Claims
- 1. In combination in a refuse loader,
- a refuse storage body having a roof and having an opening in the roof,
- a door movable to open and close the opening in the roof,
- means for supporting the door for pivotable movement between a horizontal position closing the opening and a vertical position exposing the opening,
- hydraulic means operatively coupled to the support means for providing a movement of the door between the horizontal and vertical positions,
- means operatively coupled to the hydraulic means for providing a first positive force on the door during the movement of the door to the horizontal position to provide for a packing into the storage body of refuse introduced into the storage body through the opening in the roof,
- means operatively coupled to the hydraulic means for increasing, automatically and without manual intervention, the positive force on the door to a greater force than the first positive force near the end of the movement of the door to the horizontal position to insure the packing into the storage body of the refuse introduced into the storage body through the opening in the roof, and
- latching means operatively coupled to the door and to the top of the storage body for latching the door to the storage body upon a movement of the door to the horizontal position and for providing an unlatching of the door from the storage body upon the initiation of a movement of the door to the opened position.
- 2. In combination in a refuse loader,
- a refuse storage body having a roof and having an opening in the roof,
- a door movable to open and close the opening in the roof,
- means for supporting the door for pivotable movement between a horizontal position closing the opening and a vertical position exposing the opening,
- hydraulic means operatively coupled to the support means for providing a movement of the door between the horizontal and vertical positions,
- means operatively coupled to the hydraulic means for providing a first positive force on the door during the movement of the door to the horizontal position to provide a packing into the storage body of refuse introduced into the storage body through the opening in the roof,
- means operatively coupled to the hydraulic means for increasing, automatically and without manual intervention, the positive force on the door to a greater force than the first positive force near the end of the movement of the door to the horizontal position to insure the packing into the storage body of the refuse introduced into the storage body through the opening in the roof, and
- windscreens movable with the door to the opened position and cooperative with the door in the opened position to inhibit the blowing of refuse from the storage body and biased to the closed position.
- 3. In combination in a refuse loader,
- a refuse storage body,
- an opening in the top of the storage body,
- at least one door movable in the top of the storage body between positions for opening and closing the opening,
- drive means for providing a movement of the door between the opened and closed positions,
- windscreen means disposed at the opening in the top of the storage body in a direction transverse to the door and movable independently of the door between opened and closed positions and operatively disposed relative to the door for movement to the opened position in accordance with the movement of the door to the opened position,
- means operatively coupled to the windscreen means for biasing the windscreen means to the closed position, and
- means disposed relative to the door and the windscreen means for cushioning the disposition of the windscreen means relative to the door and the top of the storage body in the closed position of the door.
- 4. The combination set forth in claim 3, including
- the windscreen means being constructed to rest on door in the closed position of the door, and
- the cushioning means being disposed for cushioning the disposition of the windscreen means on the door in the closed position of the door.
- 5. The combination set forth in claim 3, including
- means for providing for the exertion of a positive force of a first magnitude on the door by the drive means during the movement of the door to the closed position, and
- means for increasing the force exerted by the drive means on the door to a second magnitude greater than the first magnitude as the door approaches the closed position to insure the insertion of the refuse into the storage body by the door and the closing of the door.
- 6. The combination set forth in claim 3 wherein
- the door is provided with an edge constructed to provide a shearing action on refuse introduced into the storage body of at least a particular size through the opening in the storage body.
- 7. A front end loader comprising:
- a refuse storage body mounted on a supporting vehicle,
- an upper opening into said storage body for depositing refuse within the body,
- means on said vehicle for lifting a refuse container to dump refuse from the container into said storage body through said upper opening and for thereafter lowering said container,
- closure means positioned adjacent said upper opening and movable between an open and closed position,
- means for moving the closure means to the opened position in accordance with the operation of the lifting means in moving the container to the position providing a dumping of refuse into the storage body and for providing a force of a first magnitude to close the closure means,
- means operatively coupled to the moving means for providing a force on the closure means, automatically and without manual intervention, of a second magnitude greater than the first magnitude as the closure means approach the closed position to provide for a packing of the refuse in the storage body by the closure means, and
- windscreen means movable between open and closed positions and biased to the closed positions and operatively coupled to the closure means for movement with the closure means to the open position and cooperative with the closure means for insuring movement of the refuse into the storage body through the opening.
- 8. The front end loader of claim 7, including,
- detent means disposed on the storage body, and
- latching means disposed on the closure means and cooperative with the detent means for latching the closure means to the storage body in the closed position of the closure means and for disengaging from this latching relationship when the closure means are raised to the open position.
- 9. In combination in a refuse loader,
- a refuse storage body,
- an opening in the top of the refuse body,
- at least one door pivotable between positions for opening and closing the opening in the top of the storage body,
- hydraulic means operatively coupled to the door for providing a pivotal movement of the door between the opened and closed position,
- latching means providing a cooperative relationship between the door and the top of the storage body for latching the door to the storage body upon a pivotal movement of the door to the closed position and for providing for a disengagement of the door from the storage body upon a pivotal movement of the door from the closed position,
- means operatively coupled to the hydraulic means and the door in a lost-motion arrangement for initially providing for a pivotal movement of the latching means by the hydraulic means, in a plane transverse to the plane of the door, in the closed position of the door for disengaging the latching means to obtain thereafter an opening of the door and for providing for a pivotal movement of the latching means by the hydraulic means, in a plane transverse to the plane of the door, in the closed position of the door to engage the latching means, and
- a windscreen disposed in cooperative relationship with the door and movable between opened and closed positions and movable to the opened position in accordance with the movement of the door to the opened position and biased for movement to the closed position and cooperative with the door in the opened position for inhibiting any blowing of refuse from the storage body,
- the door being pivotably disposed on the top of the storage body and the windscreen being pivotably disposed on the top of the storage body in substantially perpendicular relationship to the door and in the path of pivotal movement of the door to become opened by the door as the door is opened.
- 10. In combination in a refuse loader, a refuse storage body, an opening in the top of the refuse body, at least one door pivotable between positions for opening and closing the opening in the top of the storage body, hudraulic means operatively coupled to the door for providing a pivotal movement of the door between the opened and closed position, latching means providing a cooperative relationship between the door and the top of the storage body for latching the door to the storage body upon a pivotal movement of the door to the closed position and for providing for a disengagement of the door from the storage body upon a pivotal movement of the door from the closed position, means operatively coupled to the hydraulic means and the door in a lost-motion arrangement for initially providing for a pivotal movement of the latching means by the hydraulic means, in a plane transverse to the plane of the door, in the closed position of the door for disengaging the latching means to obtain thereafter an opening of the door and for providing for a pivotal movement of the latching means by the hydraulic means, in a plane transverse to the plane of the door, in the closed position of the door to engage the latching means, means operatively coupled to the hydraulic means for imposing a positive force of a first magnitude on the door to provide for the pivotal movement of the door to the closed position, and means operatively coupled to the hydraulic means for imposing a positive force, automatically and without manual intervention, on the door of a second magnitude greater than the first magnitude as the door approches the closed position to insure that the door closes against any force exerted on the door by the refuse.
