The present invention relates to thumb rests for pistols.
Recoil can be intimidating for anyone learning to fire a pistol.
Recoil can cause a shooter to miss his target or to drop the pistol.
The above disadvantage is addressed by a rest for a pistol having a takedown passage and defining a major side plane. The rest comprises a post configured to be closely received by the passage; a planar rest element pivotally connected to the post and movable between an active position perpendicular to the side plane and a retracted position parallel to the side plane; and the rest element being biased to the active position.
Item 1: illustrates (1 of 2) of the main components of the assembly as it replaces the factory takedown lever on the Sig Sauer P320 Series of pistols. (Like designs of this folding part can/will be adapted for other firearms at any later date whether they are takedown lever, trigger pin, frame (lower) or picatinny mounted.
Item 2: illustrates the M4 screw hole through the item 1 assembly for uses of a M4×0.50 proprietary set screw (described in a later
Item 3 and 4: illustrates bottom (item 3) and top (item 4) of the thumb rest area. The off-hand thumb is placed on the area indicated in item 4 on the left side of the firearm acting as a rest to significantly reduce recoil due to the thumb pressing forward at 55 degrees and interrupting the upward rotation of the muzzle when firing a firearm.
Item 9: illustrates the area perpendicular to the main arm body that retains the guide rod and spring.
Item 7: illustrates the set screw that fits through the main arm body to fit in the guide channel of the lower to stop any rotation downward.
Item 8: illustrates the screwdriver slot in the far right side of the thumb rest to aid in removal of the center cam area in the event of breakage.
