Claims
- 1. A fuel cell system (1) having a first stage (2) and a second stage (4), each of the two stages (2 and 4) having at least one fuel cell block (10; 12; 14 and 16), an operating-gas feed (24a; 24b and 30a; 30b) and an operating-gas discharge (26a; 26b and 32a; 32b), the operating-gas discharge (26a, 26b) of the first stage (2) being connected to the operating-gas feed (30a, 30b) of the second stage (4), and the first stage (2) having a first number of fuel cells and the second stage (4) having a second number of fuel cells, and the first number being at least twice the second number.
- 2. The fuel cell system (1) as claimed in claim 1, having an additional third stage (6), which has at least one fuel cell block (18), an operating-gas feed (36a, 36b) and an operating-gas discharge (38a, 38b), the operating-gas discharge (32a, 32b) of the second stage (4) being connected to the operating-gas feed (36a, 36b) of the third stage (6), and the number of fuel cells in the second stage (4) being at least twice the number of fuel cells in the third stage (6).
- 3. The fuel cell system (1) as claimed in claim 1 or 2, in which the stages (2, 4, 6) comprise the same type of fuel cell blocks (10, 12, 14, 16, 18).
- 4. The fuel cell system (1) as claimed in one of the preceding claims, having an end stage (8), which has an operating-gas feed (42a, 42b) which is connected to an operating-gas discharge (38a, 38b) of the preceding stage (6) and which has a further operating-gas feed which is connected to an operating-gas feed (24a, 24b) of a preceding stage.
- 5. The fuel cell system (1) as claimed in claim 4, in which the end stage (8) comprises at least two fuel cell blocks (20, 22), which each have an operating-gas feed (44a, 44b) which is connected to an operating-gas discharge (38a, 38b) of the preceding stage (6) and which have a further operating-gas feed which is connected to an operating-gas feed (24a, 24b) of a preceding stage.
- 6. The fuel cell system (1) as claimed in one of the preceding claims, in which the number of fuel cells in one stage (4 or 6), compared to the number of fuel cells in a preceding stage (2 or 4), is from 25% to 40%, in particular 30% to 35%, of the number of fuel cells in the preceding stage (2 or 4).
- 7. The fuel cell system (1) as claimed in one of the preceding claims, in which the fuel cell blocks (10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22) are designed for operation with pure oxygen (O2) and pure hydrogen (H2).
- 8. The fuel cell system (1) as claimed in one of the preceding claims, in which water separators (28a, 28b, 34a, 34b, 40a, 40b) are arranged between the stages (2, 4, 6, 8).
- 9. The fuel cell system (1) as claimed in one of the preceding claims, in which a fuel cell block (20, 22) of the last stage (8) is designed as a residual-gas disposal block.
