Claims
- 1. A method for providing a finished edge to a work surface, comprising the steps of:
- forming a carrier means for connection to an edge of said work surface to be finished, said carrier means having an outer surface of predetermined shape;
- covering said outer surface with a shape-conforming layer of padding, said padding including a longitudinally extending bead portion extending rearwardly from said carrier means;
- forming a longitudinally extending notch in said edge to be finished; and
- inserting said bead portion into said notch and connecting said carrier means to said edge whereby said bead portion is securely held in said notch between said carrier and said edge to be finished.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein said carrier means are formed having a first rearwardly extending flange for co-insertion into said notch with said bead portion.
- 3. The method of claim 2 wherein said carrier means are formed with a second rearwardly extending flange for connection to another surface of said finished edge, said first and second flanges cooperating to provide a load resistant connection between said carrier means and said work surface.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein said padding is connected to said carrier means for shape-conforming contact with said outer surface thereof, said connection comprising the steps of forming enlarged edges along laterally opposite edges of said padding to extend longitudinally thereof, and inserting said enlarged edges into respective, cooperatively-shaped spaced apart longitudinally extending indentations in said carrier means.
- 5. The method of claim 4 wherein said bead portion is formed contiguously with one of said enlarged edges on said padding so that said edge, in transverse cross section, is substantially T-shaped so that said enlarged edge is captured between the respective longitudinal indentation in said carrier means and said notch when said carrier means are connected to said work surface, thereby preventing said padding from separating from said carrier means when subjected to load.
- 6. The method of claim 1 including the additional step of forming one or more transversely extending cuts through said carrier means from a rearmost edge thereof towards said outer surface and bending said carrier means to conform to a curvature in the edge of said work surface to be finished.
- 7. The method of claim 3 wherein said carrier means are connected to said edge to be finished by means of fasteners extending through said second flange into said another surface of said work surface.
