 8 wherein said friction member comprises a first finger and a second finger, said first finger being movable toward said first reference barrier and said second finger being movable toward said second reference barrier, each said first finger being raised out of significant frictional contact with a sheet on said top surface when said second finger is moved toward said second reference barrier, and said second finger being raised out of significant frictional contact with a sheet on said top surface when said first finger is moved toward said first reference barrier.
- 21. The finisher as in claim 13 wherein said first finger is moved toward said first reference barrier by a resilient member which does not have sufficient force to move said first finger when a sheet on said top surface contacts said first reference barrier and wherein said second finger is moved toward said second reference barrier by a resilient member which does not have sufficient force to move said second finger when a sheet on said top surface contacts said second reference barrier.
- 22. The finisher as in claim 14 wherein said first finger is moved toward said first reference barrier by a resilient member which does not have sufficient force to move said first finger when a sheet on said top surface contacts said first reference barrier and wherein said second finger is moved toward said second reference barrier by a resilient member which does not have sufficient force to move said second finger when a sheet on said top surface contacts said second reference barrier.
- 23. The finisher as in claim 15 wherein said first finger is moved toward said first reference barrier by a resilient member which does not have sufficient force to move said first finger when a sheet on said top surface contacts said first reference barrier and wherein said second finger is moved toward said second reference barrier by a resilient member which does not have sufficient force to move said second finger when a sheet on said top surface contacts said second reference barrier.
- 24. The finisher as in claim 16 wherein said first finger is moved toward said first reference barrier by a resilient member which does not have sufficient force to move said first finger when a sheet on said top surface contacts said first reference barrier and wherein said second finger is moved toward said second reference barrier by a resilient member which does not have sufficient force to move said second finger when a sheet on said top surface contacts said second reference barrier.
- 25. The finisher as in claim 17 wherein said first finger is moved toward said first reference barrier by a resilient member which does not have sufficient force to move said first finger when a sheet on said top surface contacts said first reference barrier and wherein said second finger is moved toward said second reference barrier by a resilient member which does not have sufficient force to move said second finger when a sheet on said top surface contacts said second reference barrier.
- 26. The finisher as in claim 18 wherein said first finger is moved toward said first reference barrier by a resilient member which does not have sufficient force to move said first finger when a sheet on said top surface contacts said first reference barrier and wherein said second finger is moved toward said second reference barrier by a resilient member which does not have sufficient force to move said second finger when a sheet on said top surface contacts said second reference barrier.
- 27. The finisher as in claim 19 wherein said first finger is moved toward said first reference barrier by a resilient member which does not have sufficient force to move said first finger when a sheet on said top surface contacts said first reference barrier and wherein said second finger is moved toward said second reference barrier by a resilient member which does not have sufficient force to move said second finger when a sheet on said top surface contacts said second reference barrier.
- 28. The finisher as in claim 20 wherein said first finger is moved toward said first reference barrier by a resilient member which does not have sufficient force to move said first finger when a sheet on said top surface contacts said first reference barrier and wherein said second finger is moved toward said second reference barrier by a resilient member which does not have sufficient force to move said second finger when a sheet said top surface contacts said second reference barrier.
