Abstract
The present invention describes a fixation system for the backstrap of pistol grips, preferably micro-compact pistols. The present invention aims to promote better ergonomics for different users of the same pistol. As each person has different hand dimensions, it is not possible to develop a grip geometry that ensures an ideal hold for everyone, thus, the present invention describes a system that allows the interchangeability of backstraps of different sizes, all of which can be fitted to the pistol's grip. To attach the backstrap to the grip, a housing and a tab equipped with at least one through-hole are designed on the grip and a protrusion is arranged on the backstrap, which fits into said housing, and holes for a connecting element to be inserted and held in the holes and the through-hole.

BACKGROUND
Field of the Invention

The present model refers to a fixation system for the backstrap of pistol grips, situated in the field of mechanical engineering, focused on firearms.

Description of Related Art

Regarding micro-compact pistols, ergonomics is one of the most important characteristics, as the size limitation directly affects the user's grip. With a poor grip combined with the distribution of energy generated with each shot, constant shooting practice can lead to accidents and irreversible damage to the user.

For this reason, manufacturing only one grip size does not meet the needs of all users, as each person has a different hand size. Furthermore, the creation of different grip sizes for the same pistol to be chosen at the time of purchase, limits the equipment for use by people with similar hand sizes.

The prior art lacks, therefore, a solution for micro-compact pistols that adapts the ergonomics of the same pistol to different users, and that is preferably simple and quick.

SUMMARY

The present model aims to adapt the ergonomics of a micro-compact pistol for various users. To this end, the present model describes a fixation system for the backstrap of pistols that allows for the quick and easy replacement of the backstrap, enabling backstraps of different sizes and/or shapes to be associated with the same grip. Thus, the same micro-compact pistol, with one simple step of replacing the backstrap, can be safely used by various users, even if they have different hand sizes.

As a first object, the present model describes a fixation system for the backstrap of micro-compact pistol grips in which:

    • On a rear face of the grip, the said grip comprises a housing in its upper region and, in its lower region, a tab provided with at least one through-hole;
    • the backstrap comprises a protrusion in its upper region and two aligned through-holes in its lower region;
    • it comprises a connecting element;
    • where, for the fixation of the backstrap on the grip, the protrusion is positioned in the housing, and with the hole in the grip and the holes in the backstrap aligned, the connecting element is inserted into the through-holes of the backstrap and the grip.

DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The following descriptions are presented as non-limiting examples of preferred embodiments, as well as alternative embodiments, with the aim of describing the present model in a clear and objective way.

As a first object, the present model describes a fixation system for the backstrap (3) of the grip (1) of micro-compact pistols in which:

    • on a rear face of the grip (1), said grip (1) comprises in its upper region a housing (7) and in its lower region a tab (5) provided with at least one through-hole (6);
    • the backstrap (3) in its upper region comprises a protrusion (10) and in its lower region two aligned through-holes in the backstrap (8, 9);
    • it comprises a connecting element (2);
    • where, to fix the backstrap (3) on the grip (1), the protrusion (10) is positioned in the housing (7) and, with the hole (6) on the grip and the holes on the backstrap (8, 9) aligned, the connecting element (2) is inserted into the through-holes in the backstrap and grip.

The housing (7) present in the rear region of the grip (1) can have any size and geometry. The said housing (7) must have its depth oriented so that when the protrusion (10) of the backstrap (3) is inserted into it, the said backstrap (3) is prevented from moving toward the rear of the pistol, for example, upward or slightly inclined.

The protrusion (10) of the backstrap (3) must have geometry and size so that it can be inserted into the housing (7) present in the grip (1), having the ability to move inside it to allow the assembly operation of the backstrap. It should be noted that when the backstrap (3) is mounted on the grip (1) the rear face of the protrusion (10) must remain in contact with the rear face of the housing (7), preventing movement of the backstrap (3) toward the rear of the gun. It should be noted that the protrusion (10) must be large enough, depending on its material of manufacture, to withstand the efforts made on the backstrap (3).

The tab (5) projects from the lower region of the grip towards the rear of the pistol. Said tab (5) can have any geometry and size, provided that it supports the efforts transmitted by the backstrap (3). The through-hole (6) is orthogonal to the protrusion direction of the tab (5).

The backstrap holes (8, 9) are always aligned with each other and regardless of the size or shape of the backstrap, they are always arranged in the same global position, in other words, the backstrap holes (8, 9) are always positioned so that when the backstrap is in the correct locking position, the backstrap holes (8, 9) and the tab hole (6) remain aligned, allowing the connecting element (2) to be inserted.

The connecting element (2) must have a geometry that allows it to fit into the holes of the backstrap (8, 9) and into the hole (6) of the tab, and that it remains inside the holes. In one embodiment, the connecting element (2) is a metal pin.

The backstrap (3) can have any size and geometry; however, when different backstraps are compared using the same global coordinate axis, the positioning of the protrusion (10) and the holes of the backstrap (8, 9) must be the same for all backstraps, thus, the same micro-compact pistol can have its backstrap (3) swapped out to fit the size of the user's hand, improving ergonomics and consequently preventing accidents and/or damage due to the constant use of the pistol.

To place the backstrap (3) on the grip (1), first the protrusion (10) is inserted into the housing (7), generating a pivoting situation in which the backstrap rotates on the protrusion (10) until the holes in the backstrap (8, 9) align with the hole (6) in the tab (5) where, finally, the connecting element (2) is inserted. To remove the backstrap (3), simply perform the steps in reverse order.

In one embodiment, the backstrap (3) comprises, partially or entirely, a texture. Said texture helps prevent the grip (1) from slipping in relation to the user's hand.

In one embodiment, an interference fit is provided between the connecting element (2) and the holes of the backstrap (8, 9) and the hole (6) of the tab (5).
