Claims
- 1. A flexible composite, comprising:
a woven ply comprising a non-orthogonal orientation; wherein the woven ply is individually stabilized by a stabilizing agent; and wherein the flexible composite is configured to be a component of a flexible assembly.
- 2. The flexible composite of claim 1, wherein the stabilizing agent comprises a material selected from a group consisting of a silicone rubber, a urethane rubber, a urethane, a polyurethane, a polyvinyl chloride, a polyvinylidene chloride, a polyvinyl alcohol, a fluoropolymer, and combinations thereof.
- 3. The flexible composite of claim 1, wherein the flexible composite further comprises a second woven ply.
- 4. The flexible composite of claim 3, wherein the woven ply comprises a positive non-orthogonal orientation and the second woven ply comprises a negative non-orthogonal orientation.
- 5. The flexible composite of claim 3, further comprising a third woven ply.
- 6. The flexible composite of claim 5, wherein the woven ply comprises a positive non-orthogonal orientation, the second woven ply comprises a negative non-orthogonal orientation, and the third woven ply comprises an orthogonal orientation.
- 7. The flexible composite of claim 1, further comprising a protective film.
- 8. The flexible composite of claim 1, wherein the flexible assembly is a radome cover.
- 9. The flexible composite of claim 8, wherein the flexible composite further comprises a second woven ply.
- 10. The flexible composite of claim 9, wherein the woven ply comprises a positive non-orthogonal orientation and the second woven ply comprises a negative non-orthogonal orientation.
- 11. The flexible composite of claim 9, wherein the radome cover has a tri-axial configuration.
- 12. The flexible composite of claim 9, further comprising a third woven ply comprising an orthogonal orientation.
- 13. The flexible composite of claim 8, wherein the radome cover comprises a trapezoidal tear strength of at least about 300 pounds.
- 14. The flexible composite of claim 8, wherein the radome cover is configured to have good RF performance at multiple frequencies.
- 15. The flexible composite of claim 8, wherein the radome cover is configured to be air-supported.
- 16. The flexible composite of claim 1, wherein the flexible assembly is a belt.
- 17. The flexible composite of claim 16, wherein the flexible composite further comprises a second woven ply.
- 18. The flexible composite of claim 17, wherein the woven ply comprises a positive non-orthogonal orientation and the second woven ply comprises a negative non-orthogonal orientation.
- 19. The flexible composite of claim 18, further comprising a third woven ply comprising an orthogonal orientation.
- 20. The flexible composite of claim 19, further comprising a fourth woven ply comprising an orthogonal orientation.
- 21. The flexible composite of claim 16, wherein the belt further comprises flights extending from a face of the flexible composite.
- 22. The flexible composite of claim 16, wherein the belt is an open weave belt.
- 23. The flexible composite of claim 1, wherein the flexible assembly is an architectural fabric.
- 24. The flexible composite of claim 22, further comprising a second woven ply.
- 25. The flexible composite of claim 23, wherein the woven ply comprises a positive non-orthogonal orientation and the second woven ply comprises a negative non-orthogonal orientation.
- 26. The flexible composite of claim 23, further comprising a third woven ply.
- 27. The flexible composite of claim 22, wherein the architectural fabric comprises at least one of a flexible roof fabric comprising the flexible composite and a skylight comprising the flexible composite.
- 28. The flexible composite of claim 26, further comprising a second woven ply.
- 29. The flexible composite of claim 27, wherein the woven ply comprises a positive non-orthogonal orientation and the second woven ply comprises a negative non-orthogonal orientation.
- 30. The flexible composite of claim 28, further comprising a third woven ply comprising an orthogonal orientation.
- 31. The flexible composite of claim 29, wherein the flexible composite is translucent.
- 32. The flexible composite of claim 1, wherein the flexible assembly is an expansion joint.
- 33. The flexible composite of claim 31, further comprising a second woven ply.
- 34. The flexible composite of claim 32, wherein the woven ply comprises a positive non-orthogonal orientation and the second woven ply comprises a negative non-orthogonal orientation.
- 35. The flexible composite of claim 33, further comprising a third woven ply comprising an orthogonal orientation.
- 36. The flexible composite of claim 34, further comprising a fluoropolymer film disposed on an interior face of the flexible composite.
- 37. An assembly comprising:
a flexible article including a woven ply, the woven ply comprising a non-orthogonal orientation; wherein the flexible article is selected from a group consisting of a radome cover, a belt, an architectural fabric, and an expansion joint.
- 38. The assembly of claim 37, further comprising a second woven ply.
- 39. The assembly of claim 38, wherein the woven ply comprises a positive non-orthogonal orientation and the second woven ply comprises a negative non-orthogonal orientation.
- 40. The assembly of claim 39, further comprising a third woven ply comprising an orthogonal orientation.
- 41. The assembly of claim 37, wherein the flexible article is a radome cover.
- 42. The assembly of claim 41, wherein the flexible composite further comprises a second woven ply.
- 43. The assembly of claim 42, wherein the woven ply comprises a positive non-orthogonal orientation and the second woven ply comprises a negative non-orthogonal orientation.
- 44. The assembly of claim 42, wherein the radome cover has a tri-axial configuration.
- 45. The assembly of claim 42, further comprising a third woven ply.
- 46. The assembly of claim 41, wherein the radome cover comprises a trapezoidal tear strength of at least about 300 lbs.
- 47. The assembly of claim 41, wherein the radome cover is configured to be air-supported.
- 48. The assembly of claim 37, wherein the flexible article is a belt.
- 49. The assembly of claim 48, wherein the flexible composite further comprises a second woven ply.
- 50. The assembly of claim 49, wherein the woven ply comprises a positive non-orthogonal orientation and the second woven ply comprises a negative non-orthogonal orientation.
- 51. The assembly of claim 50, further comprising a third woven ply comprising an orthogonal orientation.
- 52. The assembly of claim 51, further comprising a fourth woven ply comprising an orthogonal orientation.
- 53. The assembly of claim 48, wherein the belt further comprises flights extending from a face of the belt.
- 54. The assembly of claim 37, wherein the flexible article is at least one of an architectural roof fabric and a skylight.
- 55. The assembly of claim 54, further comprising a second woven ply.
- 56. The assembly of claim 55, wherein the woven ply comprises a positive non-orthogonal orientation and the second woven ply comprises a negative non-orthogonal orientation.
- 57. The assembly of claim 55, further comprising a third woven ply.
- 58. The assembly of claim 55, wherein the flexible composite is translucent.
- 59. The assembly of claim 37, wherein the flexible article is an expansion joint.
- 60. The assembly of claim 59, further comprising a second woven ply.
- 61. The assembly of claim 60, wherein the woven ply comprises a positive non-orthogonal orientation and the second woven ply comprises a negative non-orthogonal orientation.
- 62. The assembly of claim 61, further comprising a third woven ply comprising an orthogonal orientation.
- 63. The assembly of claim 59, further comprising a fluoropolymer film disposed on an interior face of the expansion joint.
- 64. A flexible roof fabric, comprising:
a first woven ply; and a second woven ply; wherein the first woven ply and the second woven ply of the flexible roof fabric are integrally coupled.
- 65. The flexible roof fabric of claim 64, further comprising a protective film.
- 66. The flexible roof fabric of claim 64, wherein the flexible roof fabric is translucent.
- 67. The flexible roof fabric of claim 64, wherein the first woven ply comprises a positive non-orthogonal orientation, and the second woven ply comprises a negative non-orthogonal orientation.
- 68. The flexible roof fabric of claim 64, further comprising a third woven ply.
- 69. The flexible roof fabric of claim 68, wherein the first woven ply comprises a positive non-orthogonal orientation, the second woven ply comprises a negative non-orthogonal orientation, and the third woven ply comprises an orthogonal orientation.
- 70. A flexible radome cover, comprising:
a first ply; and a second ply; wherein the flexible radome cover has a trapezoidal tear strength of at least about 400 pounds.
- 71. The radome cover of claim 70, wherein the flexible radome cover has a trapezoidal tear strength of at least about 400 pounds in at least three directions.
- 72. The flexible radome cover of claim 70, further comprising a protective film.
- 73. The flexible radome cover of claim 70, wherein the flexible radome cover is configured to be air-supported.
- 74. The flexible radome cover of claim 72, wherein the first woven ply comprises a positive non-orthogonal orientation, and the second woven ply comprises a negative non-orthogonal orientation.
- 75. The radome cover of claim 70, wherein the flexible radome cover has a trapezoidal tear strength of at least about 400 pounds in at least four directions.
