Claims
- 1. A method of providing syringe information to an injector, comprising:
- providing an injector comprising a motor operable to drive a piston, a housing comprising at least one retaining flange, a sensor associated with the housing and a control unit in communication with the sensor and the motor;
- providing a syringe comprising a body comprising at least one mounting flange, a plunger disposed within the body and an encoding device associated with the body and providing syringe information;
- rotating the at least one mounting flange of the syringe to cause engagement with the at least one retaining flange on the injector housing;
- reading the syringe information provided by the encoding device as the syringe is rotated to cause engagement with the injector; and
- forwarding the syringe information from the sensor to the control unit.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the sensor is associated with the housing proximate to the at least one retaining flange.

- 6. The method of claim 1, further comprising controlling the motor based on the syringe information.
- 7. A method of providing syringe information to an injector, comprising:
- providing an injector comprising a motor operable to drive a piston, a housing comprising at least one retaining flange, a sensor associated with the housing and a control unit in communication with the sensor and the motor;
- providing an encoding device providing syringe information;
- rotating the encoding device to cause engagement with the at least one retaining flange on the housing; and
- reading the syringe information provided by the encoding device as the encoding device is rotated to cause engagement with the injector.
- 8. The method of claim 7 wherein the sensor is associated with housing proximate to the at least one retaining flange.
- 9. The method of claim 7 wherein the encoding device is associated with a syringe.
- 10. The method of claim 9 wherein the encoding device is disposed on the syringe.
- 11. The method of claim 7 wherein the encoding device comprises at least one mounting flange operable to engage the at least one retaining flange on the housing of the injector.
- 12. An encoding device for use with an injector comprising a motor operable to drive a piston, a housing comprising at least one retaining flange, a sensor associated with the housing and a control unit in communication with the sensor and the motor, the encoding device providing syringe information and operable to engage the at least one retaining flange on the housing, the sensor operable to read the syringe information provided by the encoding device as the encoding device is rotated to cause engagement with the at least one retaining flange and to forward the syringe information to the control unit, the control unit operable to receive the syringe information from the sensor and to control the motor of the injector based on the syringe information.
- 13. The encoding device of claim 12 wherein the encoding device is associated with a syringe.
- 14. The encoding device of claim 13 wherein the encoding device is disposed on the syringe.
- 15. The encoding device of claim 12 comprising at least one mounting flange operable to engage the at least one retaining flange on the housing.
- 16. A method of providing syringe information to an injector, comprising:
- providing an injector comprising a motor operable to drive a piston, a housing comprising at least one retaining flange, a sensor associated with the housing and a control unit in communication with the sensor and the motor;
- providing a syringe comprising a body comprising at least one mounting flange, a plunger disposed within the body and an encoding device associated with the at least one mounting flange and providing syringe information;
- associating the syringe with the at least one retaining flange on the injector housing;
- reading the syringe information provided by the encoding device as the syringe is associated with the injector; and
- forwarding the syringe information from the sensor to the control unit.
- 17. The method of claim 16 wherein the sensor is associated with the housing proximate to the at least one retaining flange.
- 18. The method of claim 16, further comprising controlling the motor based on the syringe information.
- 19. A method of providing syringe information to an injector, comprising:
- providing an injector comprising a motor operable to drive a piston, a housing comprising at least one retaining flange, a sensor associated with the housing and a control unit in communication with the sensor and the motor;
- providing a syringe comprising a body comprising at least one mounting flange, a plunger disposed within the body and an encoding device disposed on the at least one mounting flange and providing syringe information;
- associating the syringe with the at least one retaining flange on the injector housing;
- reading the syringe information provided by the encoding device as the syringe is associated with the injector; and
- forwarding the syringe information from the sensor to the control unit.
- 20. The method of claim 19 wherein the sensor is associated with the housing proximate to the at least one retaining flange.
- 21. The method of claim 19, further comprising controlling the motor based on the syringe information.
