Claims
- 1. A fluid pressure power transmission comprising: fluid operated first motor means, fluid operated second motor means, first pump means for supplying fluid under pressure to the first motor, first fluid circuit means connecting the first pump means to the first motor means, second pump means for supplying fluid under pressure to the second motor means, second fluid circuit means connecting the second pump means with the second motor means, means for concurrently operating the first and second pump means whereby said first and second pump means supply fluid under pressure to the first and second circuit means thereby operating said first and second motor means, said first and second pump means each having control means operable to vary the rate of flow of fluid discharged by the pump means, linkage means connected to the control means of the first and second pump means to concurrently operate the control means of the first and second pump means, means connected to the control means of one pump means operable through said linkage means to actuate the control means of the first and second pump means to vary the output flow of fluid from said first and second pump means, said linkage means including fluid operated means operable in response to a difference in the pressure of the fluid in the first and second circuits to actuate the control means of the other pump means to alter the rate of flow of fluid discharged by said other pump means so as to substantially balance the pressure of the fluid in the first and second circuits thereby maintaining the torque and speed output of the first and second motor means substantially constant, means having fluid flow restricting means interconnecting the first fluid circuit with the second fluid circuit whereby fluid under high pressure in one fluid circuit flows to the other fluid circuit increasing the pressure of the fluid therein, and shuttle valve means connected to the first and second fluid circuit means in parallel with the means having fluid flow restricting means and connected to the fluid operated means, said shuttle valve means operable to supply fluid under pressure to the fluid operated means when there is a difference in fluid pressure in the first and second fluid circuit means whereby said fluid operated means moves the control means of one of said pump means to substantially balance the pressure of the fluid in said first and second circuits.
- 2. The power transmission of claim 1 wherein: the first motor means comprises a pair of fluid operated motors, said first circuit means being connected to said pair of motors.
- 3. The power transmission of claim 1 wherein: said fluid operated means includes a piston and cylinder assembly connected to the control means of both pump means, and said shuttle valve means being connected to the piston and cylinder assembly, said shuttle valve means operable to supply fluid under pressure to the piston and cylinder assembly when there is a difference in fluid pressure in the first and second fluid circuit means.
- 4. The power transmission of claim 1 including: said first fluid circuit means including a first line for carrying fluid from the first pump means to the first motor means for driving the first motor means in a forward direction, and a second line for carrying fluid from the first pump means to the first motor means for driving the first motor means in a reverse direction, said second fluid circuit means including a first line for carrying fluid from the second pump means to the second motor means for driving said second motor means in a forward direction, and a second line for carrying fluid from the second pump means to the second motor means for driving said second motor means in a reverse direction, said means having fluid flow restricting means comprising: first means having first fluid flow restricting means interconnecting the first lines of the first and second fluid circuit means whereby fluid under high pressure in one of the first lines flows to the other first line to increase the fluid pressure in said other first line, and second means having second fluid flow restricting means interconnecting the second lines of the first and second fluid circuit means whereby fluid under high pressure in one of the second lines flows to the other second line to increase the fluid pressure in said other second line.
- 5. The power transmission of claim 1 wherein: said shuttle valve means includes a first shuttle valve connected to the fluid operating means and a second shuttle valve connected to the fluid operating means.
- 6. The power transmission of claim 3 wherein: said fluid operated means includes a piston and cylinder assembly, said first shuttle valve and said second shuttle valve being connected to opposite ends of said piston and cylinder assembly.
- 7. A fluid pressure power transmission comprising: fluid operated first motor means, fluid operated second motor means, first pump means for supplying fluid under pressure to the first motor means, first fluid circuit means connecting the first pump means to the first motor means, said first fluid circuit means including a first line for carrying fluid from the first pump means to the first motor means for driving the first motor means in a forward direction, and a second line for carrying fluid from the first pump means to the first motor means for driving the first motor means in a reverse direction, second pump means for supplying fluid under pressure to the second motor means, second fluid circuit means connecting the second pump means with the second motor means, said second fluid circuit means including a first line for carrying fluid from the second pump means to the second motor means for driving said second motor means in a forward direction, and a second line for carrying fluid from the second pump means to the second motor means for driving said second motor means in a reverse direction, means for concurrently operating the first and second pump means whereby said first and second pump means supply fluid under pressure to the first and second circuit means thereby operating said first and second motor means, said first and second pump means each having control means operable to vary the rate of flow of fluid discharged by each pump means and thereby control the torque and speed of the first and second motor means, linkage means connecting the control means of the first and second pump means to concurrently operate the control means, means to actuate the control means of the first and second pump means to vary the output flow of fluid from said first and second pump means, said linkage means including fluid operated means operable in response to a difference in the pressure of the fluid in the first and second circuits to actuate the control means to alter the rate of flow of fluid discharged by one of said pump means so as to substantially balance the pressure of the fluid in the first and second circuits thereby maintaining the torque and speed output of the first and second motor means substantially constant, first fluid flow restricting means interconnecting the first lines of the first and second fluid circuit means whereby fluid under high pressure in one of the first lines flows into the other first line to increase the fluid pressure in said other first line, second fluid flow restricting means interconnecting the second lines of the first and second fluid circuit means whereby fluid under high pressure in one of said second lines flows to the other second line to increase the pressure in said other second line, first shuttle valve means connected to the first lines of the first and second fluid circuit means in parallel with the first fluid flow restricting means and connected to the fluid operated means, and second shuttle valve means connected to the second lines of the first and second fluid circuit means in parallel with the second fluid flow restricting means and connected to the fluid operated means, said first and second shuttle valve means being operable to supply fluid under pressure to the fluid operated means when there is a difference in fluid pressure in said first lines or second lines whereby said fluid operated means moves the control means of one of said pump means to substantially balance the pressure of the fluid in said fluid and second fluid circuits.
- 8. The power transmission of claim 7 wherein: the first motor means comprises a pair of fluid operated motors, said first circuit means being connected to said pair of motors.
- 9. The power transmission of claim 7 wherein: said fluid operated means includes a piston and cylinder assembly, said first and second shuttle valve means being connected to opposite ends of the piston and cylinder assembly to supply fluid under pressure thereto when there is a difference in fluid pressure in the first and second fluid circuit means.
- 10. The power transmission of claim 7 wherein: the fluid operated means is a piston and cylinder assembly.
