Claims
- 1. A fire-retardant particleboard containing at least about 2.0% of solid melamine phosphate having bonded thereto via hydrogen bonding at least about 0.5 mole of phosphoric acid per mole of melamine phosphate.
- 2. A particleboard according to claim 1 said melamine phosphate having hydrogen bonded thereto from about 0.5 to about 1.5 moles of phosphoric acid per mole of melamine phosphate.
- 3. A particleboard according to claim 1 which is multi-layered and said melamine phosphate material is present in the surface layers thereof only.
- 4. A method of preparing the fire-retardant particleboard of claim 1 which comprises contacting wood particles with solid melamine phosphate having hydrogen bonded thereto at least about 0.5 mole of phosphoric acid per mole of melamine phosphate, adding a resinous glue to the resultant chips and consolidating the glue coated chips into a solid mass.
- 5. A method according to claim 4 wherein said chips are used to form only the surface layer of said particleboard.
