Claims
- 1. A fuel composition comprising a major amount of hydrocarbons boiling in the gasoline or diesel range and an effective detergent amount of a hydroxyalkyl-substituted amine which is the reaction product of:(a) a polyolefin epaxide derived from a polyisobutene having an average molecular weight of about 900 to 2,500 and containing at least 70% of a methylvinylidene Isomer; and (b) An amine having the formula: wherein R1 and R2 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and hydrocarbyl of 1 to about 20 carbon atoms and, when taken together, R1 and R2 may form one or more 5- or 6-membered rings containing up to about 20 carbon atoms.
- 2. The composition according to claim 1, wherein said composition contains about 30 to 2000 weight ppm of the hydroxyalkyl-substituted amine.
- 3. The composition according to claim 1, wherein said composition contains about 100 to 500 weight ppm of the hydroxyalkyl-substituted amine.
- 4. The composition according to claim 1, wherein R1 and R2 are the same or different and are selected from hydrocarbyl groups having 1 to about 10 carbon atoms.
- 5. The composition according to claim 4, wherein R1 and R2 are independently selected from the group consisting of methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, pentyl, and hexyl.
- 6. The composition according to claim 5, wherein R1 and R2 are methyl, ethyl or propyl.
- 7. The composition according to claim 1, wherein R1 is hydrogen and R2 is a hydrocarbyl group having 1 to about 10 carbon atoms.
- 8. The composition according to claim 7, wherein R2 is methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, pentyl, hexyl, or octyl.
- 9. The composition according to claim 8, wherein R2 is methyl, ethyl or propyl.
- 10. The composition according to claim 1, wherein R1 and R2 are hydrogen.
- 11. The fuel composition according to claim 1, wherein the fuel composition further contains a fuel soluble, nonvolatile carrier oil.
- 12. The fuel composition according to claim 11, wherein the fuel soluble, nonvolatile carrier oil is a poly(oxyalkylene) alcohol, glycol or polyol.
