Claims
- 1. A support for a recreational vehicle, the support comprising:
an elongated body having a front side defined by a forward direction of travel of a recreational vehicle and a rear side defined by a rearward direction of a recreational vehicle; a first protrusion projecting from the front side of said body; a second protrusion projecting from the rear side of said body, one of said front protrusion and said rear protrusion being adapted to be moveably connected to a portion of a suspension system of the vehicle, the other of said front protrusion and said rear protrusion being adapted to be moveably connected to a portion of a steering system of a vehicle; and said elongated body being adapted to be connected to a ground engaging element of a vehicle.
- 2. The support of claim 1, wherein said protrusions are integral with said body.
- 3. The support of claim 2, wherein said support is an aluminum extrusion.
- 4. The support of claim 3, wherein said aluminum extrusion has a direction of extrusion perpendicular to a forward direction of travel of the vehicle.
- 5. The support of claim 1, wherein said support further comprises a third protrusion, said third protrusion projecting from the same side of said elongated body as the one of said first protrusion and said second protrusion adapted to be connected to a portion of a suspension system.
- 6. The support of claim 5, wherein said third protrusion is integral with said body.
- 7. The support of claim 6, wherein the one of said first protrusion and said second protrusion adapted to be connected to a portion of a steering system of the vehicle is located at an intermediate position between the other of said first protrusion and said second protrusion adapted to be connected to a portion of a suspension system of said vehicle and said third protrusion.
- 8. The support of claim 6, wherein said support is an aluminum extrusion having a direction of extrusion perpendicular to a forward direction of travel of a vehicle.
- 9. The support of claim 7, wherein the vehicle is a snowmobile and said ground-engaging element is a ski.
- 10. The support of claim 7, wherein the support has an axis of rotation defined by a line which passes through the one of said first protrusion and said second protrusion adapted to be connected to a suspension system and said third protrusion.
- 11. The support of claim 10, wherein said axis is 10° to 30° from vertical.
- 12. The support of claim 11, wherein said axis is 15° to 25° from vertical.
- 13. The support of claim 12, wherein said axis is 20° from vertical.
- 14. A vehicle having a suspension system comprising:
a first suspension element pivotally connected to the vehicle; and a support having:
an elongated body having a front side defined by a forward direction of the recreational vehicle and a rear side defined by a rearward direction of the recreational vehicle, a first protrusion projecting from the front side of said body, a second protrusion projecting from the rear side of said body, one of said front protrusion and said rear protrusion being moveably connected to said first suspension element of the vehicle, the other of said front protrusion and said rear protrusion moveably connected to a portion of a steering system of the vehicle, and said elongated body being adapted to be connected to a ground-engaging element of the vehicle.
- 15. The vehicle of claim 14, wherein the suspension system further comprises:
a second suspension element pivotally connected to the vehicle; and wherein said elongated body further comprises a third protrusion projecting from the same side of said elongated body as the one of said first protrusion and second protrusion connected to said first suspension element.
- 16. The vehicle of claim 15 wherein said protrusions are integral with said support; and said support is an aluminum extrusion having a direction of extrusion perpendicular to a forward direction of travel of the vehicle.
- 17. The vehicle of claim 16, wherein the one of said first protrusion and said second protrusion connected to a portion of a steering system of the vehicle is located at an intermediate position between the other of said first protrusion and said second protrusion connected to the first suspension element of the vehicle and said third protrusion.
- 18. The vehicle of claim 17, wherein the vehicle is a snowmobile and said ground engaging element is a ski.
- 19. The vehicle of claim 15, wherein the support has an axis of rotation defined by a line which passes through the one of said first protrusion and said second protrusion connected to the first suspension element and said third protrusion.
- 20. The vehicle of claim 19, where in said axis is 10° to 30° form vertical.
- 21. The vehicle of claim 20, wherein said axis 15° to 25° from vertical.
- 22. The vehicle of claim 21, wherein said axis is 20° from vertical.
- 23. A suspension system for a vehicle comprising:
a bar having a first end, a middle portion, and a second end; a first elongated cylindrical body pivotally connected to the vehicle; a first pivot block rotatably and slidingly disposed on said first body, said first pivot block having an aperture receiving said first end of said bar; a second elongated cylindrical body pivotally connected to the vehicle; and a second pivot block rotatably and slidingly disposed on said second body, said second pivot block having an aperture receiving said second end of said bar.
- 24. The vehicle of claim 23, wherein said middle portion of said bar is rotatably attached to the vehicle.
- 25. The vehicle of claim 23 wherein vertical movement of one of said first cylindrical body and said second cylindrical body causes a force to be transferred to the other of said first cylindrical body and said second cylindrical body via said bar.
- 26. The vehicle of claim 24, wherein the first cylindrical body is a portion of a first A-arm and said second cylindrical body is a portion of a second A-arm, whereby said first A-arm and said second A-arm are located on opposite sides of the vehicle.
- 27. The vehicle of claim 26, wherein the vehicle is a snowmobile.
