Claims
- 1. A tracer comprising the structure: ##STR29## wherein: R.sub.1 is H when R.sub.2 is n-pentyl, R.sub.3 is H, R.sub.4 is RZQ, and X is .dbd.C--, --C.dbd. or --CH; or
- R.sub.1 is H when R.sub.2 is n-pentyl, R.sub.3 is RZQ, R.sub.4 is CH.sub.3 and X is .dbd.C--, --C.dbd. or --CH; or
- R.sub.1 is RZQ when R.sub.2 is n-pentyl, R.sub.3 is H, R.sub.4 is CH.sub.3 or COOH, and X is .dbd.C--, --C.dbd. or --CH; or
- R.sub.1 is H when R.sub.2 is --CH.sub.2 RZQ, R.sub.3 is H, R.sub.4 is CH.sub.3 or COOH, and X is .dbd.C--, --C.dbd. or --CH; or
- R.sub.1 is H when R.sub.2 is R.sub.5, R.sub.3 is H, R.sub.4 is H or RZQ, and X is --N--;
- R.sub.5 is an alkyl group of from about 5 to about 9 carbon atoms;
- R is a linking group consisting of from about 0 to about 15 carbon atoms and heteroatoms, wherein said heteroatoms are N, O, S, Cl, Br, I or F;
- Z is C.dbd.O, C.dbd.NH, NH, or SO.sub.2 ; and
- Q is fluorescein or a derivative of fluorescein, said fluorescein or derivative of fluorescein providing said tracer with the ability to emit fluorescence.
- 2. The tracer of claim 1 wherein ZQ is fluorescein-5-yl carbonyl.
- 3. The tracer of claim 1 wherein ZQ is fluorescein-6-yl carbonyl.
- 4. The tracer of claim 1 wherein ZQ is fluorescein-5-yl amino.
- 5. The tracer of claim 1 wherein ZQ is fluorescein-6-yl amino.
- 6. A tracer compound for use in a fluorescence polarization assay for determining the presence or amount of tetrahydrocannabinoids and tetrahydrocannabinoid metabolites in a test sample of biological fluid comprising the structure: ##STR30##
- 7. The tracer of claim 1 wherein ZQ is an imino, an iminocarbonyl, a carbonyl, a carbonimidoyl, an iminosulfonyl, a sulfonyl, an iminocarbonimidoyl, a thiocarbonyldiimino, an iminocarbonyloxy, an iminothiocarbonyloxy, a (sulfonyliminocarbonyl) diimino or a triazinyldiimino derivative of fluorescein, said derivative of fluorescein being linked to R by said imino, iminocarbonyl, carbonyl, carbonimidoyl, iminosulfonyl, sulfonyl, iminocarbonimidoyl, thiocarbonyldiimino, iminocarbonyloxy, iminothiocarbonyloxy, (sulfonyliminocarbonyl) diimino or triazinyldiimino group.
- 8. The tracer of claim 1 wherein R.sub.1 is H, R.sub.2 is n-pentyl, R.sub.3 is RZQ, R.sub.4 is CH.sub.3 and X is .dbd.C--.
- 9. The tracer of claim 1 wherein Q is carboxyfluorescein.
- 10. The tracer of claim 8 wherein Q is carboxyfluorescein.
- 11. A tracer comprising the structure: ##STR31## wherein: R is a linking group consisting of from about 0 to about 15 carbon atoms and heteroatoms, wherein said heteroatoms are N, O, S, Cl, Br, I or F;
- Z is C.dbd.O, C.dbd.NH, NH, or SO.sub.2 ; and
- Q is fluorescein or a derivative of fluorescein, said fluorescein or derivative of fluorescein providing said tracer with the ability to emit fluorescence.
- 12. The tracer of claim 11 wherein ZQ is an imino, an iminocarbonyl, a carbonyl, a carbonimidoyl, an iminosulfonyl, a sulfonyl, an iminocarbonimidoyl, a thiocarbonyldiimino, an iminocarbonyloxy, an iminothiocarbonyloxy, a (sulfonyliminocarbonyl) diimino or a triazinyldiimino derivative of fluorescein, said derivative of fluorescein being linked to R by said imino, iminocarbonyl, carbonyl, carbonimidoyl, iminosulfonyl, sulfonyl, iminocarbonimidoyl, thiocarbonyldiimino, iminocarbonyloxy, iminothiocarbonyloxy, (sulfonyliminocarbonyl) diimino or triazinyldiimino group.
- 13. A tracer comprising the structure: ##STR32## wherein Q is fluorescein or a derivative of fluorescein, said fluorescein or derivative of fluorescein providing said tracer with the ability to emit fluorescence.
- 14. A tracer comprising the structure: ##STR33## wherein: R.sub.4 is RZQ;
- R is a linking group consisting of from about 0 to about 15 carbon atoms and heteroatoms, wherein said heteroatoms are N, O, S, Cl, Br, I or F;
- Z is C.dbd.O, C.dbd.NH, SO.sub.2, NH, NCH.sub.3 or CH.sub.2 ; and
- Q is a fluorescein or a derivative of fluorescein, said fluorescein or derivative of fluorescein providing said tracer with the ability to emit fluorescence; wherein ZQ is an imino, an iminocarbonyl, an iminosulfonyl, a thiocarbonyldiimino, or a (sulfonyliminocarbonyl) diimino derivative of fluorescein, said derivative of fluorescein being linked to R by said imino, iminocarbonyl, iminosulfonyl, thiocarbonyldiimino or (sulfonyliminocarbonyl) diimino group.
