Claims
- 1. A folding tool, comprising:
(a) a handle, including:
(i) first frame side member having a pair of opposite ends defining a longitudinal axis of said tool, said first frame side member having a flange member integral therewith, located between said opposite ends and extending laterally from said first frame side member; (ii) a pivot axle extending laterally from said first frame side member at a first one of said opposite ends thereof; (iii) a spring retainer extending laterally from said first frame side member and located at the other one of said pair of opposite ends of said first frame side member; and (iv) an elongate beam spring having a free end portion and a central portion, said central portion being supported by said flange and said beam spring being engaged with a first end of said flange, said beam spring thereby being prevented from moving away from said pivot axle in an axial direction with respect to said first frame side member, and said spring including a hook portion located opposite said free end and extending at least partially around and resting on said spring retainer; and; (b) a first tool member having a base portion mounted on said pivot axle for pivoting movement about said pivot axle between a deployed position and a folded position with respect to said first frame side member, said free end of said beam spring bearing on said base portion of said first tool member and supporting said first tool member in said deployed position.
- 2. The folding tool of claim 1 wherein said base portion of said first tool member includes an abutment face and said free end portion of said spring includes a tip, and wherein said abutment face rests against said tip when said tool member is in said deployed position.
- 3. The folding tool of claim 1 wherein said beam spring includes an abutment shoulder and said flange member has a second end facing toward and located nearer said second one of said opposite ends of said frame side member yet spaced far enough from said spring retainer to permit said beam spring to be inserted between said second end of said flange and said spring retainer and thus to permit said hook portion to be placed into engagement around said spring retainer and to permit said shoulder to be placed into engagement with said first end of said flange during installation of said spring into a required and operative position with respect to said frame side member.
- 4. The folding tool of claim 1, said handle including a second frame side member parallel with said first frame side member.
- 5. The folding tool of claim 4, said flange member extending from said first frame side member to said second frame side member.
- 6. The folding tool of claim 4 wherein said flange member is interconnected with said second frame side member, said frame side members and said flange member defining a central channel, and said beam spring being located within said central channel.
- 7. The folding tool of claim 1 wherein said first tool member is a first one of a pair of pliers jaws, said folding tool also including a second handle, a second one of said pair of pliers jaws being mounted on a pivot axle of said second handle.
- 8. The folding tool of claim 1 wherein said first tool member is a first one of a pair of scissors, said folding tool also including a second handle, a second one of said pair of scissors being mounted on a pivot axle of said second handle.
