Claims
- 1. A firearm safety device for blocking a firing chamber of a revolver handgun or a semiautomatic handgun to prevent firing comprising:
(a.) A lock rod extending from a knurled cap having a removable tip on an opposite end, (b.) A lock sleeve, in which said lock rod is positioned having a knurled enlarged end portion and an opposite end plug, (c.) Means for attaching said kurled cap to said knurled enlarged end portion, (d.) Means to allow a diametrical expansion of the end plug withing said firing chamber, (e.) A control portion of said removable tip having touching contract with the center of the end plug, (f.) A shoulder of the end plug abutting a shoulder of said firing chamber to prevent removal of said firearm safety device from said firing chamber.
- 2. The firearm safety device as defined in claim 1 wherein the end plug of said lock sleeve further includes a plurality of linear slots to allow diametrical expansion of the end plug.
- 3. The firearm safety device as defined in claim 2, wherein said control portion of said removable tip controls the necessary expansion of the end plug for different caliber handguns.
- 4. The firearm safety device as defined in claim 3, wherein the expanded diameter of the end plug of said lock sleeve is greater than the diameter of a bore of a barrel and less than the diameter of said firing chamber, allowing, relatively free rotational movement of said firearm safety device as position n the handgun.
- 5. The firearm safety device as defined in claim 1, wherein said attachment means comprises said knurled cap and said knurled enlarged end portion threadedly attached together having a junction which is a nearly invisible line.
- 6. The firearm safety device as defined in claim 1, wherein a neck portion of said removable tip had an outside diameter smaller than that of said control portion, to allow the required diametrical contraction of the end plug, necessary for removal of said firearm safety device from the handgun.
- 7. The firearm safety device as defined in claim 1, where a retainer portion of said removable tip has an outside diameter smaller than the inside diameter of said bore of said barrel, and greater than the inside diameter of said lock sleeve, to prevent separation of said lock rod from said lock sleeve.
- 8. The firearm safety device as defined in claim 1, wherein an observation notch on said knurled enlarged end portion of said lock sleeve, can be aligned with a front sight or other part of the handgun as a tamper evident indicator.
- 9. The firearm safety device defined in claim 1 wherein said firearm safety device is adaptable to rifles and shotguns.
- 10. A firearm safety device for blocking a firing chamber of a revolver handgun or a semiautomatic handgun to preclude firing comprising:
(a.) A lock sleeve inserted through a muzzle of a barrel into said firing chamber of a handgun to block said firing chamber to preclude the presence of a cartridge, (b.) Said lock sleeve having an opposite end plug with a plurality of linear slots to allow diametrical expansion of the end plug, (c.) An adjustable lock rod, inserted into said lock sleeve, has a stepped end portion to cause required diametrical expansion of the end plug, said adjustable lock rod having an opposite end portion into which is threaded an adjusting screw having a caliber indicating line for each of a step of said stepped end portion, the indicating lines are selectively aligned with an edge of said opposite end portion of said adjustable lock rod, (d.) A shoulder of the end plug abutting a shoulder of said firing chamber to prevent removal of said firearm device from said firing chamber, (e.) Said adjustable lock rod contained in said lock sleeve by a knurled cap threadedly attached to a knurled enlarged end portion of said lock sleeve, childproofing the removal of said firearm safety device.
- 11. The firearm safety device as defined in claim 10, wherein the required expansion of the end plug for the handguns of different calibers is controlled by the outside diameter of said steps of said stepped end portion.
- 12. The firearm safety device as defined in claim 10 wherein the outside diameter of the end plug of said lock sleeve, when diametrically expanded in the handguns, is smaller than the outside diameter of said firing chamber and larger than a bore diameter of said barrel allowing free movement but not removal of said firearm safety device.
- 13. The firearm safety device as defined in claim 10 wherein a junction of said knurled cap with said knurled enlarged end portion appears as nearly invisible line.
- 14. The firearm safety device as defined in claim 10 wherein said lock sleeve, said adjustable lock rod and said knurled cap are made from plastic, additional said adjustable lock rod may be made from metal to provide greater rigidity.
