Claims
- 1. A liquid absorbing multilayered flexible sheet comprising:
- a) a nonsegmented flexible layer comprised of woven or nonwoven liquid absorbing fabrics;
- b) a segmented flexible layer of woven or nonwoven liquid absorbing fabrics being tacked face-to-face to said nonsegmented layer, the segments of the segmented layer being separated by substantially straight boundaries extending across one dimension of the sheet;
- such that the multilayered sheet is folded along the boundaries between the segments of the segmented layer and therefore can be used unfolded as walk on mats, wipes, absorbent pads and response pads or folded as pillows or socks for absorbing liquids.
- 2. The multilayered flexible sheet according to claim 1 further comprising a wear-resistant flexible sheet tacked to the face of the nonsegmented layer opposite the segmented layer.
- 3. The multilayered flexible sheet according to claim 2 wherein the wear-resistant sheet is sufficiently porous to allow fluids to pass therethrough to be absorbed by the segmented and nonsegmented flexible sheet layers while restricting the passage of particulate material.
- 4. The multilayered flexible sheet according to claim 2 wherein the layers are sufficiently porous to allow fluids to pass therethrough to be absorbed by the flexible layers while restricting the passage of particulate material.
- 5. The multilayered flexible sheet according to any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein the sheet is in the form of long strips with two substantially parallel edges and the boundaries between segments of the segmented layer are substantially parallel to the edges of the strips.
- 6. The multilayered flexible sheet according to claim 5 wherein the long strips are provided with perforations extending substantially perpendicular to the strip edges enabling the strip to be torn apart by hand along the perforations.
- 7. A rolled or folded liquid absorbing mulitlayered flexible strip and dispensing container therefor comprising:
- a) a nonsegmented flexible sheet layer comprised of woven or nonwoven liquid absorbing fabrics;
- b) a flexible sheet layer of woven or nonwoven liquid absorbing fabrics being tacked face-to-face to said nonsegmented layer, the segments of the segmented layer being separated by substantially straight boundaries extending across one dimension of the sheet, such that the multilayered sheet is folded along the boundaries between the segments and the segmented layer;
- c) said multilayered flexible sheet being in the form of long strips with two substantially parallel edges and the boundaries between segments of the segmented layer are substantially parallel to the edges of the strip; and
- d) a container large enough to hold the rolled or folded strip and having a slot therein from which an end of the rolled multilayered flexible strip may be drawn.
- 8. The strip and container according to claim 7 further comprising a wear-resistant flexible sheet tacked to the face of the nonsegmented layer opposite the segmented layer.
- 9. The strip and container according to claim 8 wherein the wear-resistant sheet is sufficiently porous to allow fluids to pass therethrough to be absorbed by the segmented and nonsegmented sheet layers while restricting passage of particulate material.
- 10. The multilayered flexible sheet according to claim 8 wherein the layers are sufficiently porous to allow fluids to pass therethrough to be absorbed by the flexible layers while restricting the passage of particulate material.
- 11. The strip and container according to claim 7 wherein said container further comprises a mandrel mounted therein and passing through the open core of a roll to facilitate pay out of the strip as it is being drawn through the slot.
- 12. A multilayered flexible sheet for absorbing liquids according to claim 1 wherein at least one of said nonsegmented flexible layer and said segmented flexible layer is comprised of a plurality of sublayers.
- 13. A multilayered flexible sheet for absorbing liquids according to claim 1 wherein said nonsegmented flexible layer and said segmented flexible layer are each comprised of a plurality of sublayers.
- 14. A multilayered flexible sheet for absorbing liquids according to claim 7 wherein at least one of said nonsegmented flexible layer and said segmented flexible layer is comprised of a plurality of sublayers.
- 15. A multilayered flexible sheet for absorbing liquids according to claim 7 wherein said nonsegmented flexible layer and said segmented flexible layer are each comprised of a plurality of sublayers.
- 16. A multilayered flexible sheet for absorbing liquids according to claim 1 wherein said nonsegmented flexible layer and said segmented flexible layer are tacked face to face employing a method selected from the group consisting of hot melt bonding, pin bonding, ultrasonic bonding, chemical bonding, thermal bonding, and mechanical bonding.
- 17. A multilayered flexible sheet for absorbing liquids according to claim 7 wherein said nonsegmented flexible layer and said segmented flexible layer are tacked face to face employing a method selected from the group consisting of hot melt bonding, pin bonding, ultrasonic bonding, chemical bonding, thermal bonding, and mechanical bonding.
