Claims
- 1. A high performance cable assembly comprising:
- a plurality of subassemblies;
- each of said plurality of subassemblies comprising a housing having a cable with solid wire conductors for transmitting high speed signals, said solid wire connectors having ball shaped contacts for a cable connector interface and wherein the solid wire conductors in the cable are exposed to form the ball shaped contacts and plated with a diffusion barrier to provide a low resistance contact surface, and a plurality of said exposed solid wire connectors are formed at an angle to allow the contacts to wipe against a contact pad on a mating printed circuit board.
- 2. The high performance cable assembly of claim 1, wherein the end of each cable with solid wire conductors has exposed solid wire conductors embedded in an elastomer material and the ball shaped contacts on the ends of the solid wire conductors are partially embedded in the elastomer material.
- 3. The high performance cable assembly of claim 1, wherein each cable with solid wire conductors is a ribbon cable.
- 4. The high performance cable assembly of claim 1, wherein said diffusion barriers are formed of nickel and hard gold.
- 5. The high performance cable assembly of claim 1, wherein said plurality of subassemblies are stacked together to form a complete cable assembly with a like plurality of housings for each of the subassemblies each having cables with solid wire conductors with ball shaped contacts for their cable connector interfaces.
