Claims
- 1. A flashing configured to reduce moisture intrusion in a building structure between two exterior treatments, the flashing comprising:
a lower portion having a back surface and a front surface, said back surface configured to be positioned against a face surface of a first exterior treatment; an upper portion having a back surface and a front surface, said upper portion configured to be positioned between a wall structure of the building structure and a second exterior treatment; and a middle portion having a bottom surface and a top surface, said middle portion positioned between and interconnected to said upper portion and said lower portion of said flashing intermediate the first exterior treatment and the second exterior treatment.
- 2. The flashing of claim 1, further comprising a drip flange extending downwardly outward from an end of said lower portion of said flashing to direct moisture received from the second exterior treatment away from the first exterior treatment.
- 3. The flashing of claim 1, wherein said lower portion extends downward and is configured to be positioned against the face surface of the first exterior treatment a distance to reduce moisture intrusion from entering behind said lower portion.
- 4. The flashing of claim 3, wherein said distance of said lower portion configured to be positioned against the upper portion of the first exterior treatment extends at least one-quarter of an inch.
- 5. The flashing of claim 1, wherein said middle portion is configured to be downwardly sloped toward said lower portion when said upper portion is positioned between the wall and the second exterior treatment of the building structure.
- 6. The flashing of claim 2, wherein said drip flange comprises a folded-back portion wrapped around an under-side portion of said drip flange.
- 7. The flashing of claim 6, wherein said folded-back portion includes a downward extension extending from an end of said folded-back portion, said downward extension extending substantially vertically a distance downward and configured to be positioned against a front surface of the first exterior treatment.
- 8. The flashing of claim 7, wherein said downward extension extends against the upper portion of the first exterior treatment said distance to reduce moisture intrusion from entering behind said downward extension.
- 9. The flashing of claim 7, wherein said distance of said downward extension is at least one-quarter of an inch.
- 10. The flashing of claim 1, wherein said middle portion comprises a downward slope toward said lower portion with a predetermined angle.
- 11. The flashing of claim 1, wherein said middle portion comprises a first slope with a first predetermined angle and a second slope with a second predetermined angle, each of said first slope and said second slope sloping downward toward said lower portion.
- 12. The flashing of claim 1, wherein said flashing is formed from a metallic material.
- 13. The flashing of claim 1, wherein said flashing comprises a polymeric resin.
- 14. A flashing configured to reduce moisture intrusion in a building structure between a first exterior treatment and a second exterior treatment, the flashing comprising:
a lower portion having a back surface and a front surface, said lower portion configured to extend a distance along a face surface of the first exterior treatment and configured to be positioned against the face surface of the first exterior treatment; an upper portion having a back surface and a front surface, said upper portion configured to be positioned against a wall of the building structure with a second exterior treatment extending over said upper portion; and a middle portion having a bottom surface and a top surface, said middle portion positioned between and interconnected to said upper portion and said lower portion of said flashing and configured to be positioned intermediate the first exterior treatment and the second exterior treatment.
- 15. A flashing configured to reduce moisture intrusion in a building structure between a first exterior treatment and a second exterior treatment, the flashing comprising:
a lower portion having a back surface and a front surface, said lower portion configured to extend a distance along a face surface of the first exterior treatment and configured to be positioned against the face surface of the first exterior treatment; an upper portion having a back surface and a front surface, said upper portion configured to be positioned against a wall of the building structure with a second exterior treatment extending over said upper portion; a middle portion having a bottom surface and a top surface, said middle portion positioned between and interconnected to said upper portion and said lower portion of said flashing and configured to be positioned intermediate the first exterior treatment and the second exterior treatment; and a drip flange extending downwardly outward from an end of said lower portion of said flashing to direct moisture received from the second exterior treatment away from the first exterior treatment.
- 16. A means for flashing between two exterior treatments of a building structure for reducing moisture intrusion at an interface between the two exterior treatments, comprising:
flashing means extending between a first exterior treatment and a second exterior treatment for directing moisture away from the second exterior treatment and over a face surface of the first exterior treatment, said flashing means including a portion for positioning against the face surface of the first exterior treatment for reducing moisture intrusion from entering behind said portion of said flashing means.
- 17. A method of forming a flashing configured to be positioned between a first exterior treatment and a second exterior treatment of a building structure, the flashing comprising:
forming a flashing member having a upper portion, a lower portion and a middle portion so that said middle portion is intermediate said lower portion and said upper portion; configuring said middle portion to be positionable between a bottom surface of the second exterior treatment and an upper surface of the first exterior treatment; configuring said upper portion to be positionable between a wall structure of the building structure and the second exterior treatment; and configuring said lower portion with a back surface to be positioned against a lower portion of the first exterior treatment.
- 18. The method of claim 17, further comprising forming a drip flange extending downwardly outward from an end of said lower portion of said flashing member to direct moisture received from the second exterior treatment away from the first exterior treatment.
- 19. The method of claim 17, wherein said configuring said lower portion comprises configuring said lower portion to extend downward a distance configured to reduce moisture intrusion from entering behind said lower portion.
- 20. The method of claim 17, wherein said configuring said lower portion to extend downward said distance comprises sizing said distance of said lower portion to extend at least one-quarter of an inch.
- 21. The method of claim 17, wherein said configuring said middle portion comprises configuring said middle portion to be downwardly sloped toward said lower portion when said upper portion is positioned between the wall and second exterior treatment of the building structure.
- 22. The method of claim 18, wherein said forming said drip flange comprises forming a folded-back portion wrapped around an under-side portion of said drip flange.
- 23. The method of claim 22, wherein said forming said folded-back portion further comprises forming a downward extension extending from an end of said folded-back portion substantially vertically downward.
- 24. The method of claim 23, wherein said forming said downward extension comprises configuring said downward extension to be positioned against a front surface of the first exterior treatment and to extend a distance to reduce moisture intrusion from entering behind said downward extension.
- 25. The method of claim 24, wherein said configuring said downward extension comprises sizing said downward extension to extend at least one-quarter of an inch.
- 26. The method of claim 17, wherein said configuring said middle portion comprises configuring said middle portion to include a downward slope toward said lower portion with a predetermined angle.
- 27. The method of claim 17, wherein said configuring said middle portion comprises configuring said middle portion to include a first slope with a first predetermined angle and a second slope with a second predetermined angle, each of said first slope and said second slope sloping downward toward said lower portion.
- 28. The method of claim 17, wherein said configuring said middle portion comprises configuring said middle portion to be positioned between an upper surface of the first exterior treatment and a bottom surface of the second exterior treatment.
- 29. The method of claim 17, wherein said forming said flashing member comprises forming said flashing member from a metallic material.
- 30. The method of claim 17, wherein said forming said flashing member comprises forming said flashing member from a polymeric resin.
- 31. The method of claim 17, wherein said forming said flashing member comprises forming said flashing member from a metallic material having a polymeric coating.
- 32. A method of installing a flashing between a first exterior treatment and a second exterior treatment of a building structure to direct moisture therefrom, said method comprising:
providing a flashing member including a upper portion, a lower portion and a middle portion so that said middle portion is intermediate said lower portion and said upper portion; and disposing said flashing member at least partially over the first exterior treatment so that said upper portion is positioned against a wall of said building structure and a back surface of said lower portion is positioned against a face surface of the first exterior treatment and said middle portion is positioned over a top portion of the first exterior treatment.
- 33. The method of claim 32, wherein said disposing further comprises disposing said flashing member in preparation to receive the second exterior treatment over said middle portion of said flashing member so that a back surface of the second exterior treatment faces said upper portion of said flashing member and said middle portion of said flashing member is positioned between the first exterior treatment and the second exterior treatment.
- 34. The method of claim 32, wherein said providing said flashing member comprises providing a drip flange extending downwardly outward from an end of said lower portion of said flashing member configured to direct moisture received from the second exterior treatment of the building structure away from the first exterior treatment.
- 35. The method of claim 34, wherein said providing said flashing member comprises providing said drip flange with a folded-back portion wrapped around an under-side portion of said drip flange.
- 36. The method of claim 35, wherein said providing said drip flange with said folded-back portion comprises providing a downward extension configured to extend substantially vertically downward a distance to be positioned against the face surface of the first exterior treatment.
- 37. The method of claim 32, wherein said disposing comprises attaching said upper portion of said flashing member to the wall of the building structure.
- 38. The method of claim 32, wherein said disposing comprises abutting a back surface of said lower portion of said flashing member against the front surface of the exterior treatment.
- 39. A flashing configured to reduce moisture intrusion into a building structure between two exterior treatments, the flashing comprising:
a base portion having a bottom surface and a top surface, said base portion configured to be positioned between an inclined portion of a first exterior treatment and a bottom portion of a second exterior treatment; an upper portion having a back surface and a front surface, said upper portion interconnected to said base portion and configured to be positioned between a wall of the building structure and a second exterior treatment; and a drip flange extending downwardly outward from an end of said base portion to direct moisture away from the second exterior treatment received therefrom.
- 40. The flashing member of claim 39, wherein said drip flange comprises a folded-back portion wrapped around an under-side portion of said drip flange.
- 41. The flashing member of claim 39, wherein said drip flange is positioned over the inclined portion of the first exterior treatment.
- 42. The flashing member of claim 39, wherein a portion of said drip flange is configured to abut with a top surface of the first exterior treatment.
- 43. The flashing member of claim 39, wherein said base portion and said drip flange are configured to be positioned over a top surface of the first exterior treatment.
- 44. The flashing member of claim 39, wherein said flashing member comprises a metallic material.
- 45. The flashing member of claim 39, wherein said flashing member comprises a polymeric material.
- 46. The flashing member of claim 39, further comprising a j-channel portion having a channel portion configured to receive the second exterior treatment, said j-channel portion extending from said upper portion of said flashing and said channel portion disposed above said base portion of said flashing.
- 47. A method of forming a flashing configured to reduce moisture intrusion in a building structure between a first exterior treatment and a second exterior treatment of a building structure, the flashing member comprising:
forming a flashing member having an upper portion and a base portion so that said base portion and said upper portion are interconnected; configuring said base portion to be positionable between an inclined portion of the first exterior treatment and a bottom portion of the second exterior treatment; configuring said upper portion to be positionable between a wall of the building structure and the second exterior treatment; and forming a drip flange extending downwardly outward from an end of said base portion of said flashing member to direct moisture away from the second exterior treatment received therefrom.
- 48. The method of claim 47, wherein said forming said drip flange comprises forming a folded-back portion wrapped around an under-side portion of said drip flange.
- 49. The method of claim 47, wherein said forming said drip flange comprises configuring said drip flange to at least partially abut the inclined portion the first exterior treatment.
- 50. The method of claim 47, wherein said forming said drip flange comprises configuring said drip flange to be positioned over the inclined surface of the first exterior treatment.
- 51. The method of claim 47, wherein said forming said flashing member comprises forming said flashing member from a metallic material.
- 52. The method of claim 47, wherein said forming said flashing member comprises forming said flashing member from a polymeric material.
- 53. The method of claim 47, further comprising forming a j-channel portion having a channel portion, said j-channel portion extending from said upper portion of said flashing member and disposed above said base portion of said flashing member.
- 54. The method of claim 53, wherein said forming said j-channel portion comprises configuring said channel portion to receive the second exterior treatment and configuring said channel portion with weep holes extending therethrough configured to direct moisture from the second exterior treatment to the base portion and drip flange of the flashing member.
- 55. A method of installing a flashing between a first exterior treatment and a second exterior treatment of a building structure to direct moisture therefrom, said method comprising:
providing a flashing member including an upper portion and a base portion so that said base portion interconnects with said upper portion, said flashing member including a drip flange extending downwardly outward from an end of said base portion of said flashing member; and disposing said flashing member at least partially over the first exterior treatment so that said upper portion is positioned against a wall of the building structure and said base portion and said drip flange are positioned over an inclined portion of the first exterior treatment.
- 56. The method of claim 55, wherein said disposing further comprises disposing said flashing member in preparation to receive the second exterior treatment to extend over said upper portion so that said base portion is positioned between an end of the second exterior treatment and the inclined portion of the first exterior treatment.
- 57. The method of claim 55, wherein said disposing said flashing member comprises disposing said drip flange so that said drip flange at least partially abuts the inclined portion of the first exterior treatment.
- 58. The method of claim 55, wherein said providing said flashing member comprises providing said drip flange with a folded-back portion wrapped around an under-side portion of said drip flange.
- 59. The method of claim 55, wherein said disposing comprises attaching said upper portion of said flashing member to the wall of the building structure.
- 60. The method of claim 55, wherein said providing comprises providing said flashing member to include a j-channel portion having a channel portion, said j-channel portion extending from said upper portion of said flashing member and said channel portion disposed above said base portion of said flashing member.
- 61. The method of claim 60, wherein said providing said flashing member with said j-channel portion comprises disposing said flashing member having said j-channel portion in preparation to receive the second exterior treatment disposed in the channel portion.
