Claims
- 1. An apparatus for supplying an air and fuel particle mixture to a means for using the mixture comprising: a housing having a passage adapted to carry an air and fuel particle mixture to the means for using the mixture, first means for introducing particles of fuel into the passage, said particles of fuel being mixed with air in said passage, said first means having a member surrounding a chamber accommodating liquid fuel and ultrasonic vibration means mounted on the member to vibrate the member and liquid fuel therein, said member having at least one orifice open to the chamber through which particles of fuel are introduced into the passage, said member of the first means is a cup-shaped member having a first wall and a second wall surrounding a chamber for accommodating liquid fuel, said orifice being located in said first wall, said ultrasonic vibration means including a collar mounted on the second wall operable to vibrate the liquid fuel in the chamber and the member, a cap surrounding the collar, said cap having an orifice aligned with the orifice of the bottom wall whereby, when the ultrasonic vibrating means is operated, liquid fuel is dispensed through the orifices of the bottom wall and the cap as small particles of fuel into the passage, and second means mounted on the housing and located in the passage forming a venturi throat, said air and particles of fuel flow through the venturi throat to the means for using the mixture.
- 2. An apparatus for supplying an air and fuel particle mixture to a means for using the mixture comprising: a housing having a passage adapted to carry an air and fuel particle mixture to the means for using the mixture, first means for introducing particles of fuel into the passage, said particles of fuel being mixed with air in said passage, said first means having a member surrounding a chamber accommodating liquid fuel and ultrasonic vibration means mounted on the member to vibrate the member and liquid fuel therein, said member having at least one orifice open to the chamber through which particles of fuel are introduced into the passage, and second means mounted on the housing and located in the passage forming a venturi throat, said air and particles of fuel flow through the venturi throat to the means for using the mixture, said second means forming the venturi throat comprises a first side wall secured to the inside of a first portion of the housing, a second side wall secured to the inside of a second portion of the housing, said first and second side walls having first and second convex curved surfaces respectively, a divider member located between said side walls, said divider member having third and fourth outside convex surfaces facing the convex curved surfaces of the side walls, said first surface being spaced from the third surface to form a first venturi throat and said second surface being spaced from the fourth surface to form a second venturi throat and control means to vary the length of said second venturi throat, said air and particles of fuel flow through said first and second venturi throats to the means for using the mixture.
- 3. An apparatus for supplying an air and fuel particle mixture to a means for using the mixture comprising: a housing having a passage adapted to carry an air and fuel particle mixture to the means for using the mixture, first means for introducing particles of fuel into the passage, said particles of fuel being mixed with air in said passage, said first means having a member surrounding a chamber accommodating liquid fuel and ultrasonic vibration means mounted on the member to vibrate the member and liquid fuel therein, said member having at least one orifice open to the chamber through which particles of fuel are introduced into the passage, first means includes a body having a passage for carrying liquid fuel to the chamber of said member, said member being mounted on the body, and cover means surrounding the ultrasonic means, said cover means having an opening aligned with the orifice in said member and being attached to the body and engageable with the member to hold the member on the body, and second means mounted on the housing and located in the passage forming a venturi throat, said air and particles of fuel flow through the venturi throat to the means for using the mixture.
- 4. An apparatus for supplying an air and fuel particle mixture to a means for using the mixture comprising: a housing having a passage adapted to carry an air and fuel particle mixture to the means for using the mixture, first means for introducing particles of fuel into the passage, said particles of fuel being mixed with air in said passage, said first means having a member surrounding a chamber accommodating liquid fuel and ultrasonic vibration means mounted on the member to vibrate the member and liquid fuel therein, said member having at least one orifice open to the chamber through which particles of fuel are introduced into the passage, and second means mounted on the housing and located in the passage forming a venturi throat, said air and particles of fuel flow through the venturi throat to the means for using the mixture, said second means includes means forming a first venturi throat and a second venturi throat, said first venturi throat being unobstructed and smaller than said second venturi throat, said first and second venturi throats receiving the air and fuel particle mixture and directing the mixture to means for using the mixture, and control means for controlling the flow of air and fuel mixture only through said second venturi throat, said first venturi throat remaining open at all times.
- 5. An apparatus for supplying an air and fuel particle mixture to a means for using the mixture comprising: a housing having a passage adapted to carry an air and fuel particle mixture to the means for using the mixture, first means for introducing particles of fuel into the passage, said particles of fuel being mixed with air in said passage, said first means having a member surrounding a chamber accommodating liquid fuel and ultrasonic vibration means mounted on the member to vibrate the member and liquid fuel therein, said member having at least one orifice open to the chamber through which particles of fuel are introduced into the passage, and second means mounted on the housing and located in the passage forming a venturi throat, said air and particles of fuel flow through the venturi throat to the means for using the mixture, said member of the first means is a cup-shaped member having a bottom wall and a side wall surrounding a chamber for accommodating liquid fuel, said orifice being located in said bottom wall, said ultrasonic vibration means including a collar mounted on the side wall operable to vibrate the liquid fuel in the chamber and the member whereby the liquid fuel is dispensed through the orifice as small particles of fuel to the passage, the second means includes means forming a first venturi throat and a second venturi throat, said first venturi throat being unobstructed and smaller than said second venturi throat, said first and second venturi throats receiving the air and fuel particle mixture and directing the mixture to means for using the mixture, and control means for controlling the flow of air and fuel mixture only through said second venturi throat, said first venturi throat remaining open at all times.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein: the control means to vary the length of the second venturi throat comprises a plate movably mounted on the housing for movement generally along the length of said divider member and second side wall.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein: the first venturi throat has a width smaller than the width of the second venturi throat.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein: the first and second side walls and the divider member are elongated linear members located in parallel relation relative to each other.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 8 wherein: the first venturi throat has an elongated first rectangular shape and the second venturi throat has an elongated second rectangular shape.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 9 wherein: the first rectangular shape has a width smaller than the width of the second rectangular shape.
- 11. The apparatus of claim 10 wherein: the control means to vary the length of the second venturi throat is a movable member operable to change the length of the second rectangular shape of the second venturi throat.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein: the collar is a piezoelectric member and means to apply high voltage to said piezoelectric member whereby the cup-shaped member vibrates at a high frequency.
- 13. The apparatus of claim 4 wherein: the first venturi throat has a width smaller than the width of the second venturi throat.
- 14. The apparatus of claim 4 wherein: the first venturi throat has an elongated first rectangular shape and a second venturi throat has an elongated second rectangular shape.
- 15. The apparatus of claim 4 wherein: the second means includes a first side wall secured to a first portion of the housing, a second side wall secured to a second portion of the housing, said first and second side walls having first and second convex curved surfaces, respectively, a divider member located between said side walls, said divider member having third and fourth outside convex surfaces facing the convex surfaces of the side walls, said first surface being spaced from the third surface to form a first venturi throat, said second surface being shaped from the fourth surface to form a second venturi throat.
- 16. The apparatus of claim 15 wherein: the first and second side walls and divider are elongated, linear members located in parallel relation to each other.
- 17. The apparatus of claim 5 including: cover means surrounding the ultrasonic vibration means, said cover means having an opening aligned with the orifice in said member.
- 18. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein: the first means includes a body having a passage for carrying liquid fuel to the chamber of said member, said member being mounted on the body, and cover means surrounding the ultrasonic means, said cover means having an opening aligned with the orifice in said member and being attached to the body and engageable with the member to hold the member on the body.
