Claims
- 1. A fluid pressure apparatus made up of a complex assembly of fluid pressure devices mounted respectively on interconnected manifolds, comprising:
- a plurality of fluid pressure devices, said fluid pressure devices being of different types and serving different functions from each other;
- a plurality of manifolds, wherein said fluid pressure devices are mounted respectively on said manifolds, each of said manifolds having identical standardized side surfaces such that a side surface of one of said manifolds interlocks with a mating side surface on an adjacent manifold, said side surfaces including fluid connecting mechanisms for providing fluid connections between non-circular fluid passages in the respective manifolds and electrical connecting mechanisms for providing electrical connections between electrical terminals in the respective manifolds,
- wherein the fluid connecting mechanisms in one side surface comprise projecting connecting elements extending from and corresponding in shape to said non-circular fluid passages, and the fluid connecting mechanisms in another side surface comprise recessed connecting elements recessed into and corresponding in shape to said non-circular fluid passages and which are positioned and shaped for mating with said projecting connecting elements, and wherein a mating pair of said projecting and recessed connecting elements are non-circular in shape.
- 2. The fluid pressure apparatus according to claim 1, wherein each of said side surfaces includes a plurality of connecting mechanisms, said respective connecting mechanisms providing hydraulic connections between fluid passages in respective fluid pressure devices and electrical connections between electrical terminals in the respective fluid pressure devices, wherein positions and shapes of the connecting mechanisms in one side surface are such that the connecting mechanisms engage with and mate with identically positioned connecting mechanisms in another side surface of an adjacent manifold, whereby adjacent desired fluid pressure device can be connected through said connecting mechanisms.
- 3. The fluid pressure apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said projecting and recessed connecting elements are substantially rectangular in shape.
- 4. The fluid pressure apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said projecting connecting mechanisms of said one side surface engage with recessed connecting mechanisms of said other side surface to provide said hydraulic connections, and wherein a projecting connecting mechanism of said other side surface engages with a recessed connecting mechanism of said one side surface to provide said electrical connections.
- 5. The fluid pressure apparatus according to claim 1, each of said side surfaces comprising connecting means for attaching respective manifolds to each other, said connecting means comprising projecting connecting members projecting from one side surface, said mating engagement grooves provided on another side surface of an adjacent manifold, said connecting members being press-fitted into said engagement grooves.
- 6. A fluid pressure apparatus comprising:
- a plurality of fluid pressure devices defined by respective blocks having respectively different functions, wherein said blocks are connected adjacently to each other, each of said blocks having a plurality of non-circular fluid passages therein, each of said blocks further comprising:
- a first joint surface having first fluid connecting portions extending from and corresponding in shape to said non-circular fluid passages, a first electrical signal connecting portion, and first block engaging means;
- a second joint surface having second fluid connecting portions recessed into and corresponding in shape to said non-circular fluid passages, a second electrical signal connecting portion, and said block engaging means;
- wherein the first joint surface of one block contacts the second joint surface of an adjacent block, said first fluid passage connecting portions, said first electrical signal connecting portion and said first block engaging means disposed on the first joint surface of said one block being shaped and positioned so as to interlock with said second fluid passage connecting portions, said second electrical signal connecting portion and said second block engaging means disposed on the second joint surface of said adjacent block,
- wherein said first and second fluid connecting portions and said first and second electrical signal connecting portions are non-circular in shape.
- 7. The fluid pressure apparatus according to claim 6, wherein said first block engaging means disposed on the first joint surface comprises a plurality of projecting connecting members, and wherein said second block engaging means disposed on the second joint surface comprises a plurality of recessed engagement grooves, wherein said projecting connecting members are press-fit into said engagement grooves to thereby couple adjacent blocks to each other.
- 8. The fluid pressure apparatus according to claim 6, wherein said first fluid connecting portions of said first joint surface comprise projecting connecting mechanisms, and said second fluid connecting portions of said second joint surface comprise recessed connecting mechanisms, wherein the projecting connecting mechanisms of one block are inserted into and held in engagement with the recessed connecting mechanisms of an adjacent block, and further comprising sealing members disposed around an outer periphery of said projecting connecting mechanisms.
- 9. The fluid pressure apparatus according to claim 8, wherein said first electrical connecting portion of said first joint surface comprises a recessed connecting mechanism supporting electrical terminals therein, and wherein said second electrical connecting portion of said second joint surface comprises a projecting connecting mechanism supporting a plurality of connecting terminals which connect to said electrical terminals when said first and second electrical connecting portions are fit together.
- 10. The fluid pressure apparatus according to claim 6, wherein said first and second fluid connecting portions and said first and second electrical signal connecting portions are substantially rectangular in shape.
