Claims
- 1. A valve apparatus having an inlet means exposed to a source of fluid under pressure and an outlet means connected to a fluid flow path, comprising: first pressure sensitive means responsive to the fluid under pressure at a first predetermined value for blocking fluid flow between said inlet means and said outlet means; second pressure sensitive means responsive to the fluid under pressure at a second predetermined value, greater than said first predetermined value, for establishing fluid flow between said inlet means and said outlet means; third pressure sensitive means responsive to the fluid under pressure at a third predetermined value, intermediate said first and second predetermined values, for blocking fluid flow between said inlet means and said outlet means after said fluid flow has been established by said second pressure sensitive means; a hollow mandrel, a sleeve slidable on said mandrel; and a normally open by-pass valve actuated by said sleeve and wherein said inlet means includes an inlet opening formed at one end of said mandrel, said outlet means includes an outlet opening connected to said by-pass valve, and said first pressure sensitive means includes a surface of said sleeve exposed to the fluid under pressure whereby, at said first predetermined value, the fluid under pressure acting upon said surface slidingly moves said sleeve along said mandrel to actuate said by-pass valve to the closed position to block said inlet opening.
- 2. The valve apparatus according to claim 1 including spring means resisting the movement of said sleeve along said mandrel.
- 3. The valve apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said outlet means includes a relief port connected to a second outlet opening and wherein said second pressure sensitive means includes said surface whereby, at said second predetermined value, the fluid under pressure acting upon said surface slidingly moves said sleeve relative to said mandrel for exposing said relief port to the fluid under pressure and establishing fluid flow between said inlet means and said outlet means.
- 4. The valve apparatus according to claim 3 including spring means resisting the movement of said sleeve.
- 5. The valve apparatus according to claim 4 wherein said third pressure sensitive means includes said surface and a second surface of said sleeve exposed to the fluid under pressure when said relief port is exposed to the fluid under pressure whereby, at said third predetermined pressure value, said spring means slidingly moves said sleeve relative to said mandrel to block said relief port.
- 6. A fluid pressure actuated by-pass and relief valve connected between a source of fluid under pressure and a fluid flow path comprising: a hollow mandrel having an inlet opening formed in one end thereof exposed to the source of fluid under pressure and an outlet opening formed at the other end thereof; a sleeve slidably received on said mandrel; a normally open by-pass valve actuated by said sleeve and connected between said mandrel outlet opening and the fluid flow path; and a relief port connected to said fluid flow path, wherein, at a first predetermined value of fluid pressure, the force generated by the fluid under pressure acting on a surface of said sleeve slidingly moves said sleeve relative to said mandrel to actuate said by-pass valve to the closed position to block the fluid flow path; and wherein, at a higher second predetermined value of fluid pressure, the force generated by the fluid acting on said surface slidingly moves said sleeve relative to said mandrel to connect said relief port to said inlet opening and establish fluid flow between the source of fluid under pressure and the fluid flow path.
- 7. The valve according to claim 6 including a spring means resisting said movement of said sleeve and a second surface on said sleeve exposed to the fluid under pressure when said relief port is connected to said inlet opening; and wherein, at a third intermediate fluid pressure value, the force generated by the fluid under pressure acting on said first and second surfaces is less than the force generated by said spring means which slidingly moves said sleeve relative to said mandrel to block said relief port.
