Abstract
A forearm workout device comprising a ring member, a handle, and a chain. The handle is fixedly attached diametrically to inner sides of the ring member, where the chain is fixedly attached to an outer surface of the ring member. The chain comprises a coupling member attached to a distal end of the chain, where the coupling member is configured to attach different types of loads. The user is allowed to hold the handle member and tilt the ring member in a variety of forearm movements of the user's hand to enable workouts for the forearm of the user's hand.
Description
BACKGROUND

Most of the sports activities involve a wide-range use of the wrists and forearms of an athlete. Athletes, especially who are involved in playing baseball, golf, and racquet sports, such as, tennis and badminton, use their wrists and forearms to strike a ball. Other athletes who perform gymnastics make use of their wrists and forearms to demonstrate a variety of exercises, and such performers require a considerable amount of strength in their forearms to perform such exercises. Therefore, development of strength of an athlete's wrists and forearms should improve the athlete's ability to perform in his or her respective sporting activity.


Another sport, which requires considerable strength in the forearms, is arm wrestling. Forearm and wrist strength is very vital to the arm wrestler for several reasons, the most important being leverage, since arm wrestling is a leverage sport. The arm wrestler tries to obtain leverage with body positioning, hand positioning, arm positioning, and even the foot adjustment. The leverage gained by superior forearm and wrist strength is perhaps the most important leverage of all, and the muscles that support the superior forearm and ligaments should be rigid and strong. Conventional muscle developing devices for firming muscles in the wrists and superior forearms usually permit an athlete to perform workouts that only toughen specific muscles in the wrists and forearms. Generally, a straight bar with weights attached to both ends, or using dumb-bell weights, are be used to perform wrist curl workouts to strengthen specific muscles in an athlete's wrists and forearms. However, the straight bar with weights cannot be used to accomplish a variety of wrist and forearm strengthening exercises since the straight bar with weights is more suitable only for common body building exercises.


Hand-held devices, which use a compressive action of the fingers, such as spring handgrips, also enable the athlete to improve and strengthen specific muscles in the exerciser's wrists and forearms. Such hand-held devices, unfortunately limits a variety of wrist and forearm strengthening workouts. However, athletes involved in playing sports that require extensive wrist movement, as mentioned above, need to move their forearms flexibly with firm pronation and supination motions. Pronation and supination are a pair of unique movements possible only in the forearms and hands, permitting the human body to flip the palm face up or face down. The muscles, bones, and joints of the human forearm are specifically arranged to allow these unique and important rotations of the hands. Therefore, the muscles that support such pronation and supination movements must be focused on and strengthened to improve the fitness of such athletes.


Hence, there is a long felt but unresolved need for a forearm workout device, which allows a pronation movement and a supination movement of the forearms of a user, which enables the user to workout and strengthen the forearms.


SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The forearm workout device disclosed herein addresses the above-mentioned need to allow a user to perform pronation movement and a supination movement of the forearms, which enables the user to workout and strengthen the forearms. The forearm workout device comprises a ring member, a handle, and a chain. The handle is fixedly attached diametrically to inner sides of the ring member, and an end of the chain is fixedly attached to a point on an outer surface of the ring member. The chain comprises a coupling member attached to a distal end of the chain, where the coupling member is configured to attach different types of loads. The user is allowed to hold the handle member and tilt the ring member in a variety of forearm movements of the user's hand to enable workouts for forearm of the user's hand.


In an embodiment, the chain is fixedly attached to an outer surface of the ring member, at a point perpendicular to a length of the handle. In an embodiment, the variety of forearm movements of the user's hand comprises a pronation movement, a supination movement. In an embodiment, the forearm workout device further comprises gripping grooves positioned on the handle configured to allow the user to grip the handle. In an embodiment, the forearm workout device further comprises an opening positioned on the ring member, diametrically opposite to the point of attachment of the chain on the ring member, where the opening is configured to attach counter loads. In an embodiment, the coupling member attached to the distal end of the chain is a carabineer.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION


FIG. 1 exemplarily illustrates a front elevation view of the forearm workout device 100. The forearm workout device 100 as disclosed herein is a wrist and forearm pronation and supination training tool. The forearm workout device 100 is made from industrial strength materials, and is therefore durable and effective. The forearm workout device 100 comprises a ring member 101, a handle 102, and a chain 103. As used herein, the terms “pronation” and “supination”, refers to a pair of unique movements possible only in the forearms and hands, permitting the human body to flip the palm either face up or face down. Here, athletes involved in playing sports, such as, badminton, tennis, etc, who require extreme wrist movements, need to move their forearms flexibly with stable pronation and supination movements. Therefore, the corresponding muscles that allow such motions should be strong. The forearm workout device 100 is developed to provide training predominantly in arm wrestling but could be used for a variety of other fitness needs.



FIG. 2 exemplarily illustrates a front perspective view of the forearm workout device 100. The forearm workout device 100 comprises a ring member 101, a handle 102, and a chain 103. The handle 102 is fixedly attached diametrically to inner sides 101a of the ring member 101, and an end 103a of the chain is fixedly attached to a point on an outer surface 101b of the ring member 101. The chain 103 is, for example, a size 60 size chain. The chain 103 comprises a coupling member 104 attached to a distal end 103b of the chain 103, where the coupling member 104 is configured to attach different types of loads. The user is allowed to hold the handle 102 member and tilt the ring member 101 in a variety of forearm movements of the user's hand to enable workouts for forearm of the user's hand.


In an embodiment, the chain 103 is fixedly attached to the outer surface 103b of the ring member 101, at a point perpendicular to a length of the handle 102. In an embodiment, the variety of forearm movements of the user's hand performed by the forearm workout device 100 comprises a pronation movement or a supination movement. In an embodiment, the forearm workout device 100 further comprises gripping grooves 105 positioned on the handle 102 configured to allow the user to grip the handle 102. In an embodiment, the coupling member 104 attached to the distal end 103b of the chain 103 is, for example, a carabineer. Here, as shown in FIG. 2, two carabineers 107 and 108 are connected together to receive connections from multiple other types of loads.



FIG. 3A-3B exemplarily illustrates a front perspective view of the forearm workout device 100 held by the user to perform a supination movement and a pronation movement to workout the forearm 302. Here, the chain 103 is loaded with a load 303 via the coupling member 104. Referring to FIG. 3A, the hand 301 is positioned to perform the supination movement. Here, the palm of the hand 301 faces upwards, and the dorsum of the hand 301 faces downwards, and the handle 102 is held in the hand 301 of the user in this initial position. Then, the handle 102 is tilted 90 degrees in an anticlockwise direction, from the users view point, to complete one movement of supination, as shown by the curved arrow along the X-Y plane in FIG. 3A. A few sets of such supination movements are performed in a cycle to strengthen the muscles that allow such movements.


Referring to FIG. 3B, the hand 301 is positioned to perform the pronation movement. Here, the palm of the hand 301 faces downwards, and the dorsum of the hand 301 faces upwards, and the handle 102 is held in the hand 301 of the user in this initial position. Then the handle 102 is tilted 90 degrees in a clockwise direction, from the users view point, to complete one movement of pronation, as shown by the curved arrow along the X-Y plane in FIG. 3B. A few sets of such pronation movements are performed in a cycle to strengthen the muscles that allow such movements. In an embodiment, the user can rotate the handle 102 in a complete rotation of 180 degrees, where the hand 301 is rotated from a supination position to a pronation movement. In this case, the user can perform alternate clockwise and anticlockwise rotations of 180 degree each to provide workout for the forearm 302 muscles. Therefore, such extensive workout comprising the supination and pronation movements of the hand 301, provide a user, especially an arm wrestler to strengthen his/her superior forearms 302, as well as other muscles and ligaments which help in providing strength and leverage during an arm wrestling competition.


In another embodiment, the chain 103 can be loaded with cables from exercise machines used in conventional gymnasiums, the carabineer is attached to these cables and the hand 301 is rotated in supination movement and pronation movement of the forearm 302, according to the direction of connection of the cable from the exercise machine. Weights which are stacked in a column along a vertical track, which comprise loading pins to vary the weights at desired intervals of workout, can also be coupled with the chain 103 which enables the user to workout the forearms 302 at different weights in a progressive manner. The forearm workout device 100 has also been used with different weight loads attached. The forearm workout device 100 provides free range of motion to hit any angle with a smooth feel and rotation. The forearm workout device 100 is strong and versatile for all wrist and forearm 302 needs.

Claims
  • 1. A forearm workout device, comprising: a ring member;a handle fixedly attached diametrically to inner sides of the ring member; anda chain, wherein an end of the chain is fixedly attached to a point on an outer surface of the ring member, wherein the chain comprises a coupling member attached to a distal end of the chain, wherein the coupling member is configured to attach different types of loads, wherein the user is allowed to hold the handle member and tilt the ring member in a variety of forearm movements of the user's hand to enable workouts for forearm of the user's hand.
  • 2. The forearm workout device of claim 1, wherein the chain is fixedly attached to an outer surface of the ring member, at a point perpendicular to a length of the handle.
  • 3. The forearm workout device of claim 1, wherein the variety of forearm movements of the user's hand comprises one or combination of a pronation movement and a supination movement.
  • 4. The forearm workout device of claim 1, further comprising gripping grooves positioned on the handle configured to allow the user to grip the handle.
  • 5. The forearm workout device of claim 1, further comprising an opening positioned on the ring member, diametrically opposite to the point of attachment of the chain on the ring member, wherein the opening is configured to attach counter loads.
  • 6. The forearm workout device of claim 1, wherein the coupling member attached to the distal end of the chain is a carabineer.
