Claims
- 1. A method of recapturing a shape memory stent that has been deployed within a patient, wherein a lumen for the flow of blood is created by the deployed shape memory stent, comprising the steps of:
inserting a recapture stent within the shape memory stent, wherein the recapture stent is attached to a catheter; enlarging the recapture stent to come in contact with the shape memory stent; cooling the recapture stent thereby reverting the shape memory stent to a smaller or relaxed state whereby the shape memory stent enfolds the recapture stent; and withdrawing the catheter to remove the recapture stent and shape memory stent.
- 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the recapture stent is comprised of non-inflatable non-porous tubing, having at least one fluid flow conduit therein, and wherein the enlarging step further comprises the step of circulating heated fluid through the fluid flow conduit.
- 3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the recapture stent is comprised of non-inflatable non-porous tubing, having at least one fluid flow conduit therein, and wherein the cooling step further comprises the step of circulating cryogenic fluid through the fluid flow conduit.
- 4. A method of treating a vascular wall, comprising the steps of:
providing a stent comprised of non-inflatable tubing, having at least one fluid flow conduit therein and at least one porous region in an outer wall thereof; providing a removable catheter having a distal end that is sealingly attachable to the stent and valve means for controlling the flow of fluid; attaching the catheter to the stent; inserting the stent and catheter into a body, positioning the stent at a desired location in a body lumen; and delivering a treatment fluid through the catheter to the stent, wherein the treatment fluid is released through the porous region of the stent.
- 5. The method according to claim 4, wherein the treatment fluid is a cryogenic fluid.
- 6. The method according to claim 4, wherein the treatment fluid is a heated fluid.
- 7. The method according to claim 4, wherein the treatment fluid is a radioactive fluid.
- 8. The method according to claim 4, wherein the treatment fluid is a drug.
- 9. A method of treating a vascular wall, comprising the steps of:
providing a stent comprised of non-inflatable tubing, wherein the tubing comprises at least one fluid flow conduit within an outer wall thereof, at least one porous region in the outer wall and valve means for controlling the flow of fluid; providing a removable catheter having a distal end that is sealingly attachable to the stent; attaching the catheter to the stent; inserting the stent and catheter into a body, positioning the stent at a desired location in a body lumen; and delivering a treatment fluid through the catheter to the stent, wherein the treatment fluid is released through the porous region of the stent.
- 10. The method according to claim 9, wherein the treatment fluid is a cryogenic fluid.
- 11. The method according to claim 9, wherein the treatment fluid is a heated fluid.
- 12. The method according to claim 9, wherein the treatment fluid is a radioactive fluid.
- 13. The method according to claim 9, wherein the treatment fluid is a drug.
