- 4. The shape-sustaining support member of claim 3 wherein the upper end of the sheet of flexible material has a substantially centrally disposed recess formed therein and wherein the first end portio, the second end portion and the lower end of the sheet of flexible material are provided with an arcuate shape such that upon connecting the first end portion of the sheet of flexible material to the second end portion of the sheet of flexible material the shape-sustaining support member so formed had a frusto conical configuration.
- 5. The shape-sustaining support member of claim 4 wherein the means for connecting the first end portion of the sheet of flexible material to the second end portion of the sheet of flexible material comprises:
at least one male connector disposed in one of the first end portion of the sheet of flexible material; and at least one female connector disposed in the second end portion of the sheet of flexible material such that the female connector is adapted to matingly receive the male connector for connecting the first and second end portions of the flexible sheet of material.
- 6. The shape-sustaining of claim 4 wherein the male connector comprises a plurality of button members spatially disposed along the first end portion of the sheet of flexible material and wherein the female connector comprises a plurality of apertures spatially disposed alone the second end portion of the sheet of flexible material such that at least a portion of the apertures are adapted to matingly receive the button members for connecting the first and second end portions of the flexible sheet of material.
- 7. The shape-sustaining support member of claim 3 wherein the sheet of flexible, shape-sustaining material is further characterized as having an upper surface and a lower surface and wherein the means for connecting the first end portion of the sheet of flexible material to the second end portion of the sheet of flexible comprises bonding means disposed on at least a portion of one of the upper and lower surfaces of the sheet of flexible material for bondingly connecting the first end portion of the sheet of flexible material to the second end portion of the sheet of flexible material to form the shape-sustaining support member.
- 8. A decorative assembly for transporting flowers having a stem portion and a bloom portion, the decorative assembly adapted to receive and maintain a liquid about the stem portion of the flowers during transportation and display of the flowers, the decorative assembly comprising:
a preformed shape-sustaining support member having an open upper end, an open lower end and a peripheral sidewall defining an internal chamber extending between the open upper end and the open lower end of the shape-sustaining support member; means for selectively reducing the circumference of the shape-sustaining member and thereby selectively reduce the diameter of the open upper end and the open lower end; a sheet of fluid impermeable material disposed about the shape-sustaining support member so as to provide a decorative cover which extends about the shape-sustaining support member, the sheet of fluid impermeable material being sized such that when the decorative cover is formed about the shape-sustaining support member from the sheet of fluid impermeable material a portion of the decorative cover extends a distance above the open upper end of the shape-sustaining support member, the decorative cover formed from the sheet of fluid impermeable material cooperating with the shape-sustaining support member to define a reservoir for confining liquid when same is disposed about the stem portion of flowers supported within the internal cavity of the shape-sustaining support member; and means for securing the decorative cover about the shape-sustaining support member while maintaining at least a portion of the open upper end and the internal chamber of the shape-sustaining support member substantially uncovered by the decorative cover.
