Claims
- 1. A method of providing a therapeutic effect in relation to the prevention or treatment of coronary heart disease in a subject, the method comprising providing a flavonol and anthocyanin containing dry composition prepared from plant-derived material selected from the group consisting of wine and grape juice, wherein the composition is water soluble and comprises at least 25% w/w polyphenols, the composition comprising at least 0.1% flavonol, and administering the composition to the subject in a therapeutically effective dosage.
- 2. A method according to claim 1, wherein said plant derived material is derived from wine.
- 3. A method according to claim 1, wherein said plant derived material is derived from grape juice.
- 4. A method according to claim 2, wherein said at least 25% polyphenols comprises the total polyphenol pool of red wine.
- 5. A method according to claim 1, wherein said composition further comprises an excipient, diluent or carrier.
- 6. A method according to claim 1, wherein said composition further comprises one or more substances selected from the group consisting of: nutrients, antioxidants, therapeutic substances, flavourings, and sweeteners.
- 7. A method according to claim 1, wherein said composition further comprises one or more substances selected from the group consisting of: lutein, lycopene, α- or β-carotene, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E (α-tocopherol and other active tocopherols), folic acid, selenium, copper, zinc, manganese, ubiquinone (coenzyme Q10), salicylic acid, 2,3-dihydroxy benzoic acid, 2,5-dihydroxy benzoic acid, and aspirin.
- 8. A method according to claim 1, wherein said composition is packaged in unitary dose form.
- 9. A method according to claim 8, wherein said composition is in the form of a tablet, capsule or pill.
- 10. A method according to claim 1, wherein said composition is administered as a drink, said drink made by mixing said composition with a physiologically acceptable liquid.
- 11. A method according to claim 10, wherein said physiologically acceptable liquid is selected from the group consisting of water, an aqueous solution, an alcoholic solution, fruit juice, milk, yogurt, or aqueous solution of Aloe Vera.
- 12. A method of inhibiting oxidation of plasma LDL in a human subject, the method including providing a.flavonol and anthocyanin containing dry composition prepared from plant-derived material selected from the group consisting of wine or grape juice, wherein the composition is water soluble and comprises at least 25% w/w polyphenols, the composition comprising at least 0.1% flavonol, and administering the composition to the subject in a therapeutically effective dosage.
- 13. A method according to claim 12, wherein said plant derived material is derived from wine.
- 14. A method according to claim 12, wherein said plant derived material is derived from grape juice.
- 15. A method according to claim 13, wherein said at least 25% polyphenols comprises the total polyphenol pool of red wine.
- 16. A method according to claim 12, wherein said composition further comprises an excipient, diluent or carrier.
- 17. A method according to claim 12, wherein said composition further comprises one or more substances selected from the group consisting of: nutrients, antioxidants, therapeutic substances, flavourings, and sweeteners.
- 18. A method according to claim 12, wherein said composition further comprises one or more substances selected from the group consisting of: lutein, lycopene, α- or β-carotene, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E (α-tocopherol and other active tocopherols), folic acid, selenium, copper, zinc, manganese, ubiquinone (coenzyme Q10), salicylic acid, 2,3-dihydroxy benzoic acid, 2,5-dihydroxy benzoic acid, and aspirin.
- 19. A method according to claim 12, wherein said composition is packaged in unitary dose form.
- 20. A method according to claim 19, wherein said composition is in the form of a tablet, capsule or pill.
- 21. A method according to claim 12, wherein said composition is administered as a drink, said drink made by mixing said composition with a physiologically acceptable liquid.
- 22. A method according to claim 21, wherein said physiologically acceptable liquid is selected from the group consisting of water, an aqueous solution, an alcoholic solution, fruit juice, milk, yogurt, or aqueous solution of Aloe Vera.
- 23. A method of stimulating TGF-β production in a human subject, the method including providing a flavonol and anthocyanin containing dry composition prepared from plant-derived material selected from the group consisting of wine or grape juice, wherein the composition is water soluble and comprises at least 25% w/w polyphenols, the composition comprising at least 0.1% flavonol, and administering the composition to the subject in a therapeutically effective dosage.
- 24. A method according to claim 23, wherein said plant derived material is derived from wine.
- 25. A method according to claim 23, wherein said plant derived material is derived from grape juice.
- 26. A method according to claim 24, wherein said at least 25% polyphenols comprises the total polyphenol pool of red wine.
- 27. A method according to claim 23, wherein said composition further comprises an excipient, diluent or carrier.
- 28. A method according to claim 23, wherein said composition further comprises one or more substances selected from the group consisting of: nutrients, antioxidants, therapeutic substances, flavourings, and sweeteners.
- 29. A method according to claim 23, wherein said composition further comprises one or more substances selected from the group consisting of: lutein, lycopene, α- or γ-carotene, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E (α-tocopherol and other active tocopherols), folic acid, selenium, copper, zinc, manganese, ubiquinone (coenzyme Q10), salicylic acid, 2,3-dihydroxy benzoic acid, 2,5-dihydroxy benzoic acid, and aspirin.
- 30. A method according to claim 23, wherein said composition is packaged in unitary dose form.
- 31. A method according to claim 30, wherein said composition is in the form of a tablet, capsule or pill.
- 32. A method according to claim 23, wherein said composition is administered as a drink, said drink made by mixing said composition with a physiologically acceptable liquid.
- 33. A method according to claim 32, wherein said physiologically acceptable liquid is selected from the group consisting of water, an aqueous solution, an alcoholic solution, fruit juice, milk, yogurt, or aqueous solution of Aloe Vera.
- 34. A method of inhibiting platelet aggregation or stimulating fibrinolysis in a human subject, the method including providing a flavonol and anthocyanin containing dry composition prepared from plant-derived material selected from the group consisting of wine and grape juice, wherein the composition is water soluble and comprises at least 25% w/w polyphenols, the composition comprising at least 0.1% flavonol, and administering the composition to the subject in a therapeutically effective dosage.
- 35. A method according to claim 34, wherein said plant derived material is derived from wine.
- 36. A method according to claim 34, wherein said plant derived material is derived from grape juice.
- 37. A method according to claim 35, wherein said at least 25% polyphenols comprises the total polyphenol pool of red wine.
- 38. A method according to claim 34, wherein said composition further comprises an excipient, diluent or carrier.
- 39. A method according to claim 34, wherein said composition further comprises one or more substances selected from the group consisting of: nutrients, antioxidants, therapeutic substances, flavourings, and sweeteners.
- 40. A method according to claim 34, wherein said composition further comprises one or more substances selected from the group consisting of: lutein, lycopene, α- or β-carotene, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E (α-tocopherol and other active tocopherols), folic acid, selenium, copper, zinc, manganese, ubiquinone (coenzyme Q10), salicylic acid, 2,3-dihydroxy benzoic acid, 2,5-dihydroxy benzoic acid, and aspirin.
- 41. A method according to claim 34, wherein said composition is packaged in unitary dose form.
- 42. A method according to claim 41, wherein said composition is in the form of a tablet, capsule or pill.
- 43. A method according to claim 34, wherein said composition is administered as a drink, said drink made by mixing said composition with a physiologically acceptable liquid.
- 44. A method according to claim 43, wherein said physiologically acceptable liquid is selected from the group consisting of water, an aqueous solution, an alcoholic solution, fruit juice, milk, yogurt, or aqueous solution of Aloe Vera.
