Claims
- 1. A decorative assembly for a floral grouping, comprising:
- a container comprising:
- a porous self-supporting holding material having an upper end, a lower end, and an outer peripheral surface extending between the upper end and the lower end, the holding material for receiving and displaying the floral grouping without a pot means, and
- an external surface layer covering the lower end and outer peripheral surface of the container and integral thereto, the external surface layer having the property of being impermeable to an irrigant introduced into the porous self-supporting holding material, the external surface layer serving to retain the irrigant within the holding material for growth or maintenance of the botanical item growing or displayed therein;
- a sheet of material disposed about the container to form a decorative cover, the sheet of material having an upper surface, a lower surface and an outer periphery, the upper surface of the sheet of material being disposed adjacent a portion of the external surface layer of the container and the sheet of material extending about a portion of the external surface layer of the container and leaving uncovered a portion of the holding material near the upper end of the container; and
- bonding means for bonding the sheet of material to a portion of the external surface layer of the container.
- 2. The decorative assembly of claim 1 wherein the bonding means further comprises a bonding material disposed on the upper surface of the sheet of material for bondingly engaging portions of the external surface layer of the container for cooperating to hold the sheet of material in position extended about the external surface layer of the container.
- 3. The decorative assembly of claim 1 wherein the means for bonding the sheet of material is defined further as comprising:
- a band disposed about the sheet of material near the outer periphery of the sheet of material for pulling the sheet of material inwardly toward a central portion of the holding material.
- 4. The decorative assembly of claim 2 wherein the bonding material is further defined as being disposed on the sheet of material for engaging portions of the external surface layer of the container near the upper end of the container and bondingly connecting portions of the sheet of material to the external surface layer of the container for cooperating to hold the sheet of material in position extended about the container to provide the decorative cover.
- 5. The decorative assembly of claim 2 wherein the bonding material is further defined as being disposed on the sheet of material and positioned thereon to engage a portion of the external surface layer of the container near the lower end of the container for bondingly connecting a portion of the sheet of material to the external surface layer thereby cooperating to hold the sheet of material in position extended about the container to provide the decorative cover.
- 6. The decorative assembly of claim 1 wherein the sheet of material is defined further as being constructed of a material selected from a group of materials consisting of paper, metal foil, cloth (natural or synthetic), denim, burlap or polymer film or combinations thereof.
- 7. The decorative assembly of claim 6 wherein the sheet of material is defined further as having a thickness in a range from less than about 0.1 mils to about 30 mils.
- 8. The decorative assembly of claim 1 wherein the sheet of material is defined further as being a non-shaped sustaining material.
- 9. The decorative assembly of claim 1 wherein the holding material further comprises a cavity which extends from the upper end of the holding material a distance into the holding material the distance approaching but not reaching the lower end of the holding material.
- 10. The decorative assembly of claim 9 wherein the container further comprises fertilizing means disposed within the cavity of the holding material.
- 11. The decorative assembly of claim 1 further comprising support means for providing additional support and reinforcement to the holding material.
- 12. The decorative assembly of claim 11 wherein the support means is disposed within the holding material.
- 13. The decorative assembly of claim 11 wherein the support means is disposed at the interface between the outer peripheral surface of the holding material and the external surface layer.
- 14. The decorative assembly of claim 1 wherein the container further comprises irrigation means for irrigating the holding material.
- 15. The decorative assembly of claim 14 wherein the irrigation means further comprises a tube inserted into the holding material.
- 16. The decorative assembly of claim 14 wherein the irrigation means further comprises a channel within the holding material.
- 17. The decorative assembly of claim 1 wherein the container further comprises fertilizing means disposed within the holding material.
- 18. The decorative assembly of claim 9 wherein the cavity is adapted to receive a second container having a botanical item or propagule disposed therein.
- 19. The decorative assembly of claim 1 wherein the external surface layer further comprises a lacquer composition applied to the outer peripheral surface and lower end of the holding material.
- 20. The decorative assembly of claim 1 wherein the external surface layer further comprises a glazed layer formed by using glazing means to glaze the outer peripheral surface and the lower end of the holding material.
- 21. The decorative assembly of claim 1 wherein the bonding means further comprises a bonding material disposed upon a portion of the outer peripheral surface of the holding material.
- 22. A decorative assembly, comprising:
- a container comprising:
- a porous self-supporting holding material having an upper end, a lower end, and an outer peripheral surface extending between the upper end and the lower end, the holding material constructed of a material for receiving a portion of a floral grouping and supporting the floral grouping without a pot means, and
- an external surface layer covering the lower end and outer peripheral surface of the holding material and integral thereto, the external surface layer having the property of being substantially impermeable to an irrigant introduced into the porous self-supporting holding material, the external surface layer serving to retain the irrigant within the holding material;
- a floral grouping having a bloom end and a stem end, the stem end of the floral grouping being disposed in the holding material and the holding material supporting the floral grouping with a portion of the floral grouping near the bloom end thereof extending a distance upwardly beyond the upper end of the holding material; and
- a sheet of material disposed about the container to form a decorative cover, the sheet of material having an upper surface, a lower surface and an outer periphery, the upper surface of the sheet of material being disposed adjacent a portion of the external surface layer of the container and the sheet of material extending about a portion of the external surface layer of the container and leaving uncovered a portion of the holding material near the upper end thereof, the floral grouping extending upwardly beyond the upper end of the holding material and above the sheet of material.
- 23. The decorative assembly of claim 22 further comprising bonding means for bonding the sheet of material to a portion of the external surface layer of the container.
- 24. The decorative assembly of claim 23 wherein the bonding means further comprises a bonding material disposed on the upper surface of the sheet of material for bondingly engaging portions of the external surface layer of the container for cooperating to hold the sheet of material in position extended about the external surface layer of the container.
- 25. The decorative assembly of claim 2 further comprising bonding means for forming a crimped portion in the sheet of material with the crimped portion cooperating to hold the sheet of material in the position extended about the container.
- 26. The decorative assembly of claim 25 wherein the crimped portion is defined further as being disposed near the upper end of the container.
- 27. The decorative assembly of claim 25 wherein the crimped portion is defined further as being disposed above the upper end of the container.
- 28. The decorative assembly of claim 25 wherein the crimped portion is defined further as being disposed above the upper end of the holding material, with the crimped portion extending the distance radially inwardly toward a central portion of the holding material and the crimped portion extending circumferentially about the upper end of the holding material.
- 29. The decorative assembly of claim 25 wherein the means for forming the crimped portion is defined further as comprising:
- a band disposed about the sheet of material near the outer periphery of the sheet of material for pulling the sheet of material inwardly toward a central portion of the holding material and forming the crimped portion in the sheet of material.
- 30. The decorative assembly of claim 25 wherein the bonding means further comprises a closure bonding material disposed on the sheet of material with the portions of the sheet of material near the closure bonding material being crimped together and forming at least one overlapping fold in the sheet of material with the overlapping fold being substantially bonded via the closure bonding material to form the crimped portion.
- 31. The decorative assembly of claim 24 wherein the bonding material is further defined as being disposed on the sheet of material for engaging portions of the external surface layer of the holding material near the upper end of the container and bondingly connecting portions of the sheet of material to the external surface layer of the container for cooperating to hold the sheet of material in position extended about the container to provide the decorative cover.
- 32. The decorative assembly of claim 24 wherein the bonding material is further defined as being disposed on the sheet of material and positioned thereon to engage a portion of the external surface layer of the container near the lower end of the container for bondingly connecting a portion of the sheet of material to the external surface layer thereby cooperating to hold the sheet of material in position extended about the container to provide the decorative cover.
- 33. The decorative assembly of claim 22 wherein the floral holding material is defined further as receiving a portion of the floral grouping and supporting the floral grouping in a position extending a distance above the upper end of the holding material.
- 34. The decorative assembly of claim 22 wherein the sheet of material is defined further as being constructed of a material selected from a group of materials consisting of paper, metal foil, cloth (natural or synthetic), denim, burlap or polymer film or combinations thereof.
- 35. The decorative assembly of claim 34 wherein the sheet of material is defined further as having a thickness in a range from less than about 0.1 mils to about 30 mils.
- 36. The decorative assembly of claim 22 wherein the sheet of material is defined further as being a non-shape sustaining material.
- 37. The decorative assembly of claim 22 wherein the holding material further comprises a cavity which extends from the upper end of the holding material a distance into the holding material the distance approaching but not reaching the lower end of the holding material.
- 38. The decorative assembly of claim 37 wherein the container further comprises fertilizing means disposed within the cavity of the holding material.
- 39. The container of claim 22 further comprising support means for providing additional support and reinforcement to the holding material.
- 40. The container of claim 39 wherein the support means is disposed within the holding material.
- 41. The container of claim 39 wherein the support means is disposed at the interface between the outer peripheral surface of the holding material and the external surface layer.
- 42. The container of claim 22 wherein the container further comprises irrigation means for irrigating the holding material.
- 43. The container of claim 42 wherein the irrigation means further comprises a tube inserted into the holding material.
- 44. The container of claim 42 wherein the irrigation means further comprises a channel within the holding material.
- 45. The container of claim 22 wherein the container further comprises fertilizing means disposed within the holding material.
- 46. The container of claim 37 wherein the cavity is adapted to receive a second container having a botanical item or propagule disposed therein.
- 47. The container of claim 22 wherein the external surface layer further comprises a lacquer composition applied to the outer peripheral surface and lower end of the holding material.
- 48. The container of claim 22 wherein the external surface layer further comprises a glazed layer formed by using glazing means to glaze the outer peripheral surface and the lower end of the holding material.
- 49. The decorative assembly of claim 23 wherein the bonding means further comprises a bonding material disposed upon a portion of the outer peripheral surface of the holding material.
- 50. A decorative assembly for a floral grouping, comprising:
- a container comprising:
- a porous self-supporting holding material having an upper end, a lower end, and an outer peripheral surface extending between the upper end and the lower end, the holding material for receiving and displaying the floral grouping without a pot means, and
- an external surface layer covering the lower end and outer peripheral surface of the container and integral thereto, the external surface layer having the property of being impermeable to an irrigant introduced into the porous self-supporting holding material, the external surface layer serving to retain the irrigant within the holding material for growth or maintenance of the botanical item growing or displayed therein; and
- a sheet of material disposed about the container to form a decorative cover, the sheet of material having an upper surface, a lower surface and an outer periphery, the upper surface of the sheet of material being disposed adjacent a portion of the external surface layer of the container and the sheet of material extending about a portion of the external surface layer of the container and wherein the sheet of material further comprises means for bonding the sheet of material to a portion of the external surface layer of the container.
- 51. The decorative assembly of claim 50 wherein the means for bonding the sheet of material further comprises a bonding material disposed on the upper surface of the sheet of material for bondingly engaging portions of the external surface layer of the container for cooperating to hold the sheet of material in position extended about the external surface layer of the container.
- 52. The decorative assembly of claim 51 wherein the bonding material is further defined as being disposed on the sheet of material for engaging portions of the external surface layer of the container near the upper end of the container and bondingly connecting portions of the sheet of material to the external surface layer of the container for cooperating to hold the sheet of material in position extended about the container to provide the decorative cover.
- 53. The decorative assembly of claim 51 wherein the bonding material is further defined as being disposed on the sheet of material and positioned thereon to engage a portion of the external surface layer of the container near the lower end of the container for bondingly connecting a portion of the sheet of material to the external surface layer thereby cooperating to hold the sheet of material in position extended about the container to provide the decorative cover.
- 54. A decorative assembly, comprising:
- a container comprising:
- a porous self-supporting holding material having an upper end, a lower end, and an outer peripheral surface extending between the upper end and the lower end, the holding material constructed of a material for receiving a portion of a floral grouping and supporting the floral grouping without a pot means, and
- an external surface layer covering the lower end and outer peripheral surface of the holding material and integral thereto, the external surface layer having the property of being substantially impermeable to an irrigant introduced into the porous self-supporting holding material, the external surface layer serving to retain the irrigant within the holding material;
- a floral grouping having a bloom end and a stem end, the stem end of the floral grouping being disposed in the holding material and the holding material supporting the floral grouping with a portion of the floral grouping near the bloom end thereof extending a distance upwardly beyond the upper end of the holding material; and
- a sheet of material disposed about the container to form a decorative cover, the sheet of material having an upper surface, a lower surface and an outer periphery, the upper surface of the sheet of material being disposed adjacent a portion of the external surface layer of the container and the sheet of material extending about a portion of the external surface layer of the container and leaving uncovered a portion of the holding material near the upper end thereof, the floral grouping extending upwardly beyond the upper end of the holding material and above the sheet of material and wherein the sheet of material further comprises means for bonding the sheet of material to a portion of the external surface layer of the container.
- 55. The sheet of material of claim 54 wherein the means for bonding further comprises a bonding material disposed on the upper surface of the sheet of material for bondingly engaging portions of the external surface layer of the container for cooperating to hold the sheet of material in a position extended about the external surface layer of the container.
- 56. The decorative assembly of claim 55 wherein the bonding material is further defined as being disposed on the sheet of material for engaging portions of the external surface layer of the holding material near the upper end of the container and bondingly connecting portions of the sheet of material to the external surface layer of the container for cooperating to hold the sheet of material in position extended about the container to provide the decorative cover.
- 57. The decorative assembly of claim 55 wherein the bonding material is further defined as being disposed on the sheet of material and positioned thereon to engage a portion of the external surface layer of the container near the lower end of the container for bondingly connecting a portion of the sheet of material to the external surface layer thereby cooperating to hold the sheet of material in position extended about the container to provide the decorative cover.
- 58. A decorative assembly for a floral grouping, comprising:
- a container comprising:
- a porous self-supporting holding material having an upper end, a lower end, and an outer peripheral surface extending between the upper end and the lower end, the holding material for receiving and displaying the floral grouping without a pot means, and
- an external surface layer covering the lower end and outer peripheral surface of the container and integral thereto, the external surface layer having the property of being impermeable to an irrigant introduced into the porous self-supporting holding material, the external surface layer serving to retain the irrigant within the holding material for growth or maintenance of the botanical item growing or displayed therein; and
- a sheet of material disposed about the container to form a decorative cover, the sheet of material having an upper surface, a lower surface and an outer periphery, the upper surface of the sheet of material being disposed adjacent a portion of the external surface layer of the container and leaving uncovered a portion of the holding material near the upper end of the container and the sheet of material extending about a portion of the external surface layer of the container and wherein the decorative cover formed has a skirt portion which extends at an angle away from the upper end of the holding material.
- 59. A decorative assembly for a floral grouping, comprising:
- a container comprising:
- a porous self-supporting holding material having an upper end, a lower end, and an outer peripheral surface extending between the upper end and the lower end, the holding material for receiving and displaying the floral grouping without a pot means, and
- an external surface layer covering the lower end and outer peripheral surface of the container and integral thereto, the external surface layer having the property of being impermeable to an irrigant introduced into the porous self-supporting holding material, the external surface layer serving to retain the irrigant within the holding material for growth or maintenance of the botanical item growing or displayed therein;
- a sheet of material disposed about the container to form a decorative cover, the sheet of material having an upper surface, a loner surface and an outer periphery, the upper surface of the sheet of material being disposed adjacent a portion of the external surface layer of the container and the sheet of material extending about a portion of the external surface layer of the container; and
- means for bonding the sheet of material to a portion of the external surface layer of the container.
- 60. A decorative assembly for a floral grouping, comprising:
- a container comprising:
- a porous self-supporting holding material having an upper end, a lower end, and an outer peripheral surface extending between the upper end and the lower end, the holding material for receiving and displaying the floral grouping without a pot means, and
- an external surface layer covering the lower end and outer peripheral surface of the container and integral thereto, the external surface layer having the property of being impermeable to an irrigant introduced into the porous self-supporting holding material, the external surface layer serving to retain the irrigant within the holding material for growth or maintenance of the botanical item growing or displayed therein; and
- a sheet of material disposed about the container to form a decorative cover, the sheet of material having an upper surface, a lower surface and an outer periphery, the upper surface of the sheet of material being disposed adjacent a portion of the external surface layer of the container and the sheet of material extending about a portion of the external surface layer of the container and wherein the sheet of material further comprises bonding means disposed on the sheet of material for forming a crimped portion in the sheet of material which serves to hold the sheet of material in the position extended about the container.
- 61. A decorative assembly, comprising:
- a container comprising:
- a porous self-supporting holding material having an upper end, a lower end, and an outer peripheral surface extending between the upper end and the lower end, the holding material constructed of a material for receiving a portion of a floral grouping and supporting the floral grouping without a pot means, and
- an external surface layer covering the lower end and outer peripheral surface of the holding material and integral thereto, the external surface layer having the property of being substantially impermeable to an irrigant introduced into the porous self-supporting holding material,i the external surface layer serving to retain the irrigant within the holding material;
- a floral grouping having a bloom end and a stem end, the stem end of the floral grouping being disposed in the holding material and the holding material supporting the floral grouping with a portion of the floral grouping near the bloom end thereof extending a distance upwardly beyond the upper end of the holding material; and
- a sheet of material disposed about the container to form a decorative cover, the sheet of material having an upper surface, a lower surface and an outer periphery, the upper surface of the sheet of material being disposed adjacent a portion of the external surface layer of the container and the sheet of material extending about a portion of the external surface layer of the container and leaving uncovered a portion of the holding material near the upper end thereof, the floral grouping extending upwardly beyond the upper end of the holding material and above the sheet of material and wherein the decorative cover formed has a skirt portion which extends at an angle away from the upper end of the holding material.
- 62. A decorative assembly, comprising:
- a container comprising:
- a porous self-supporting holding material having an upper end, a lower end, and an outer peripheral surface extending between the upper end and the lower end, the holding material constructed of a material for receiving a portion of a floral grouping and supporting the floral grouping without a pot means, and
- an external surface layer covering the lower end and outer peripheral surface of the holding material and integral thereto, the external surface layer having the property of being substantially impermeable to an irrigant introduced into the porous self-supporting holding material, the external surface layer serving to retain the irrigant within the holding material;
- a floral grouping having a bloom end and a stem end, the stem end of the floral grouping being disposed in the holding material and the holding material supporting the floral grouping with a portion of the floral grouping near the bloom end thereof extending a distance upwardly beyond the upper end of the holding material; and
- a sheet of material disposed about the container to form a decorative cover, the sheet of material having an upper surface, a lower surface and an outer periphery, the upper surface of the sheet of material being disposed adjacent a portion of the external surface layer of the container and the sheet of material extending about a portion of the external surface layer of the container and leaving uncovered a portion of the holding material near the upper end thereof, the floral grouping extending upwardly beyond the upper end of the holding material and above the sheet of material; and
- means for bonding the sheet of material to a portion of the external surface layer of the container.
- 63. A decorative assembly, comprising:
- a container comprising:
- a porous self-supporting holding material having an upper end, a lower end, and an outer peripheral surface extending between the upper end and the lower end, the holding material constructed of a material for receiving a portion of a floral grouping and supporting the floral grouping without a pot means, and
- an external surface layer covering the lower end and outer peripheral surface of the holding material and integral thereto, the external surface layer having the property of being substantially impermeable to an irrigant introduced into the porous self-supporting holding material, the external surface layer serving to retain the irrigant within the holding material;
- a floral grouping having a bloom end and a stem end, the stem end of the floral grouping being disposed in the holding material and the holding material supporting the floral grouping with a portion of the floral grouping near the bloom end thereof extending a distance upwardly beyond the upper end of the holding material; and
- a sheet of material disposed about the container to form a decorative cover, the sheet of material having an upper surface, a lower surface and an outer periphery, the upper surface of the sheet of material being disposed adjacent a portion of the external surface layer of the container and the sheet of material extending about a portion of the external surface layer of the container and leaving uncovered a portion of the holding material near the upper end thereof, the floral grouping extending upwardly beyond the upper end of the holding material and above the sheet of material and wherein the sheet of material further comprises bonding means disposed on the sheet of material for forming a crimped portion in the sheet of material which serves to hold the sheet of material in the position extended about the container.
