Claims
- 1. A method of using a finishing agent, comprising the steps of:
- applying a finishing agent to a substrate, wherein said finishing agent comprises a chemically adsorptive compound containing a chlorosilyl group and a nonaqueous liquid or solid medium having a boiling point of 100.degree. C. or above;
- reacting said chemically adsorptive compound to said substrate; and
- removing unreacted chemically adsorptive compound.
- 2. The method of using a finishing agent according to claim 1, wherein said substrate is chosen from the group consisting of: metals, ceramics, glass, plastic, stone, wood, paper, fiber and leather.
- 3. The method of using a finishing agent according to claim 2, wherein the surface of said substrate is made hydrophilic prior to applying said finishing agent by plasma or corona treatment.
- 4. The method of using a finishing agent according to claim 1, wherein said agent further comprises a tertiary amine or amide with no active hydrogen.
- 5. The method of using a finishing agent according to claim 4, wherein the amount, in moles, of said tertiary amine or amide in said finishing agent is one to three times more than that of said chemically adsorptive compound.
- 6. The method of using a finishing agent according to claim 1, wherein said agent further comprises an abrasive material.
- 7. The method of using a finishing agent according to claim 1, wherein the nonaqueous liquid or solid medium has a viscosity of 1000 cps or above at room temperature.
- 8. The method of using a finishing agent according to claim 1, wherein said nonaqueous liquid or solid medium comprises:
- a first nonaqueous liquid or solid medium having a boiling point at 100.degree. C. or above and
- a second nonaqueous liquid or solid medium having a boiling point between room temperature and 100.degree. C.
- 9. The method of using a finishing agent according to claim 1, wherein said chemically adsorptive compound with a chlorosilyl group includes fluorocarbon groups.
- 10. The method of using a finishing agent according to claim 1, wherein said chemically adsorptive compound has the following formula:
- CF.sub.3 --(CF.sub.2).sub.n --(R).sub.m --SiX.sub.p Cl.sub.3-p
- wherein n represents an integer of 0 or above; R is selected from the group consisting of alkyl, vinyl, ethynyl, aryl, a substituent comprising a silicon atom and a substituent comprising oxygen atom, m represents 0 or 1; X is selected from the group consisting of H, alkyl, alkoxy, a substituent comprising fluoroalkyl and a substituent comprising fluoroalkoxy and p represents 0, 1 or 2.
- 11. The method of using a finishing agent according to claim 6, wherein said abrasive material comprises at least one component selected from the group consisting of: alumina, silicon carbide, boron carbide, chromium oxide, iron oxide, synthetic diamond and silica.
- 12. The method of using a finishing agent according to claim 11 wherein said at least one component is particulate matter having a particle diameter of less than 10 .mu.m.
- 13. The method of using a finishing agent according to claim 4, wherein the boiling point of said tertiary amine or amide with no active hydrogen is about 200.degree. C. or above.
- 14. The method of using a finishing agent according to claim 4, wherein the nonaqueous liquid or solid medium is present in an amount of from 50 to 90% by weight of the finishing agent.
- 15. The method of using a finishing agent according to claim 4, wherein the nonaqueous liquid or solid medium has a viscosity of 1000 cps or above at room temperature.
- 16. The method of using a finishing agent according to claim 1, wherein said substrate to which said finishing agent is applied is non-wetting by water after rubbing said substrate with a wet cloth saturated with water.
- 17. The method of using a finishing agent according to claim 1, wherein said substrate to which said finishing agent is applied is non-wetting by oil after rubbing said substrate with a wet cloth saturated with water.
