Claims
- 1. A composition comprising at least two components:
- (A) a polyether alcohol of the formula ##STR16## wherein in formula (A-1), R is hydrogen or a hydrocarbyl group of 1 to about 30 carbon atoms; R.sup.1 is hydrogen or a hydrocarbyl group of 1 to 5 carbon atoms or mixtures thereof provided that no mor than 10 mole % of R.sup.1 is hydrogen; and x is a number from about 4 to about 40.
- (B) a hydrocarbylphenol having 1-3 hydrocarbyl groups such that the total weight average molecular weight of the hydrocarbyl groups is about 250 to about 6000 wherein the weight ratio of the polyether alcohol to the hydrocarbylphenol is about 3:1 to about 1:20.
- 2. The composition of claim 1 wherein in formula (A-1), R is a hydrocarbyl group of about 10 to about 20 carbon atoms.
- 3. The composition of claim 1 wherein in formula (A-1), R.sup.1 is methyl, R is a hydrocarbyl group of about 12 to about 18 carbon atoms and x is a number from about 10 to about 20.
- 4. The composition of claim 1 wherein in formula (A-1), R is nonylphenyl.
- 5. The composition of claim 1 wherein component (B) is represented by the formula ##STR17## wherein in formula (B-1), R.sup.2 is a hydrocarbyl group; and y is 1 to 3; provided that if y is 1, R.sup.2 has a molecular weight of about 500 to about 1500; and if y is 2 or 3, then the total molecular weight of all R.sup.2 groups is about 500 to about 1500.
- 6. The composition of claim 5 wherein y is 1 and R.sup.2 is derived from a polyisobutene, said polyisobutene having at least one olefin end group.
- 7. The composition of claim 6 wherein at least 80% of the olefin end groups are of vinylidene structure.
- 8. A concentrate comprising about 10% to about 90% by weight of an organic diluent and the composition of claim 1.
- 9. The composition of claim 1 further comprising (C) a nitrogen-containing dispersant.
- 10. The composition of claim 1 wherein component (C) is selected from the group consisting of hydrocarbyl amines, acylated nitrogen-containing compounds, polyetheramines and mixtures thereof.
- 11. The composition of claim 10 wherein component (C) comprises at least one polybutene amine.
- 12. The composition of claim 11 wherein component (C) comprises a mixture of said polybutene amine and said acylated nitrogen-containing compound.
- 13. The composition of claim 10 wherein the number average molecular weight of said hydrocarbyl amine ranges from about 500 to 2000; the number average molecular weight of said acylated nitrogen-containing compound ranges from about 500 to about 20,000; and the number average molecular weight of said polyetheramine ranges from about 500 to about 3000.
- 14. A composition prepared by combining the ingredients of claim 1.
- 15. A composition prepared by combining the ingredients of claim 9.
- 16. A fuel composition comprising:
- (I) a major portion of a liquid fuel boiling in the gasoline boiling range; and
- (II) an intake valve deposit reducing amount of about 50 ppm to about 800 ppm based on the weight of the fuel of an additive composition, said additive composition comprising:
- (A) a polyether alcohol of the formula ##STR18## wherein in formula (A-1), R is hydrogen or a hydrocarbyl group of 1 to about 30 carbon atoms; R.sup.1 is hydrogen or a hydrocarbyl group of 1 to 5 carbon atoms or mixtures thereof provided that no more than 10 mole % of R.sup.1 is hydrogen, and said polyether alcohol is soluble in gasoline; and x is a number from about 4 to about 40; and
- (B) a hydrocarbylphenol having 1-3 hydrocarbyl groups such that the total weight average molecular weight of the hydrocarbyl groups is about 250 to about 6000 wherein the weight ratio of the polyether alcohol to the hydrocarbylphenol is about 3:1 to about 1:20.
- 17. A composition prepared by combining the ingredients of claim 16.
- 18. The composition of claim 16 wherein said liquid fuel is an oxygenated fuel which comprises about 5% to about 20% of one or more oxygen-containing molecules.
- 19. The composition of claim 16 wherein said liquid fuel is an oxygenated fuel which comprises about 1% to about 5% of one or more oxygen containing molecules.
- 20. A method for fueling an internal combustion engine, comprising fueling said engine with the fuel composition of claim 16.
- 21. The composition of claim 16 further comprising II(C) a nitrogen-containing dispersant.
- 22. The composition of claim 21 wherein component II(C) is present at a level of about 10 to about 200 PPM based on the weight of the liquid fuel.
- 23. A method fueling an internal combustion engine, comprising fueling said engine with the fuel composition of claim 21.
- 24. A composition prepared by combining the ingredients of claim 21.
