Claims
- 1. A releasable clip for holding a fishing line comprising
- a clip body,
- means on the body for securing it to a support,
- a releasable arm pivoted to said body for motion between a first position in which a portion of said arm adjacent said body is spaced from the body to define a line receiving cavity closed at opposite ends of said arm, and a second position in which one end of said arm is away from said body, whereby the force exerted by a tensioned line extending through said cavity tends to pivot said arm away from said body, and
- means for retaining said arm in said first position comprising
- a recess formed in an outer edge of said body and opening outwardly and forwardly toward said arm,
- a latch link in said recess and having a latch end extending from said recess beyond said body and toward said arm, said latch link being pivoted to said body with said recess,
- means for resiliently pressing said latch link into said recess, and
- interengaging cam means on said arm and said latch end for releasably latching said arm to said latch link.
- 2. A releasable clip for holding a fishing line comprising
- a recess formed in an outer edge of said body and opening outwardly and forwardly toward said arm,
- a latch link in said recess and having a latch end extending from said recess beyond said body and toward said arm, said latch link being pivoted to said body within said recess,
- means for resiliently pressing said latch link into said recess,
- interengaging cam means on said arm and said latch end for releasably latching said arm to said latch link,
- said recess including spaced side walls confining and guiding sides of said latch link, said arm being formed with a recess that mates with said body recess, said arm recess having side walls that confine said latch end when said arm is in said first position, said latch link having a flat configuration and being enclosed on both sides thereof in said recess.
- 3. The clip of claim 2 wherein said latch link comprises an angulated strap having a first leg extending into said recess, and a second leg forming said latch end and extending from one end of said first leg.
- 4. The clip of claim 3 wherein said means for pressing said latch link comprises a headed bolt having a head captured in said body recess and a threaded shank extending through the bottom of said body recess and through said first leg of said latch link, and a compression spring interposed within said body recess between said bolt head and said first leg, said first leg being fulcrumed on the bottom of said recess to provide the pivoted connection of said latch link to said body.
- 5. The clip of claim 4 wherein said latch link is substantially Z-shaped, wherein said first leg includes an intermediate portion extending into said body recess at an angle to said second leg and an inner leg portion extending along the bottom of said recess from said intermediate portion, said bolt extending through said inner leg portion.
- 6. The clip of claim 4 wherein said body is formed with an aperture extending therethrough adjacent the bottom of said body recess, and including a thumb nut threaded on said bolt shank and captured within said aperture.
- 7. The clip of claim 4 wherein said body is formed with a bore extending therethrough into said body recess for receiving said bolt shank, and including a viewing aperture extending into said bore from a side of said body for visually observing position of the end of said bolt shank to thereby indicate the amount of compression of said spring.
- 8. the clip of claim 2 including a roller shaft extending through said arm, a roller journaled on said shaft and having a surface in said cavity, said shaft having a free end extending into said arm recess, said cam means including said free end of said roller shaft.
- 9. The clip of claim 8 wherein said latch link is made of a corrosion resistant metal, said latch end being upset to form an arcuate shaft end receiving ridge that provides part of said cam means.
- 10. The clip of claim 9 including a pin in said arm extending through the axis of said roller shaft, said pin forming a pivot that pivots said arm to said body.
- 11. The clip of claim 10 wherein said arm includes a pivot lug projecting therefrom, and wherein said body is formed with first and second pivot ears extending on either side of said roller shaft and receiving said pivot lug therebetween, said pin extending through said ears and lug.
- 12. The clip of claim 1 including a roller journaled in said arm and having a surface in said cavity spaced from said body, said body including a pair of shrouds extending partly across an end of said cavity to the center of the roller and forwardly on either side of at least one end of said roller to prevent a fishing line entrained over said roller from moving past the end of said roller.
