Claims
- 1. A gasket material for scaling against at least one side of a work piece, the gasket material comprising:
a flexible, foam substrate; and a flexible, curable, stretchable polyurethane mix adapted to at least partially saturate the foam substrate prior to curing.
- 2. The material of claim 1 wherein the foam is an open cell foam.
- 3. The material of claim 1 wherein the curable polyurethane mix is elastomeric.
- 4. The material of claim 1 wherein the curable polyurethane mix is solvent resistant.
- 5. The material of claim 1 wherein the curable polyurethane mix and the foam substantially maintain their physical characteristics between −65° C. and 135° C.
- 6. The material of claim 1 wherein the foam substrate has a first side and a second side and wherein the curable polyurethane mix extends beyond the first and second side of the foam substrate.
- 7. The material of claim 6 wherein the thickness of the curable polyurethane fill is greater on one side than the other side.
- 8. The material of claim 1 wherein the foam substrate is saturated.
- 9. The material of claim 1 wherein the foam substrate has a first side and a second side and wherein the mix extends beyond the first side of the at least partially saturated foam substrate.
- 10. The gasket material of claim 1 wherein the flexible foam substrate is shaped to conform to a workpiece.
- 11. The gasket material of claim 1 wherein the flexible foam substrate is shaped in the form of tape.
- 12. A method of manufacturing a gasket material. The method including the steps of:
providing a flexible foam substrate; providing a flexible curable polyurethane mix; combining the polyurethane mix with a foam substrate until the foam substrate is at least partially saturated; and allowing the mix to cure.
- 13. A method of claim 12 wherein the combining step includes the step of saturating the foam substrate.
- 14. The method of claim 13 wherein the combining step includes the step of layering the foam substrate with curable polyurethane mix such that the curable mix extends beyond the foam substrate.
- 15. The method of claim 12 wherein the combining step includes the step of adding layers of polyurethane mix to both sides of a foam substrate.
- 16. The method of claim 12 wherein the combining step is performed on a flat glass topped table with a release member on top of the glass.
- 17. A method of using a gasket material on a workpiece comprising:
providing a flexible foam substrate at least partially saturated with a curable stretchable polyurethane mix; placing the gasket material between a workpiece having two parts and compressing the gasket material between the two parts.
