Claims
- 1. A flashing system configured to reduce moisture intrusion at an exterior molding and wall interface of a building structure, the flashing system comprising:
at least one flashing piece including a flashing portion and a sealing portion, said flashing portion extending transversely with respect to said sealing portion and configured to be positioned against the wall of the building structure and said sealing portion configured to be positioned adjacently along side an outer side surface of the molding to reduce moisture intrusion at the molding and wall interface of the building structure.
- 2. The flashing system of claim 1, further comprising a mold flashing having a front portion and at least one side portion, said front portion including a portion extending transversely with respect to said at least one side portion, said front portion configured to be positioned adjacent a front surface of the molding, said at least one side portion configured to be positioned over said sealing portion so that said sealing portion is configured to be positioned between said at least one side portion and the outer side surface of the molding to reduce moisture from contacting the molding and entering at the molding and wall interface of the building structure.
- 3. The flashing system of claim 2, wherein said at least one side portion comprises a first side portion and a second side portion each extending transversely with respect to said front portion, wherein said first side portion is configured to extend over the outer side surface of the molding and said second side portion is configured to extend over an inner side surface of the molding.
- 4. The flashing system of claim 2, wherein said at least one side portion comprises a folded back portion.
- 5. The flashing system of claim 2, wherein said front portion of said mold flashing comprises at least one bend configured to extend along side at least a portion of the front surface of the molding.
- 6. The flashing system of claim 3, wherein said second side portion of said mold flashing comprises an elongated portion extending from said second side portion and configured to extend at least partially over an inner surface of an opening defined in the building structure.
- 7. The flashing system of claim 3, further comprising a side flashing piece configured to at least partially extend over an inner surface of an opening defined in the building structure and configured at least partially extend under the second side portion and over the second side surface of the molding.
- 8. The flashing system of claim 7, wherein said second side portion of said mold flashing is configured to extend at least partially over said side flashing piece.
- 9. The flashing system of claim 2, wherein said at least one flashing piece comprises a top flashing piece, a first side flashing piece and a second side flashing piece each including said flashing portion and said sealing portion, wherein each flashing portion configured to be positioned against the wall of the building structure and each sealing portion configured to be positioned against the outer side surface of the molding at respective top, first and second sides of an opening defined in the building structure.
- 10. The flashing system of claim 9, wherein said mold flashing is configured to fit over the molding at the respective top, first and second sides of the opening so that said sealing portion of each of said top flashing piece, said first side flashing piece and said second side flashing piece is positioned between said at least one side portion of said mold flashing and the outer side surface of the molding at the respective top, first and second sides of the opening in the building structure.
- 11. The flashing system of claim 1, wherein said flashing portion of said at least one flashing piece extends at least nine inches.
- 12. The flashing system of claim 1, wherein said at least one flashing piece comprises a metallic material.
- 13. The flashing system of claim 1, wherein said at least one flashing piece comprises a polymeric material.
- 14. A flashing system configured to reduce moisture intrusion at an exterior molding and wall interface of a building structure, the flashing system comprising:
at least one flashing piece including a flashing portion and a sealing portion, said flashing portion extending transversely with respect to said sealing portion and configured to be positioned against the wall of the building structure and said sealing portion configured to be positioned adjacently along side an outer side surface of the molding; and a mold flashing having a front portion, a first side portion and a second side portion, said first and second side portions extending transversely with respect to said front portion, said front portion configured to be positioned adjacent a front surface of the molding, said first side portion configured to be positioned over said sealing portion so that said sealing portion is configured to be positioned between said at least one side portion and the outer side surface of the molding and said second side portion configured to be positioned over an inner side surface of the molding to substantially exclude moisture from contacting the molding and entering into the molding and wall interface.
- 15. A flashing system configured to reduce moisture intrusion at an exterior molding and wall interface of a building structure and positioned at a periphery of an opening in a building structure, the flashing system comprising:
a top side flashing piece including a top flashing portion and a top sealing portion, said top flashing portion extending transversely with respect to said top sealing portion and configured to be positioned against the wall of the building structure and said top sealing portion configured to be positioned adjacently along side a top outer side surface of the molding at a top side of the opening in the building structure; a first side flashing piece including a first flashing portion and a first sealing portion, said first flashing portion extending transversely with respect to said first sealing portion and configured to be positioned against the wall of the building structure and said first sealing portion configured to be positioned adjacently along side a first outer side surface of the molding at a first side of the opening in the building structure; a second side flashing piece including a second flashing portion and a second sealing portion, said second flashing portion extending transversely with respect to said second sealing portion and configured to be positioned against the wall of the building structure and said second sealing portion configured to be positioned adjacently along side a second outer side surface of the molding at a second side of the opening in the building structure; and a mold flashing having a front portion, a first side portion and a second side portion, said first side portion and said second side portion extending transversely with respect to said front portion, said mold flashing configured to be positioned over the molding disposed at each of the respective top, first and second sides of the opening in the building structure to substantially exclude moisture from contacting the molding and entering the molding and wall interface of the building structure, wherein said front portion of said mold flashing configured to be positioned adjacent a front surface of the molding at each of the respective top, first and second sides of the opening, wherein said first side portion of said mold flashing is configured to be positioned over each of said top sealing portion, said first sealing portion and said second sealing portion so that said top sealing portion, said first sealing portion and said second sealing portion is configured to be positioned between said first side portion of said mold flashing and a respective one of the top outer side surface, the first outer side surface and the second outer side surface of the molding at the respective top, first and second sides of the opening, and wherein said second side portion of said mold flashing is configured to be positioned over each of a top inner side surface, a first inner side surface and a second inner side surface of the molding at the respective top, first and second sides of the opening in the building structure.
- 16. A means for flashing an exterior molding and wall interface of a building structure for reducing moisture intrusion at the molding and wall interface, comprising:
a flashing means for flashing a portion of a wall adjacent the molding and for flashing an outer side surface of the molding; and a mold flashing means for substantially covering the molding and overlapping a portion of said flashing means at the outer side surface of the molding, said flashing means and said mold flashing means cooperating to reduce moisture intrusion at the molding and wall interface of the building structure.
- 17. A flashing member configured to reduce moisture intrusion at an exterior molding and wall interface of a building structure, the flashing member comprising:
a mold flashing portion having a front portion, a first side portion and a second side portion, said mold flashing portion configured to fit over the molding, said first side portion and said second side portion extending transversely from said front portion; a flashing portion extending transversely from said first side portion and configured to be positioned against a wall of the building structure adjacent the molding; and an inner flashing portion extending from said second side portion configured to extend at least partially over an inner surface of an opening in the building structure.
- 18. A method of forming a flashing system configured to reduce moisture intrusion at an exterior molding and wall interface of a building structure, the method comprising:
forming at least one flashing piece having a flashing portion and a sealing portion so that said at least one flashing piece extends transversely with respect to said sealing portion; configuring said flashing portion to be positioned against a wall of the building structure; and configuring said sealing portion to be positioned adjacently along side an outer side surface of the molding.
- 19. The method of claim 18, further comprising:
forming a mold flashing having a front portion and at least one side portion so that said at least one side portion extends transversely with respect to said front portion; configuring said front portion to be positioned adjacent a front surface of the molding; and configuring said at least one side portion to be positioned along side said sealing portion so that said sealing portion is positioned between said at least one side portion and the outer side surface of the molding.
- 20. The method of claim 19, wherein said forming said mold flashing comprises forming said at least one side portion to include a first side portion and a second side portion each extending transversely with respect to said front portion.
- 21. The method of claim 20, wherein said forming said at least one side portion comprises:
configuring said first side portion to extend over the outer side surface of the molding; and configuring said second side portion to extend over an inner side surface of the molding.
- 22. The method of claim 19, wherein said forming said mold flashing comprises forming said at least one side portion to include a folded back portion at an end thereof.
- 23. The method of claim 19, wherein said configuring said front portion comprises configuring said front portion to include at least one bend to extend along side at least a portion of the front surface of the molding.
- 24. The method of claim 20, wherein said forming said at least one side portion comprises forming said second side portion of said mold flashing to include an elongated portion extending from said second side portion.
- 25. The method of claim 24, wherein said forming said second side portion comprises configuring said elongated portion to extend at least partially over an inner surface defined in an opening in the building structure.
- 26. The method of claim 20, further comprising forming a side flashing piece configured to at least partially extend over an inner surface defined in an opening of the building structure and at least partially extend over the second side surface of the molding.
- 27. The method of claim 26, wherein said forming said side flashing piece comprises configuring said side flashing piece to be positioned over the inner surface defined in the opening so that said second side portion of said mold flashing extends at least partially over said side flashing piece.
- 28. The method of claim 19, wherein said forming said at least one flashing piece comprises forming a top flashing piece, a first side flashing piece and a second side flashing piece each including said flashing portion and said sealing portion.
- 29. The method of claim 28, wherein said forming said top flashing piece, said first side flashing piece and said second side flashing piece comprises:
configuring said flashing portion of each of said top flashing piece, said first side flashing piece and said second side flashing piece to abut with the wall of the building structure; and configuring said sealing portion of each of said top flashing piece, said first side flashing piece and said second side flashing piece to abut with the outer side surface of the molding at respective top, first and second sides of an opening defined in the building structure.
- 30. The method of claim 29, wherein said forming said mold flashing comprises configured said mold flashing to fit over the molding at the respective top, first and second sides of the opening so that said sealing portion of each of said top flashing piece, said first side flashing piece and said second side flashing piece is positioned between said at least one side portion of said mold flashing and a the outer side surface of the molding at the respective top, first and second sides of the opening.
- 31. A method of installing a flashing system configured to reduce moisture intrusion at an exterior molding and wall interface of a building structure, the method comprising:
providing at least one flashing piece including a flashing portion and a sealing portion, said flashing portion extending transversely with respect to said sealing portion; providing a mold flashing having a front portion and at least one side portion, said at least one side portion extending transversely with respect to said front portion; disposing said at least one flashing piece proximate the molding so that said flashing portion is positioned against the wall and said sealing portion is positioned adjacently along side an outer side surface of the molding; and disposing said mold flashing over the molding so that said front portion is positioned over a front surface of the molding and said at least one side portion is positioned along side said sealing portion so that said sealing portion is positioned between said at least one side portion and the outer side surface of the molding so that said at least one flashing piece and said mold flashing cooperates to reduce moisture intrusion from entering the molding and wall interface of the building structure.
- 32. The method of claim 31, wherein said providing said mold flashing comprises providing said at least one side portion to include a first side portion and a second side portion each extending transversely with respect to said front portion.
- 33. The method of claim 32, wherein said disposing said mold flashing comprises positioning said mold flashing so that said second side portion is positioned over an inner side surface of the molding.
- 34. The method of claim 31, wherein said providing said mold flashing comprises providing said second side portion of said mold flashing to include an elongated portion extending from said second side portion.
- 35. The method of claim 34, wherein said disposing said mold flashing comprises positioning said elongated portion to at least partially extend over an inner surface defined in an opening of the building structure.
- 36. The method of claim 32, further comprising providing a side flashing piece configured to at least partially extend over an inner surface defined in an opening of the building structure.
- 37. The method of claim 36, further comprising positioning said side flashing piece to at least partially extend over the inner surface defined in the opening and at least partially extend over an inner side surface of the molding.
- 38. The method of claim 37, wherein said disposing said mold flashing comprises positioning said mold flashing over said molding so that said second side portion extends at least partially over a portion of said side flashing piece.
- 39. The method of claim 31, wherein said providing said at least one flashing piece comprises providing a top flashing piece, a first side flashing piece and a second side flashing piece each including said flashing portion and said sealing portion.
- 40. The method of claim 39, wherein said disposing said at least one flashing piece comprises:
positioning said flashing portion of each of said top flashing piece, said first side flashing piece and said second side flashing piece to abut with the wall of the building structure; and positioning said sealing portion of each of said top flashing piece, said first side flashing piece and said second side flashing piece to be positioned against the outer side surface of the molding at respective top, first and second sides of the opening of the building structure.
- 41. The method of claim 40, wherein said disposing said mold flashing comprises disposing said mold flashing over the molding at the respective top, first and second sides of the opening so that said sealing portion of each of said top flashing piece, said first side flashing piece and said second side flashing piece is positioned between said at least one side portion of said mold flashing and the outer side surface of the molding at the respective top, first and second sides of the opening.
- 42. A flashing member configured for substantially protecting a pre-existing exterior molding of a building structure from moisture and to reduce moisture intrusion at an exterior treatment and molding interface, the flashing member comprising:
a mold flashing having a front portion and a side portion, said front portion at least partially extending transversely with respect to said side portion, said front portion configured to be positioned adjacent a front surface of the molding, and said side portion configured to be positioned along side an inner side surface of the molding, wherein said front portion includes a barrier portion extending from an end of said front portion and configured to extend over a portion of the exterior treatment positioned adjacent the molding to reduce moisture intrusion from entering a gap between the exterior treatment and the molding.
- 43. The flashing member of claim 42, wherein said front portion comprises at least one bend configured to substantially extend along side at least a portion of the front surface of the molding.
- 44. The flashing member of claim 42, wherein an end portion of said extension portion and an end portion of said side portion include folded-back portions configured to strengthen said mold flashing.
- 45. The flashing member of claim 42, wherein said mold flashing comprises a top mold flashing, a first side mold flashing and a second side mold flashing each sized and configured to be positioned over molding at respective top, first and second sides of an opening in the building structure.
- 46. A flashing member configured for substantially protecting a pre-existing exterior molding of a building structure from moisture and to reduce moisture intrusion at an exterior treatment and molding interface, the flashing member comprising:
a mold flashing having a front portion and a side portion, said front portion at least partially extending transversely with respect to said side portion, said front portion having at least one bend configured to substantially mimic a front surface of the molding so that said front portion is positionable adjacent the front surface of the molding, and said side portion is positionable along side an inner side surface of the molding, wherein said front portion includes a barrier portion extending from an end of said front portion and configured to extend over a portion of the exterior treatment positioned adjacent the molding to reduce moisture intrusion from entering a gap between the exterior treatment and the molding.
- 47. A flashing member configured for substantially protecting a pre-existing exterior molding of a building structure from moisture and to reduce moisture intrusion at an exterior treatment and molding interface, the flashing member comprising:
a mold flashing having a front portion and a side portion, said front portion at least partially extending transversely with respect to said side portion, said front portion having at least one bend configured to substantially mimic a front surface of the molding so that said front portion is positionable adjacent the front surface of the molding, and said side portion positionable along side an inner side surface of the molding, said mold flashing configured to be positioned over molding at each of a top, first and second side of an opening of the building structure, wherein said front portion includes a barrier portion extending from an end of said front portion and configured to extend over a portion of the exterior treatment positioned adjacent the molding to reduce moisture intrusion from entering a gap between the exterior treatment and the molding at each of the top, first and second side of the opening of the building structure.
- 48. A means for flashing a pre-existing exterior molding of a building structure, comprising:
mold flashing means for substantially protecting the pre-existing exterior molding from moisture; and barrier means extending from said mold flashing means, said barrier means extending over a portion of an exterior treatment positioned adjacent the molding to reduce moisture intrusion from entering a gap between the exterior treatment and the molding.
- 49. A method of forming a flashing member configured for substantially protecting a pre-existing exterior molding of a building structure from moisture and to reduce moisture intrusion at an exterior treatment and molding interface, the method comprising:
forming a mold flashing having a front portion and a side portion, said front portion extending transversely with respect to said front portion; forming a barrier portion extending from an end of said front portion; configuring said front portion to be positioned adjacent a front surface of the molding; configuring said side portion to be positioned along side an inner side surface of the molding; and configuring said barrier portion to extend over a portion of the exterior treatment positioned adjacent the molding to reduce moisture intrusion from entering a gap between the exterior treatment and the molding.
- 50. The method of claim 49, wherein said forming said mold flashing comprises forming said font portion with at least one bend configured to substantially extend along side at least a portion of the front surface of the molding.
- 51. The method of claim 49, wherein said forming said mold flashing comprises forming folded-back portions at said end portion of said barrier portion and an end portion of said side portion.
- 52. A method of flashing a pre-existing exterior molding at a periphery of an opening in a building structure configured to reduce moisture intrusion at an exterior treatment and molding interface of the building structure, the method comprising:
providing a mold flashing having a front portion, a side portion and a barrier portion, said front portion extending transversely with respect to said side portion, said barrier portion extending from an end of said front portion; disposing said mold flashing to the molding so that said front portion is configured to be positioned adjacent a front surface of the molding and said side portion is configured to be positioned along side an inner side surface of the molding; and positioning said mold flashing to the molding so that said barrier portion extends over a portion of an exterior treatment positioned adjacent the molding to reduce moisture intrusion from entering a gap between the exterior treatment and the molding.
- 53. The method of claim 52, wherein said disposing comprises disposing said mold flashing to the molding at each of a top, first and second side of the opening in the building structure.
- 54. The method of claim 52, further comprising securing said mold flashing to the molding.
- 55. The method of claim 54, wherein said securing comprises securing said mold flashing with at least one of fasteners and an adhesive.
