DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 5 thereof, a new shield device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.

As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 5, the fire shield assembly 10 generally comprises a housing 12 that may be mounted to a vertical support surface 14. The vertical support surface 14 may be an exterior wall of a building or the like. The housing 12 has a first end 16, a second end 18 and an outer wall 20 extending therebetween. The outer wall 20 has a bottom side 22 and a front side 24. The bottom side 22 is open to access an interior of the housing 12. The housing 12 is positioned on the vertical support surface 14 to be spaced from ground 26.

Indicia 28 may be printed on the front side 24 of the housing 12. The indicia 28 may comprise words 30. The words 30 may comprise “Safety Shield Made In The U.S.A.” Additionally, the indicia 28 may be positioned closer to the second end 18 than the first end 16.

A plurality of brackets 32 is provided and each of the brackets 32 is coupled to the outer wall 20 of the housing 12. Each of the brackets 32 may be fastened to the vertical support surface 14. Thus, the housing 12 may be retained on the vertical support surface 14. A plurality of screws may be provided to fasten the brackets 32 to the vertical support surface 14. A bubble level 34 is coupled to the outer wall 20 of the housing 12. The bubble level 34 facilitates the housing 12 to be oriented level with respect to ground 26.

A shield 36 is provided. The shield 36 is movably coupled to the housing 12 and the shield 36 may be manipulated. The shield 36 is selectively deployed from the housing 12. Thus, the shield 36 may extend between a stove 38 and the vertical support surface 14. The stove 38 may comprise a barbeque grill or other outdoor stove.

The shield 36 is comprised of a heat resistant material. The shield 36 inhibits the stove 38 from heating the vertical support surface 14 when the shield 36 is deployed. Thus, the shield 36 reduces a fire hazard with respect to the stove 38. The shield 36 may block hot grease and open flames associated with the stove 38 from contacting the vertical support surface 14.

The shield 36 comprises a spool 40 that is rotatably positioned within the housing 12. The spool 40 extends between the first end 16 and the second end 18. The spool 40 is biased to rotate in a first direction and the spool 40 is urgeable to rotate in a second direction. The spool 40 may comprise a spring loaded spool or the like.

A sheet 42 is wrapped around the spool 40 and the sheet 42 may be manipulated. The sheet 42 has a distal edge 44 with respect to the spool 40. The distal edge 44 is urgeable outwardly from the bottom side 22 of the housing 12. The spool 40 is urged to rotate in the second direction when the sheet 42 is urged outwardly from the housing 12. Thus, the sheet 42 extends between the stove 38 and the vertical support surface 14. The sheet 42 is comprised of a fire resistant material such as a treated vegetable fiber or the like.

A pair of grips 46 is provided and each of the grips 46 is coupled to the distal edge 44 of the sheet 42. The grips 46 are spaced apart from each other, and each of the grips 46 has a first end 48 and a second end 50. Each of the grips 46 is curved between the first end 48 and the second end 50. The first end 48 and the second end 50 corresponding to each of the grips 46 is coupled to the distal edge of the sheet 42. Thus, each of the grips 46 forms a closed loop.

A pair of hooks 52 is provided and each of the hooks 52 may be coupled to the vertical support surface 14. Each of the hooks 52 is spaced from the housing 12. Moreover, each of the hooks 52 is positioned adjacent to an intersection of the vertical support surface 14 and ground 26. Each of the grips 46 engages an associated one of the hooks 52 when the sheet 42 is urged outwardly from the housing 12. Thus, the sheet 42 may be retained between the stove 38 and the vertical support surface 14. Each of the grips 46 selectively disengages the associated hook 52 such that the spool 40 rotates in the first direction. Thus, the sheet 42 is retracted into the housing 12.

In use, the sheet 42 is urged outwardly from the housing 12 when the stove 38 is employed in the convention of cooking. Each of the grips 46 engages the associated hook 52. Thus, the sheet 42 extends substantially between the housing 12 and ground 26. The sheet 42 blocks hot grease and open flame from contacting the vertical support surface 14 when the stove 38 is employed for cooking. Thus, the sheet 42 inhibits the vertical support surface 14 from catching fire due to contact with the hot grease and the open flame. Moreover, the sheet 42 inhibits heat generated by the stove 38 from contacting the vertical support surface 14. Each of the grips 46 is disengaged from the associated hook 52 and the spool 40 retracts the sheet 42 into the housing 12.

With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.

Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
