Claims
- 1. An apparatus for enhancing the mixing of foam precursors in foam-in-bag systems, to thereby enhance the quality of the resulting foam, said apparatus comprising:
a heated chamber for storing closed bags containing separate portions of foam precursor compositions; an opening in said chamber for dispensing the bags from said chamber; and mechanical mixing means between said heated chamber and said opening for mechanically manipulating the bags as the bags are dispensed from said chamber for mixing the foam precursor compositions therein.
- 2. An apparatus according to claim 1 and further comprising a bag inside said heated chamber.
- 3. An apparatus according to claim 2 comprising a plurality of bags inside said heated chamber.
- 4. An apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said mechanical mixing means comprises a pair of rollers through which bags in said chamber pass as they are dispensed from said opening.
- 5. A foam cushion packaging precursor comprising:
a bag formed of two sheets of flexible sheet material closed on four side edges; and two foam precursor compositions stored separately in said bag; and said separated foam precursor compositions having respective temperatures of between about 80° F. and 160° F. (27° C.-71° C.).
- 6. A foam cushion packaging precursor according to claim 5 wherein said foam precursor compositions have respective temperatures of about 120° F. (49° C.).
- 7. A foam cushion packaging precursor according to claim 5 wherein said bag includes at least one panel formed of a material that is gas-permeable, but that substantially prevents the passage of foam and foam precursors, and containing a foamable composition therein.
- 8. A foam cushion packaging precursor according to claim 5 wherein said bag is formed of a material that insulates the outer surface of said bag against conductive heat transfer from heated contents inside said bag.
- 9. A foam cushion packaging precursor according to claim 5 wherein said bag further comprises seals that define interior cells that hold and separate said foam precursors, with the seal between said foam precursor cells being frangible, and at least one other seal defining said precursor cells being frangible.
- 10. A foam cushion packaging precursor according to claim 9 wherein one of the precursor cells has only one frangible seal wall which borders the other precursor cell for directing the contents of said cell to mix with the contents of said other cell before the mixed contents enter the remaining portion of said bag.
- 11. A foam cushion packaging precursor according to claim 5 wherein said flexible sheet comprises plastic film.
