Claims
- 1. A fluid-operated disengaging apparatus for clutches, particularly for the clutches of automotive vehicles, comprising a housing having an open side and including inner and outer walls and a bottom wall, said walls defining an annular chamber; a hollow annular piston axially movably received in said chamber and defining with said housing an an outer annular clearance surrounded by said outer wall and an inner annular clearance surrounding said inner wall, said piston and said cylinder having means for confining said piston to axial movements and for preventing radial movements of said piston relative to said cylinder; a throw-out bearing mounted in said hollow piston and arranged to share the axial movements of said piston, said bearing having rolling elements which are at least partially confined in said piston; a membrane acting between said housing and said piston and including inner and outer marginal portions secured to said housing, a median portion contacting said piston and facing the open end of said housing, and first and second annular corrugations respectively located in said inner and outer clearances; and a substantially conical spring reacting against said housing and arranged to yieldably bias said piston in a direction toward the open side of said housing.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a supply of fluid medium in said chamber between said membrane and said walls, said spring being disposed in said supply of fluid medium.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said piston has a bottom wall and further comprising pressure distributing means interposed between said spring and the bottom wall of said piston.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 3, wherein said pressure distributing means has an annular seat facing the bottom wall of said housing and said spring includes a coil spring having an end convolution in said seat.
- 5. A fluid-operated disengaging apparatus for clutches, particularly for the clutches of automotive vehicles, comprising a stationary housing having an open side and including inner and outer walls defining a chamber; a hollow annular piston axially reciprocably received in and defining with said housing an outer annular clearance surrounded by said outer wall and an inner annular clearance surrounding said inner wall, said inner wall and said piston having means for confining said piston to axial movements and for preventing radial movements of said piston relative to said housing; and a throw-out bearing installed in said piston and arranged to share the axial movements of said piston relative to said housing, said bearing being movable radially of said piston and having rolling elements which are at least partially confined in the piston.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 5, further comprising a membrane acting between said housing and said piston and including inner and outer marginal portions secured to said housing, a median portion contacting said piston in said chamber and facing the open end of said housing, and first and second annular corrugations respectively located in said inner and outer clearances.
- 7. A fluid-operated disengaging apparatus for clutches, particularly for the clutches of automotive vehicles, comprising a housing having an open side and including inner and outer walls defining a chamber; a hollow annular piston axially reciprocably received in said housing; means for preventing radial movements of said piston relative to said housing; and a throw-out bearing installed in said hollow piston and arranged to share the axial movements of said piston relative to said housing, said bearing being movable radially of said piston and having rolling elements which are at least partially confined in said piston.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 7, further comprising at least one annular seal interposed between said piston and said housing.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein said outer wall of said housing spacedly surrounds said piston and said seal is interposed between said outer wall and said piston.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein said inner wall of said housing is spacedly surrounded by said piston and said seal is interposed between said inner wall and said piston.
- 11. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein said piston and said housing have confronting bottom walls and further comprising a substantially conical spring reacting against the bottom wall of said housing and bearing against the bottom wall of said piston.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein said bearing has an outer race and an inner race, one of said races extending from said piston axially in a direction away from said housing.
