- 2. The fluid injection apparatus of claim 1 wherein the at least first and second jacket portions are formed from substantially clear plastic.
- 3. The fluid injection apparatus of claim 1 wherein the at least first and second jacket portions substantially define a semi-cylindrical shape.
- 4. The fluid injection apparatus of claim 1 wherein said pressure jacket, when in the closed position, is disposed around an axis, and the at least one hinge member is substantially aligned with the axis.
- 5. The fluid injection apparatus of claim 1 wherein the at least first and second jacket portions comprise three or more jacket portions.
- 6. A fluid injection apparatus for use with a syringe, the fluid injection apparatus comprising:
- an injector comprising a housing defining a front opening therein and drive means extendible through the front opening of the housing for imparting motive force to a plunger disposed within the syringe; and
- a pressure jacket assembly associated with the housing for substantially enclosing the syringe during an injection procedure, the pressure jacket assembly comprising at least first and second jacket portions having interior surfaces conformable to substantial portions of an exterior surface of the syringe, each jacket portion comprising a front end and a rear end, at least one of the at least first and second jacket portions comprising a hinge member for rotational coupling to the housing of the injector, and at least one of the at least first and second jacket portions being articulable between an open position for allowing insertion and removal of the syringe, and a closed position wherein the pressure jacket portions are adapted to engage substantial portions of the exterior surface of the syringe.
- 7. The fluid injection apparatus of claim 6 further comprising means for securing the at least first and second jacket portions together.
- 8. The fluid injection apparatus of claim 7 wherein the securing means comprises a locking ring slidably disposed around the at least first and second jacket portions, said locking ring being positioned near the front ends of the at least first and second jacket portions when the jacket portions are in the closed position, and said locking ring being positioned near the rear ends of the at least first and second jacket portions when the jacket portions are in the open position.
- 9. The fluid injection apparatus of claim 6 wherein the at least first and second jacket portions are formed from substantially clear plastic.
- 10. The fluid injection apparatus of claim 6 wherein the first jacket half is disposed above the second jacket half.
- 11. The fluid injection apparatus of claim 6 further comprising a link coupling the at least first and second jacket portions, said link regulating the movement of the at least first and second jacket portions such that the jacket portions move away from and toward each other at approximately the same rate.
- 12. A fluid injection apparatus for use with a syringe, the fluid injection apparatus comprising:
- an injector comprising a housing defining a front opening therein and drive means extendible through the front opening of the housing for imparting motive force to a plunger disposed within the syringe;
- a first jacket portion connected to the housing of said injector, said first jacket portion defining an interior surface conformable to a like portion of an exterior surface of the syringe;
- a second jacket portion operably connected to at least one of said first jacket portion and the housing of said injector, said second jacket portion defining an interior surface conformable to another portion of the exterior surface of the syringe, said second jacket portion being articulable with respect to at least one of said first jacket portion and the housing of said injector between an open position for permitting the insertion and removal of the syringe, and a closed position in which said first and second jacket portions cooperate for supporting and substantially enclosing the syringe on said injector; and
- a closure connectively associated with one of said first and second jacket portions for securing one of said jacket portions to the other of said jacket portions when said first and second jacket portions are in the closed position.
- 13. The fluid injection apparatus of claim 12, further comprising at least a third jacket portion for supporting the syringe on said injector.
- 14. A fluid injection apparatus for use with a syringe, the fluid injection apparatus comprising:
- an injector comprising a housing defining a front opening therein and drive means extendible through the front opening of the housing for imparting motive force to a plunger disposed within the syringe; and
- a pressure jacket assembly comprising
- at least first and second jacket segments operable for engaging a substantial portion of an exterior surface of the syringe,
- a mechanism for allowing the first jacket segment to move in relation to the second jacket segment to enable insertion of the syringe into said pressure jacket assembly and removal of the syringe from said pressure jacket assembly, and
- means for securing the pressure jacket segments in a fixed relationship upon insertion of the syringe to retain the syringe therein.
- 15. The fluid injection apparatus of claim 14 wherein the at least first and second jacket segments comprise three or more jacket segments.
- 16. The fluid injection apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a closure for securing the at least first and second jacket portions together.
- 17. The fluid injection apparatus of claim 16 wherein the closure comprises a latch associated with one of the at least first and second jacket portions.
- 18. The fluid injection apparatus of claim 16 wherein the closure comprises a ring slidably disposed around the at least first and second jacket portions.
- 19. The fluid injection apparatus of claim 12 wherein the closure comprises a latch associated with one of the first and second jacket portions.
- 20. The fluid injection apparatus of claim 12 wherein the closure comprises a ring slidably disposed around the first and second jacket portions.
- 21. The fluid injection apparatus of claim 12 wherein the second jacket portion is operably connected to the first jacket portion.
