- 4. The system as recited in claim 1, further comprising a sear block; and wherein said first end of said sear arm is pivotally mounted to said sear block and biased in an upward direction by a first torsion spring, said sear biased in a forward direction by a second torsion spring carried by said second end of said sear arm.
- 5. The system as recited in claim 1, wherein said spring system further comprises a first torsion spring and a second torsion spring; and wherein said second torsion spring is positioned to be loaded by rearward movement of said sear, and said first torsion spring is positions to be loaded by movement of said sear downward, said second torsion spring being loadable essentially independently of said first torsion spring.
- 6. The system as recited in claim 1, further comprising a sear block; and wherein said first end of said sear arm is pivotally attached to said sear block, said sear arm biased in an upward direction by a spring carried at said first end of said sear arm, said spring biased against said sear block.
- 7. A fire control system for a semiautomatic weapon, said semiautomatic weapon having a frame, a slide carried by said frame, a striker carried by said slide, and a striker spring biasing said striker in a forward direction, said system comprising:
- a trigger;
- a trigger arm having a first end and a second end, said trigger connected to said second end;
- a sear block positioned within said frame;
- a sear carried within said sear block, said sear engaging said first end of said trigger arm;
- a spring system for urging said sear in an upward and forward direction;
- said trigger acting through said trigger arm to move said sear rearward and downward against the urging of said spring system, releasing said striker when said trigger is pulled far enough, said sear remaining rearward and downward until said trigger is released,
- said sear having a cam surface said striker camming said cam surface of said sear downward against the urging of said spring system when said sear is urged forward following release of said trigger; and
- a sear arm having a first end and a second end, said sear arm pivotally attached to said sear block at said first end, and said sear pivotally carried by said second end of said sear arm.
- 8. The system as recited in claim 7, wherein said spring system further comprises a spring carried by said first end of said sear arm for urging said sear arm and said sear in an upward direction, said spring biased against said sear block and said sear arm.
- 9. The system as recited in claim 7, wherein said spring system further comprises a spring carried by said second end of said sear arm for urging said sear in a forward direction, said spring biased against said sear arm and said sear.
- 10. The system as recited in claim 7, wherein said spring system further comprises a first spring carried by said first end of said sear arm for urging said sear arm and said sear in an upward direction and a second spring carried by said second end of said sear arm for urging said sear in a forward direction.
- 11. A weapon for firing a bullet, said weapon comprising:
- a frame;
- a slide slidably mounted to said frame;
- a striker carried by said slide;
- a striker spring urging said striker forward;
- a trigger carried by said frame so that said trigger can move between a first position and a second position;
- a trigger arm having a first end and an opposing second end, said trigger attached to said second end of said trigger arm;
- a sear block positioned within said frame;
- a sear in operative connection with said first end of said trigger arm so that said trigger arm can move said sear rearward and downward when said trigger is moved from said first position to said second position; and
- a spring system having a sear arm, said sear arm having a first end and a second end, said first end of said sear arm pivotally carried by said sear block, said sear pivotally carried by said second end of said sear arm, and said spring system urging said sear in an upward and forward direction,
- said trigger acting through said trigger arm to move said sear rearward and downward against the urging of said spring system, releasing said striker when said trigger is pulled far enough, said sear remaining rearward and downward until said trigger is released,
- said sear having a cam surface, said striker camming said cam surface of said sear downward against the urging of said spring system when said sear is urged forward following release of said trigger.
- 12. The weapon as recited in claim 11, wherein said spring system further comprises a torsion spring carried by said second end of said sear arm, said torsion spring urging said sear arm in a forward direction, said torsion spring biased against said sear arm and said sear.
- 13. The weapon as recited in claim 11, wherein the movement of said sear is limited by a forward cam surface and a rearward cam surface on said sear block.
- 14. The weapon as recited in claim 11, wherein said sear is pivotally mounted to said sear arm by a first pivot pin and said sear arm is pivotally mounted to said sear block by a second pivot pin; and wherein said spring system further comprises a first torsion spring and a second torsion spring, said first torsion spring carried on said second pivot pin at said first end of said sear arm, said first torsion spring urging said sear arm in an upward direction, said first torsion spring biased against said sear block and said sear arm, and said second spring carried on said first pivot pin at said second end of said sear arm, said second spring urging said sear arm in a forward direction, said second spring biased against said sear arm and said sear.
- 15. The weapon as recited in claim 11, wherein said sear block has a front plate, a rear plate, a forward cam surface, and a rearward cam surface; and wherein said sear is supported between said front and rear plates by said spring system, whereby said spring system urges said sear in an upward and a forward direction against said rearward cam surface and said forward cam surface.
