Claims
- 1. A fuel processor assembly comprised of a means for supplying a high voltage electrical discharge within said fuel processor, a first catalytic body disposed within said fuel processor, and a second catalytic body disposed within said fuel processor, wherein said first catalytic body and said second catalytic body have different shapes.
- 2. The fuel processor assembly as recited in claim 1, wherein said fuel process assembly is comprised of a precombustor.
- 3. The fuel processor assembly as recited in claim 2, wherein said high voltage electrical discharge is furnished to said precombustor.
- 4. The fuel processor assembly as recited in claim 3, wherein said high voltage electrical discharge has a voltage of at least 1,000 volts.
- 5. The fuel processor assembly as recited in claim 4, wherein said high voltage electrical discharge is in the form of a pulse with a duration of from about 1 to about 50 milliseconds.
- 6. The fuel processor assembly as recited in claim 4, wherein each of said first catalytic body and said second catalytic body has a porosity of from about 20 to about 80 percent.
- 7. The fuel processor assembly as recited in claim 6, wherein each of said first catalytic body and said second catalytic body is comprised of catalyst and ceramic material.
- 8. The fuel processor assembly as recited in claim 7, wherein each of said first catalytic body and said second catalytic body is comprised of from about 1 to about 100 grams of said catalyst per cubic foot of said ceramic material.
- 9. The fuel processor assembly as recited in claim 8, further comprising a spark plug partially disposed in said precombustor.
- 10. The fuel processor assembly as recited in claim 1, further comprising means for providing gas to said fuel processor assembly.
- 11. The fuel processor assembly as recited in claim 10, wherein said means for providing gas to said fuel processor assembly is a compressor.
- 12. The fuel processor assembly as recited in claim 11, wherein said compressor is a guided rotor compressor.
- 13. The fuel cell assembly as recited in claim 1, further comprising means for purifying hydrogen gas.
- 14. The fuel cell assembly as recited in claim 1, further comprising means for desulfurizing gas.
- 15. The fuel cell assembly as recited in claim 14, wherein said means for desulfurizing gas is comprised of zinc oxide.
- 16. The fuel cell assembly as recited in claim 1, wherein said high voltage electrical discharge has a voltage in excess of 10,000 volts.
- 17. The fuel cell assembly as recited in claim 5, wherein said precombustor is adapted to raise the temperature of gas disposed within it from ambient temperature to a temperature in excess of 600 degrees Celsius in a period of less than about 10 seconds.
- 18. The fuel cell assembly as recited in claim 1, further comprising means for adjusting the water content of hydrogen.
- 19. The fuel cell assembly as recited in claim 1, further comprising a fuel cell.
- 20. The fuel cell assembly as recited in claim 19, wherein said fuel cell is a proton exchange membrane fuel cell.
