Claims
- 1. A riveting apparatus for operation on a workpiece having opposite sides and supported on a surface with said sides disposed substantially perpendicular to said supporting surface, said riveting apparatus comprising:
- a frame, a pair of spaced apart sides operatively supported by said frame and adapted to move along said supporting surface and extending along said workpiece in a manner such that said sides are in straddling relation to said workpiece;
- a carriage means movably mounted on at least one of said sides;
- first and second positioning means carried by said sides, respectively;
- riveting tools on said first and second positioning means respectively, said tools being movable towards and away from said workpiece;
- means on said frame for moving said frame in a first direction along said supporting surface and along said workpiece;
- means for moving said carriage means on said at least one side in a direction substantially perpendicular to said first direction and towards and away from said supporting surface;
- means for moving said positioning means in a third direction transverse to said first direction and towards and away from said workpiece;
- means for moving said tools substantially about axes substantially parallel to said first direction and to said supporting surface; and
- means for moving said first and second positioning means and with them said riveting tools about axes substantially perpendicular to said first direction and to said supporting surface.
