Claims
- 1. Apparatus comprising:
- a first optical energy source including a first optical exciter of a first frequency and a first frequency converter coupled to be excited by said first optical exciter;
- a first waveguide segment coupled to carry optical energy from at least said first optical energy source; and
- a plurality of controllable optical redirectors disposed along said first waveguide segment, each of said optical redirectors being controllable to reflect optical energy out of said first waveguide segment.
- 2. Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said first frequency converter comprises a frequency doubler.
- 3. Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said optical energy from said first optical energy source has a first frequency, further comprising:
- a second optical energy source producing optical energy of a second frequency different from said first frequency; and
- a coupler arranged to couple into said first-waveguide segment both said optical energy from said first optical energy source and optical energy from said second optical energy source.
- 4. Apparatus according to claim 3, wherein said second optical energy source does not include said first frequency converter.
- 5. Apparatus according to claim 4, wherein said second optical energy source does not include said first optical exciter.
- 6. Apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising a modulator coupled between said first optical energy source and said first waveguide segment.
- 7. Apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising a plurality of second waveguide segments each disposed to collect optical energy reflected out of said first waveguide segment by a respective one of said controllable optical redirectors.
- 8. Apparatus according to claim 7, comprising a display material carrying said first waveguide segment and each of said second waveguide segments,
- wherein each of said second waveguides has an optical energy output,
- further comprising a plurality of pixel structures each redirecting out of said material optical energy from the optical energy output of a respective one of said second waveguides.
- 9. Apparatus according to claim 7, further comprising a respective further plurality of controllable optical redirectors disposed along each of said second waveguide segments, each of the optical redirectors in said further pluralities being controllable to reflect optical energy out of one of said second waveguide segments.
- 10. Apparatus according to claim 1, comprising a display material carrying said first waveguide segment,
- further comprising a plurality of pixel structures each redirecting out of said material optical energy reflected out of said first waveguide segment by a respective one of said controllable optical redirectors.
- 11. Apparatus according to claim 1, comprising a display material carrying said first waveguide segment,
- further comprising a plurality of pixel structures each re-radiating optical energy out of said material in response to optical energy reflected out of said first waveguide segment by a respective one of said controllable optical redirectors.
