Claims
- 1. A lower limb prosthesis, comprising:a generally flat vertical upper section; an intermediate section extending generally downward and forward from said upper section and being capable of resiliently supporting directed forces applied during utilization of the prosthesis; a lower section comprising a forward portion, middle portion and rearward portion, whereby the forward and rearward portions are each characterized by an extended free-ended lever arm capable of providing vertical flexure; and one or more resilient members wedged directly between the intermediate section and the lower section, and being sized and arranged so as to determine the length of each extended lever arm.
- 2. The lower limb prosthesis of claim 1 wherein one resilient member is wedged between said forward portion of said lower section and said intermediate section and another resilient member is wedged between said rearward portion of said lower section and said intermediate section.
- 3. The lower limb prosthesis of claim 1, wherein said resilient members are sized and arranged so as to determine the effective deflecting length of forward and forward portions.
- 4. The lower limb prosthesis of claim 1, wherein one or more resilient members are compressed by surfaces of said intermediate and lower sections during ambulation of said lower limb prosthesis.
- 5. The lower limb prosthesis of claim 1, wherein said intermediate section connects to said lower section at the middle portion thereof.
- 6. The lower limb prosthesis of claim 1, wherein the forward portion, middle portion, and rearward portion of said lower section form a monolithic structure.
