Claims
- 1. A footwear structure comprising:a midsole; an outsole disposed below said midsole; and an upper at least partially defining a cavity for receiving a foot, said upper having a bottom portion positioned below said midsole and above said outsole, said bottom portion extending across an entire width and length of said midsole, and said bottom portion having a shank interlock portion interlocking with a corresponding shank interlock portion in said midsole, whereby interlocking of said shank interlock portions of said upper and said midsole resist motion of said midsole relative to said upper.
- 2. A footwear structure according to claim 1, wherein said outsole comprises a top surface having shank interlock portion that mates with said shank interlock portions in said midsole and said upper.
- 3. A footwear structure according to claim 2, wherein said upper is a molded upper integrally formed with said outsole.
- 4. A footwear structure according to claim 2, wherein said structure further comprises a shank component disposed between said midsole and said outsole, said shank having a shank interlock portion that mates with said shank interlock portions of said midsole, said upper, and said outsole.
- 5. A footwear structure according to claim 2, wherein said structure further comprises a reinforcing layer disposed between said midsole and said outsole.
- 6. A footwear structure according to claim 1, wherein said upper comprises a plurality of closure straps.
- 7. A footwear structure according to claim 1, wherein said midsole is removable from said upper.
- 8. A footwear structure according to claim 1, wherein said upper comprises a first portion that is removable from a second portion, and wherein said midsole is disposed within said first portion.
- 9. A footwear structure according to claim 1, wherein said upper comprises a molded receptacle, and wherein at least a portion of said midsole is disposed within said molded receptacle.
- 10. A footwear structure according to claim 1, wherein said midsole includes a plurality of layers.
- 11. A footwear structure according to claim 10, wherein the firmness of said layers decreases from a top layer of said midsole to a bottom layer of said midsole.
- 12. A footwear structure according to claim 1, wherein said shank interlock portions of said midsole and said upper comprises a continuous arc.
- 13. A footwear structure according to claim 1, wherein said shank interlock portions of said midsole and said upper comprises abrupt changes.
- 14. A footwear structure according to claim 1, wherein said midsole has a top surface which is contoured to define a footbed generally conforming to the bottom of a person's foot.
- 15. A footwear structure according to claim 1, wherein said midsole has an upwardly extending perimeter wall.
