Claims
- 1. Flashing for a projecting curved surface, comprising:
a. a metal body having perpendicularly aligned top flange member, intermediate flange member, and a plurality of transversely aligned slits partially extending across said top flange member thereby enabling said top flange member and said intermediate flange member to be bent around a curved surface by adjusting the openings formed between said slits; and, b. flexible flashing material attached over said top flange member surface that covers said slits to create a water barrier.
- 2. The flashing, as recited in claim 1, wherein said slits are shorter in length than the width of said top flange member whereby creating uncut regions on said top flange member.
- 3. The flashing, as recited in claim 1, further including a lower flange member formed on said body on the opposite side of said top flange member.
opposite said slits formed on said lower flange member.
- 4. The flashing, as recited in claim 1, further including a plurality slits formed on said lower flange member that enable said intermediate flange member to be bent around a curved surface.
- 5. The flashing, as recited in claim 1, wherein said flexible flashing material covers the inside surfaces of said top flange member, and said intermediate flange member.
- 6. The flashing, as recited in claim 4, wherein said flexible flashing material covers the inside surfaces of said top flange member, said intermediate flange member, and said lower flange member.
- 7. A method of protecting a curved wall projection, comprising the following steps:
a. selecting a flashing that includes a metal body with a top flange member and a intermediate flange member, said top flange member includng a plurality of slits formed thereon that enable said intermediate flange member to be bent over a curved surface in a direction opposite said top flange member, said flashing including a layer of flexible flashing material bonded over the inside and outside surfaces of said top flange member that covers said slits; b. positioning said top flange surface adjacent to a wall surface perpendicularly aligned with a curved wall projection; c. bending said intermediate flange member over said curved wall projection, said bending movement causing said slits on said top flange member to widen; d. securing the flashing over said curved wall projection; and, e. attaching exterior wall boards over said top flange member to prevent sunlight exposure of said flexible flashing material.
