In a freezer system for storing and dispensing one or more frozen food products, said system comprising means for maintaining said frozen food products at a frozen temperature, and transport means for moving frozen food product is preselected amounts between a loading location and a dispensing location, wherein the improvement comprises:
- (a) container means for storing a predetermined portion of food;
- (b) access means located at said loading location to permit uncovering, filling, and recovering said container means; and
- (c) dispensing means located at said dispensing location for uncovering, emptying, and recovering said container means;
- wherein said container means remains completely closed between said loading and dispensing locations, and is only uncovered when food is dispensed from said container at said dispensing location.
- 2. A system according to claim 1, wherein said container means is supported by said transport means in an upright position at said loading location and an inverted position at said dispensing location, and said transport means includes means for inverting said filled, covered upright container means as said container means moves on said transport means from said loading location to said dispensing location.
- 3. A system according to claim 2, further comprising means for returning said inverted container means to its upright position as said container means moves on said transport means from said dispensing location to said loading location.
- 4. In a freezer system for storing at a freezing temperature and selectively dispensing any one of a plurality of different frozen food products, said system comprising:
- (a) refrigeration means for maintaining said frozen food products at said freezing temperature;
- (b) a plurality of containers, each including at least one compartment for storing a predetermined amount of one of said food products;
- (c) access means to said refrigeration means located at said loading location to permit filling of each of said containers;
- (d) dispensing means, located at a dispensing location, for emptying each of said containers;
- (e) transport means for moving each of said frozen food products in preselected amounts between said loading location and said dispensing location; and
- means for identifying each of said containers as to the contents of said compartment so that a selected one of said foods contained in a particular compartment can be automatically moved to and dispensed at said dispensing location.
- 5. A system according to claim 4, wherein said means for identifying each of said containers includes indexing means coupled to said transport means for determining which of said containers is disposed in the dispensing location, said indexing means including sensor means positioned at said dispensing location for sensing when each of said containers and which of said containers moves into said dispensing location.
- 6. A system according to claim 4, wherein each of said containers includes a plurality of said compartments, each for storing a preselected amount of a food product, said dispensing means includes means for emptying each of said compartments of a container at said dispensing location one compartment at a time; and said means for identifying each of said containers as to the contents of said container also includes means for determining which of said compartments of a container have been emptied.
- 7. A system according to claim 4, wherein (i) said means for identifying each of said containers includes first indexing means, coupled to said transport means, for determining which of said containers is disposed in the dispensing location, said first indexing means including first sensor means, positioned at said dispensing location, for sensing when and which of said containers moves into said dispensing location; and (ii) said means for determining which of said compartments of a container positioned at said dispensing location have been emptied includes second indexing means, coupled to said dispensing means, for indicating which of said compartments disposed in said dispensing location have been emptied, said second indexing means including second sensor means, for sensing when said which of said compartments have been emptied.
