Claims
- 1. A flashing member configured to reduce moisture intrusion at an upper portion of a wall proximate a vent in an eave portion of a building structure, the flashing member comprising:
an upper portion configured to be positioned above the vent and extend adjacent a portion of a roof structure so as to maintain air circulation through the vent into the roof structure; and a lower portion extending from said upper portion configured to be at least partially positioned against the wall of the building structure and configured to at least partially extend below the vent, said lower portion and said upper portion acting in conjunction to facilitate reduction of moisture intrusion into the upper portion of the wall in the building structure.
- 2. The flashing member of claim 1, wherein said second portion comprises a drip flange extending outwardly downward from an end portion of said lower portion.
- 3. The flashing member of claim 2, wherein said drip flange comprises a folded-back portion wrapped around an under-side portion of said drip flange.
- 4. The flashing member of claim 3, wherein said drip flange comprises a downward extension configured to extend substantially vertically downward from an end of said folded-back portion.
- 5. The flashing member of claim 4, wherein said downward extension is configured to extend downward a distance configured to be positioned against the wall to reduce moisture entering behind said lower portion.
- 6. The flashing member of claim 1, wherein said lower portion is configured to extend below the vent a distance to reduce moisture intrusion into the upper portion of the wall in the building structure.
- 7. The flashing member of claim 6, wherein said distance of said lower portion extending below the vent is at least seven inches.
- 8. The flashing member of claim 1, wherein said upper portion and said lower portion defined an edge therebetween.
- 9. The flashing member of claim 1, wherein said upper portion extends to said lower portion with a rounded portion therebetween.
- 10. The flashing member of claim 1, wherein said upper portion is at least partially positioned against the portion of the roof structure.
- 11. The flashing member of claim 1, wherein an end of said upper portion extends adjacent the portion of the roof structure.
- 12. The flashing member of claim 11, wherein said end of said upper portion is configured to contact the portion of the roof structure.
- 13. The flashing member of claim 1, wherein said upper portion includes an abutting portion configured to contact the portion of the roof structure.
- 14. The flashing member of claim 1, wherein said upper portion is configured to at least partially extend into the roof structure.
- 15. The flashing member of claim 1, wherein said upper portion is configured to act as a guard member configured to reduce moisture intrusion into the upper portion of the wall and allowing air circulation through the vent into the roof structure.
- 16. The flashing member of claim 1, wherein said flashing member comprises a metallic material.
- 17. The flashing member of claim 1, wherein said flashing member comprises a polymeric material.
- 18. A flashing configured to reduce moisture intrusion at an upper portion of an exterior wall near a vent at an eave portion of a building structure, comprising:
a guard portion configured to be positioned intermediate the vent and the wall above the vent and to reduce water intrusion into the upper portion of the wall from moisture drawn and blown through the vent, and to facilitate airflow through the vent into a roof space to be ventilated; and a sealing portion configured to be attached to a portion of the building structure to cooperate therewith to reduce moisture intrusion in the upper portion of the wall.
- 19. A flashing member configured to reduce moisture intrusion at a top portion of a wall proximate a vent in an eave portion of a building structure, the flashing member comprising:
an upper flashing extension configured to be positioned above the vent and extend adjacent a portion of a roof structure so as maintain air circulation through the vent into the roof structure and reduce moisture from entering the top portion of the wall in the building structure; and a lower flashing extension configured to extend from said upper flashing extension, said lower flashing extension configured to extend along side and configured to be positioned against a portion of the wall of the building structure and configured to extend below the vent, said lower portion configured to be at least partially positioned against the wall a distance to reduce moisture from entering behind said lower flashing extension and entering the top portion of the wall in the building structure; and a drip flange extending outwardly downward from an end portion of said lower flashing extension configured to direct moisture away from the wall of the building structure.
- 20. A means for flashing an upper portion of a wall to reduce moisture intrusion at a top portion of a wall proximate a vent in an cave portion of a building structure, comprising:
guard flashing means for reducing moisture intrusion at the top portion of the wall and for allowing air circulation through the vent and into the roof structure; and wall flashing means for reducing moisture intrusion to the top portion of the wall.
- 21. A flashing member configured to reduce moisture intrusion at an upper portion of a wall proximate a vent in an eave portion of a building structure, the flashing member comprising:
a guard member configured to be positioned intermediate the vent and the wall above the vent, said guard member configured to reduce moisture intrusion into the upper portion of the wall from moisture drawn and blown through the vent, and to facilitate airflow through the vent into a roof space to be ventilated.
- 22. A method of forming a flashing configured to reduce moisture intrusion at an upper portion of a wall proximate a vent in an eave portion of a building structure, the method comprising:
forming a flashing member having a upper portion and a lower portion so that said upper portion extends to said lower portion; configuring said upper portion to be positioned above the vent and extend adjacent a portion of a roof structure so as maintain air circulation through the vent into the roof structure; and configuring said lower portion to be at least partially positioned against the wall of the building structure so that said lower portion extends at least partially below the vent of the building structure, wherein said lower portion and said upper portion cooperates in facilitating reduction of moisture intrusion into the upper portion of the wall in the building structure.
- 23. The method of claim 22, wherein said forming said lower portion comprises forming a drip flange extending outwardly downward from an end portion of said lower portion.
- 24. The method of claim 23, wherein said forming said drip flange comprises forming a folded-back portion wrapped around an under-side portion of said drip flange.
- 25. The method of claim 24, wherein said forming said drip flange comprises forming a downward extension configured to extend substantially vertically downward from an end of said folded-back portion of said drip flange.
- 26. The method of claim 16, wherein said forming said downward extension comprises configuring said downward extension a distance configured to be positioned against the wall to reduce the moisture from entering behind said lower portion.
- 27. The method of claim 22, wherein said configuring said lower portion comprises configuring said lower portion to extend below the vent opening a distance to reduce moisture intrusion into the upper portion of the wall of the building structure.
- 28. The method of claim 27, wherein said configuring said lower portion comprises configuring said distance to extend below said vent at least seven inches.
- 29. The method of claim 22, wherein said forming comprises configuring said flashing member with an edge defined between said upper portion and said lower portion of said flashing member.
- 30. The method of claim 22, wherein said forming comprises configuring said flashing member with a rounded portion extending between said upper portion and said lower portion of said flashing member.
- 31. The method of claim 22, wherein said forming comprises forming said flashing member from a metallic material.
- 32. The method of claim 22, wherein said forming comprises forming said flashing member from a polymeric material.
- 33. The method of claim 22, wherein said configuring said upper portion comprises configuring said upper portion to at least partially be positioned against the portion of the roof structure.
- 34. The method of claim 22, wherein said configuring said upper portion comprises configuring an end of said upper portion to extend adjacent the portion of the roof structure.
- 35. The method of claim 34, wherein said configuring said end of said upper portion comprises configuring said end of said upper portion to contact the portion of the roof structure.
- 36. The method of claim 22, wherein said configuring said upper portion comprises configuring said upper portion to include an abutting portion configured to contact the portion of the roof structure.
- 37. The method of claim 22, wherein said configuring said upper portion comprises configuring said upper portion to at least partially extend into the roof structure.
- 38. A method of installing a flashing at an upper portion of a wall proximate a vent in an eave portion of a building structure configured to reduce moisture intrusion at the upper portion of the wall, the method comprising:
providing a flashing member having a upper portion and a lower portion so that said upper portion extends from said lower portion; and disposing said flashing member so that said upper portion is positioned above the vent and extends adjacent a portion of a roof structure so as maintain air circulation into the roof structure through the vent into the roof structure and said lower portion is at least partially positioned against the wall of the building structure so that said lower portion at least partially extends below the vent, wherein said lower portion and said upper portion cooperates in facilitating reduction of moisture intrusion into the upper portion of the wall of the building structure.
- 39. The method of claim 38, wherein said disposing comprises attaching said lower portion to the wall.
- 40. The method of claim 39, wherein said attaching said lower portion comprises attaching said lower portion to the wall with fasteners.
- 41. The method of claim 38, wherein said providing said flashing member comprises providing a drip flange extending outwardly downward from an end portion of said lower portion.
- 42. The method of claim 41, wherein said providing said drip flange comprises providing said drip flange to include a folded-back portion wrapped around an under-side portion of said drip flange.
- 43. The method of claim 38, wherein said disposing said flashing member comprises positioning said upper portion to at least partially abut against the portion of the roof structure.
- 44. The method of claim 43, wherein said positioning comprises attaching said upper portion to the portion of the roof structure.
- 45. The method of claim 44, wherein said attaching comprises attaching said upper portion to the portion of the roof structure with fasteners.
- 46. The method of claim 38, wherein said disposing comprises disposing said flashing member so that said lower portion is positioned against the wall in preparation to receive an exterior treatment formed on the wall to at least partially overlap said lower portion.
- 47. The method of claim 41, wherein said disposing comprises disposing said flashing member so that said lower portion is positioned at least partially against the wall in preparation to receive an exterior treatment formed on the wall to extend proximate an underside of said drip flange.
- 48. The method of claim 38, wherein said disposing comprises disposing said flashing member so that said lower portion is positioned against the wall in preparation to receive the vent to abut and to be attached to an outer surface of said lower portion of said flashing member.
