Claims
- 1. A unitary fishing sinker comprising:
a body having a fishing line connection member wherein said body comprises a weighted portion having a density greater than the density of water and a buoyant portion having a density less than that of water.
- 2. The fishing sinker of claim 1 wherein said body is elongated and includes a connection end and an opposite free end.
- 3. The fishing sinker of claim 2 wherein said body includes a center axis extending from said connection end to said free end, a length dimension measured from said connection end to said free end along said center axis, a width dimension measured in a direction generally perpendicular to said center axis and at a point midway between said connection end and said free end and wherein said length dimension is at least three times greater than said width dimension.
- 4. The fishing sinker of claim 3 having a cross-sectional configuration defined by a plane perpendicular to said center axis and extending through said body and wherein said cross-sectional configuration of said body is substantially the same throughout substantially the entire length of said body.
- 5. The fishing sinker of claim 3 wherein said buoyant portion is comprised of a solid buoyant material.
- 6. The fishing sinker of claim 2 including a wire extending through a portion of said body and outwardly from said connection end to define said fishing line connection member.
- 7. The fishing sinker of claim 2 including a wire extending through a portion of said body and outwardly from said free end.
- 8. The fishing sinker of claim 7 wherein said wire extends through the entirety of said body and outwardly from said connection end to define said fishing line connection member.
- 9. The fishing sinker of claim 7 wherein the portion of said wire extending outwardly from said free end includes a distal end and said fish sinker further includes a bead connected to said distal end.
- 10. The fishing sinker of claim 2 wherein said buoyant portion is near said connection end and said weighted portion is near said free end.
- 11. The fishing sinker of claim 2 wherein said body is curved.
- 12. The fishing sinker of claim 2 wherein said weighted portion includes a first weighted portion adjacent to said connection end and a second weighted portion adjacent to said free end and wherein said buoyant portion is positioned between said first and second weighted portions.
- 13. The fishing sinker of claim 1 wherein said body has an exterior surface and the fishing sinker includes a coating applied over substantially the entirety of said exterior surface.
- 14. A fishing sinker comprising:
an elongated body having a longitudinal axis, first and second ends and a fishing line connection member at one of first and second ends and a wire extending through a portion of said body and outwardly from said one end to define said fishing line connection member.
- 15. The fishing sinker of claim 14 wherein said wire extends outwardly from said second end.
- 16. The fishing sinker of claim 14 wherein said body is elongated and includes a length dimension measured from said first end to said second end along said center axis, a width dimension measured in a direction generally perpendicular to said center axis and wherein said length dimension is at least three times greater than said width dimension.
- 17. A fishing sinker comprising an elongated body having a first and second ends, a longitudinal axis, a length dimension measured from said first end to said second end along said axis and a width dimension measured in a direction perpendicular to said axis wherein said length dimension is at least five times said width dimension and wherein said body is curved, said body further including a fishing line connection member provided at said first end.
- 18. The fishing sinker of claim 17 wherein said body is curved such that the angle formed by the extension of a line extending from said first end through the midpoint of said body and a line extending from said second end to said midpoint is about 5° to 75°.
- 19. A method of making a fishing sinker of the type having a body with a weighted portion having a density greater than water and a buoyant portion having a density less than water, said fishing sinker comprising the steps of:
providing a wire; applying said buoyant portion to said wire; and molding said weighted portion to said wire adjacent to said buoyant portion.
- 20. The method of claim 19 wherein said molding step includes molding said weighted portion so that a portion of one end of said wire extends outwardly from said weighted portion.
- 21. The method of claim 19 wherein said weighted portion is comprised of first and second weighted portions and wherein said first and second weighted portions are molded to opposite ends of said buoyant portion.
- 22. The method of claim 19 including providing a dip coating over substantially the entirety of said body.
- 23. The method of claim 19 including forming a fishing line connection eyelet at one end.
