Claims
- 1. A from derailleur apparatus attachable to a frame of a bicycle for shifting a chain between a small sprocket and a large sprocket comprising:
- a fixed section for attaching said front derailleur to said frame;
- a movable section positioned above said fixed section for moving between first and second positions with respect to said fixed section;
- a chain guide attached to said movable section for contacting said chain to shift said chain;
- wherein said first position corresponds to a position of said chain guide when said chain guide is facing said small sprocket;
- wherein said second position corresponds to a position of said chain guide when said chain guide is facing said large sprocket;
- a first pivotal link disposed between said fixed section and said movable section for movably supporting said movable section with respect to said fixed section, said first pivotal link being supported to said fixed section to pivot about a first pivotal axis, said pivotal link being supported to said movable section to pivot about a second pivotal axis, a phantom line extending through said first pivotal axis and said second pivotal axis being tilted inwardly of said bicycle with respect to a vertical line of said bicycle when said movable section is in said first position, said phantom line being tilted outwardly of said bicycle with respect to said vertical line when said movable section is in said second position; and
- a second pivotal link disposed outwardly of said bicycle with respect to said first pivotal link and pivotably attached to said fixed section and to said movable section for movably supporting said movable section with respect to said fixed section in cooperation with said first pivotal link.
- 2. A front derailleur as defined in claim 1, wherein
- a tilt angle of said phantom line with respect to said vertical line when said movable section is in said first position is greater than a tilt angle of said phantom line when said movable section is in said second position.
- 3. A front derailleur as defined in claim 1, wherein said first and second pivotal axes are parallel to each other, and said first and second pivotal axes are positioned for overlapping with said bicycle frame viewed along said first and second pivotal axes.
- 4. A front derailleur as defined in claim 1, wherein
- said movable section having an adjusting screw for adjusting a stroke end of said movable section with respect to said fixed section, one of said first and second movable links having a contact portion for contacting said adjusting screw.
- 5. A front derailleur apparatus attachable to a frame of a bicycle for shifting a chain between a small sprocket and a large sprocket comprising:
- a fixed section for attaching said from derailleur to said frame;
- a movable section positioned above said fixed section for moving between first and second positions with respect to said fixed section;
- a chain guide attached to said movable section for contacting said chain to shift said chain;
- wherein said first position corresponds to a position of said chain guide when said chain guide is facing said small sprocket;
- wherein said second position corresponds to a position of said chain guide when said chain guide is facing said large sprocket;
- a first pivotal link disposed between said fixed section and said movable section for movably supporting said movable section with respect to said fixed section, said first pivotal link being supported to said fixed section to pivot about a first pivotal axis, said pivotal link being supported to said movable section to pivot about a second pivotal axis, said second pivotal axis positioned on one side of a vertical line of said bicycle viewed along said first pivotal axis when said movable section is in said first position, and said pivotal axis positioned on the other side of said vertical line when said movable section is in said second position; and
- a second pivotal link disposed outwardly of said bicycle with respect to said first pivotal link and pivotably attached to said fixed section and to said movable section for movably supporting said movable section with respect to said fixed section in cooperation with said first pivotal link.
- 6. A front derailleur apparatus attachable to a frame of a bicycle for shifting a chain between a small sprocket and a large sprocket, said front derailleur apparatus comprising:
- a fixed section for attaching said front derailleur to said frame;
- a movable section positioned above said fixed section for moving between first and second positions with respect to said fixed section;
- a chain guide attached to said movable section for contacting said chain to shift said chain;
- wherein said first position corresponds to a position of said chain guide when said chain guide is facing said small sprocket;
- wherein said second position corresponds to a position of said chain guide when said chain guide is facing said large sprocket;
- a first pivotal link disposed between said fixed section and said movable section for movably supporting said movable section with respect to said fixed section, said first pivotal link being supported to said fixed section to pivot about a first pivotal axis, said pivotal link being supported to said movable section to pivot about a second pivotal axis, a phantom line extending through said first and second pivotal axes being tilted away from said small and large sprocket when said movable section is in said first position, and said phantom line being tilted toward said small and large sprocket when said movable section is in said second position; and
- a second pivotal link disposed outwardly of said bicycle with respect to said first pivotal link and pivotably attached to said fixed section and to said movable section for movably supporting said movable section with respect to said fixed section in cooperation with said first pivotal link.
- 7. A front derailleur apparatus attachable to a frame of a bicycle for shifting a chain between a small sprocket and a large sprocket comprising:
- a fixed section for attaching said front derailleur to said frame;
- a movable section positioned above said fixed section for moving between a first transverse position and a second transverse position with respect to said fixed section;
- a chain guide attached to said movable section for contacting said chain to shift said chain;
- a first pivotal link extending upwardly and disposed between said fixed section and said movable section for movably supporting said movable section with respect to said fixed section, said first pivotal link being supported to said fixed section to pivot about a first pivotal axis, said first pivotal link being supported to said movable section to pivot about a second pivotal axis, a phantom line extending through said first pivotal axis and said second pivotal axis being tilted to one side of a vertical line when said movable section is in said first transverse position, said phantom line being tilted to an opposite side of said vertical line when said movable section is in said second transverse position; and
- a second pivotal link extending upwardly, disposed outwardly with respect to said first pivotal link and disposed between said fixed section and said movable section for movably supporting said movable section with respect to said fixed section in cooperation with said first pivotal link.
- 8. A front derailleur as defined in claim 7 wherein a first end of said first pivotal link is pivotably connected to said fixed section, wherein a second end of said first pivotal link is pivotably connected to said movable section, wherein a first end of said second pivotal link is pivotably connected to said fixed section, and wherein a second end of said second pivotal link is pivotably connected to said movable section.
- 9. A front derailleur as defined in claim 7 wherein said chain guide is positioned above said fixed section.
- 10. A front derailleur as defined in claim 7, wherein a tilt angle of said phantom line with respect to said vertical line when said movable section is in said first transverse position is greater than a tilt angle of said phantom line when said movable section is in said second transverse position.
- 11. A front derailleur as defined in claim 7, wherein said first and second pivotal axes are parallel to each other, and said first and second pivotal axes are positioned for overlapping with said bicycle frame viewed along said first and second pivotal axes.
- 12. A front derailleur as defined in claim 7, wherein said movable section includes an adjusting screw for adjusting a stroke end of said movable section with respect to said fixed section, one of said first and second movable links having a contact portion for contacting said adjusting screw.
- 13. A front derailleur apparatus attachable to a frame of a bicycle for shifting a chain between a small sprocket and a large sprocket comprising:
- a fixed section for attaching said front derailleur to said frame;
- a movable section positioned above said fixed section for moving between a low speed position and a high speed position with respect to said fixed section;
- a chain guide attached to said movable section for contacting said chain to shift said chain;
- a first pivotal link extending upwardly and disposed between said fixed section and said movable section for movably supporting said movable section with respect to said fixed section, said first pivotal link being supported to said fixed section to pivot about a first pivotal axis, said first pivotal link being supported to said movable section to pivot about a second pivotal axis, a phantom line extending through said first pivotal axis and said second pivotal axis being tilted to one side of a vertical line when said movable section is in said low speed position, said phantom line being tilted to an opposite side of said vertical line when said movable section is in said high speed position; and
- a second pivotal link extending upwardly, disposed outwardly with respect to said first pivotal link and disposed between said fixed section and said movable section for movably supporting said movable section with respect to said fixed section in cooperation with said first pivotal link.
- 14. A front derailleur as defined in claim 13, wherein a first end of said first pivotal link is pivotably connected to said fixed section, wherein a second end of said first pivotal link is pivotably connected to said movable section, wherein a first end of said second pivotal link is pivotably connected to said fixed section, and wherein a second end of said second pivotal link is pivotably connected to said movable section.
- 15. A front derailleur as defined in claim 13, wherein said chain guide is positioned above said fixed section.
- 16. A front derailleur as defined in claim 13, wherein a tilt angle of said phantom line with respect to said vertical line when said movable section is in said low speed position is greater than a tilt angle of said phantom line when said movable section is in said high speed position.
- 17. A front derailleur as defined in claim 13, wherein said first and second pivotal axes are parallel to each other, and said first and second pivotal axes are positioned for overlapping with said bicycle frame viewed along said first and second pivotal axes.
- 18. A front derailleur as defined in claim 13, wherein said movable section includes an adjusting screw for adjusting a stroke end of said movable section with respect to said fixed section, one of said first and second movable links having a contact portion for contacting said adjusting screw.
