Claims
- 1. In a control valve arrangement comprising two separate valve means, and solenoid means operatively associated with said valve means for causing said valve means to be in a first condition thereof upon said solenoid means being energized and for causing said valve means to be in a second condition thereof upon said solenoid means being deenergized, the improvement wherein said solenoid means comprises a single electrical coil having an opening passing centrally therethrough and an internal armature means for operating one of said two valve means by having a portion thereof movably disposed in said opening of said coil and an external armature means for operating the other of said two valve means, said external armature means being entirely external to said coil and in spaced offset relation to said internal armature means, said internal armature means and said external armature means each being adapted to be moved to a certain position thereof only when the flux created by said coil being energized is imposed thereon.
- 2. A control arrangement as set forth in claim 1 wherein each valve means comprises a valve seat and a movable valve member for opening and closing said valve seat, said internal armature means and said external armature means being respectively operatively associated with said valve means, said single electrical coil causing said valve members to move to open positions thereof relative to their respective valve seats when said coil is energized.
- 3. In a method of making a control valve arrangement that comprises two separate valve means and solenoid means operatively associated with said valve means for causing said valve means to be in a first condition thereof upon said solenoid means being energized and for causing said valve means to be in a second condition thereof upon said solenoid means being deenergized, the improvement comprising the steps of forming said solenoid means to comprise a single electrical coil having an opening passing centrally therethrough and an internal armature means for operating one of said two valve means by having a portion thereof movably disposed in said opening of said coil and an external armature means for operating the other of said two valve means, forming said external armature means to be entirely external to said coil and in spaced offset relation to said internal armature means, and forming said internal armature means and said external armature means to each be adapted to be moved to a certain position thereof only when the flux created by said coil being energized is imposed thereon.
- 4. A method of making a control arrangement as set forth in claim 3 and including the steps of forming each valve means to comprise a valve seat and a movable valve member for opening and closing said valve seat, and operatively associating said internal armature means and said external armature means with said valve members so that said single electrical coil will cause said valve members to move to open positions thereof relative to their respective valve seats when said coil is energized.
- 5. A control valve arrangement as set forth in claim 2 wherein said solenoid means comprises an internal pole means disposed in said opening of said coil for said portion of said internal armature means and an external pole means for said external pole means, said external pole means being entirely external to said single coil and spaced therefrom.
- 6. A control valve arrangement as set forth in claim 5 wherein each pole means is generally cup-shaped so as to have a generally closed end means and a generally open end means that receives part of its respective armature means therein.
- 7. A control valve arrangement as set forth in claim 6 wherein said solenoid means comprises compression spring means disposed in said pole means between said closed end means thereof and said armature means thereof to tend to move said armature means so as to cause said valve means to tend to move to closed positions thereof relative to their respective valve seats when said coil is deenergized.
- 8. A method of making a control valve arrangement as set forth in claim 4 and including the steps of forming said solenoid means to comprise an internal pole means disposed in said opening of said coil for said portion of said internal armature means and an external pole means for said external pole means, and forming said external pole means to be entirely external to said single coil and spaced therefrom.
- 9. A method of making a control valve arrangement as set forth in claim 8 and including the step of forming each pole means to be generally cup-shaped so as to have a generally closed end means and a generally open end means that receives part of its respective armature means therein.
- 10. A method of making a control valve arrangement as set forth in claim 9 and including the step of forming said solenoid means to comprise compression spring means disposed in said pole means between said closed end means thereof and said armature means thereof to tend to move said armature means so as to cause said valve means to tend to move to closed positions thereof relative to their respective valve seats when said coil is deenergized.
